The best indian for miles. Food doesn't swim in ghee live some places.
Spice Lounge – BlackburnRecently dined at the pub with my mum and to be honest it was with mixed results. We started of with the crab cake and the crumpet with curb and beetroot. What can i say, you couldn't fault it, well presented, seasoned beautifully. great service. Then followed the mains. it was as though the trumpets were muffled instead of the usual fanfare. The potato pancakes were delicious, the steak pudding though was a let down. I had the pudding a month ago, hence i went for the second helping. Unfortunately even though it was cooked beautifully with the caremalised carrots and smooth mash it was let down with the fact that there must have been about 70% suet pudding. with the remaining 30% in kidneys. gutted. The cauliflower cheese was tip top aswell, except that i felt the cauliflower was a little too overcooked and soft. It'll still take a nation to hold me back though.
Clog and Billycock – BlackburnHidden away under the Woodlands pub, this gem of a restaurant seems yet to be discovered by most. Since the basement under the pub was converted, it has been a tapas restaurant and a fine dining eatery, but was closed for a while before opening as a Caribbean restaurant before Christmas. Arriving just before 8pm on a Tuesday evening, my party of 9 had booked our table, not knowing how busy the place might be. Apart from another couple who arrived later, we were the only customers. We had pre-ordered our food, meaning it was ready just after we sat down at our table. Some of us opted for spicy chicken wings, a couple chose the meat patty and one went for the king prawns. All smelled fantastic and there was nothing left on any of the plates. For main course, two of us opted for a platter to share for our main course, priced at £30. This might seem pricey, but when you consider you each get 3 chicken wings, a huge fried king prawn, a Caribbean dumpling, corn on the cob, a mixed Caribbean kebab, fried plantain and fish of the day and a curry dish to share, as well as black bean salad and coleslaw, it represents great value for money for those who like to try a bit of everything, and we struggled to finish the meal. The chef came out of the kitchen to talk us through our platter, and we were greeted not with a Caribbean chef as we may have expected, but a head chef with a strong Manchester accent. One of our group doesn't like spicy food and she chose the macaroni cheese pie, not really knowing what to expect. It was served with new potatoes and went down very well. Most of the others had gone for the full size version of something we had on our platter, and again everyone was impressed with the freshness, quality and amount of food. The wine was also very reasonably priced, at just under £13 for the house wines, which had a nice flavour and was easy to drink. My one very small criticism would be that because our platter was so plentiful, it could have been split up so we had some of it when the others got their starters. We mentioned this to the chef and he was happy to take our comments on board. We were all too full for desserts by the end but all had coffee to finish off, vowing to return soon. Verdict A great, different style restaurant. A real bonus for the town that deserves to stay. food 9 drink 9 service 9 atmosphere 7 value 8
Calypso Restaurant – BlackburnI visited the Shajan very recently and although the food was outstanding. The experience was ruined by the terrible attitude of the waiters, they were rude and dismissive. I'm not sure if there was something going on at the restaurant but I will not be going back.
Shajan – BlackburnGreat restaurant with helpful staff and top notch food.
Shajan – Blackburndon't bother going to this restaurant, i went with my parents a month ago, we all ended up with food poisoning from that meal. i have never felt so out of place and uncomfortable in a restaurant as i did here, i have never been asked for my name when i place a food order and as for the "patrons" of the establishment, the green welly brigade, all airs and graces and not a penny to rub together, awful place, awful food and awful atmosphere, beautiful settign though. shame it had to be like that.
Clog and Billycock – BlackburnMy partner and I took my Mum for a meal on Sat. 21st March 2009 for Mothers Day and what a great time was had by all. Dave, the chef and owner, came for a chat and even brought our food to the table so that he could explain what the food was on the Platter for 2 which we had ordered. Mum had the Red Snapper fish which she thoroughly enjoyed and she also tried some of the food on our platter. I would recommend this Restaurant as the food, the dining area, ambience and the staff where all excellent.
Calypso Restaurant – BlackburnMe and my family ate here for mothers day, the food and service were great, the wine was lovely too…only problem was that we couldn’t decide what to eat as everything on the menu looked appetizing…try it you and I am sure you will enjoy it as much as we did!!
Guide Village Restaurant – BlackburnHad a gourmet overnight stay here recently. From the minute we arrived everything was just perfect. The room was great with a good attention to detail - all those little things that make you go Ooohh! The 5 course meal was amazing, from the champagne and canapes to begin to the coffee & petite fours to end in front of a real fire. We splashed out on the wine package which consisted of 4 glasses to compliment each course - not cheap at £37.50 a head but they were stunning and well worth the extra indulgence!!! I'm saving up for my return.
Northcote – BlackburnHi.... ladies and gentlemen now i have really seen the flower blossom....... what a great place, great food, great people, great service...overall just so so GREAT!!! Keep it up Balti house....x
Balti House – BlackburnI am a regular at the clog and was very exited to see they had a new menu. I had Crab cake to start which was excellent, my wife had the onion tart which looked brilliant too. Then we had 2 deviled chicken - nice but maybe slightly overcooked. No room for desserts, but the ones on the table next to us looked delicious. It gets insanely busy in the evening so if you want to avoid an hour wait for a table i suggest you go early rather than later.
Clog and Billycock – BlackburnGood produce and above average pub food. Nicely furnished and staff are pleasant. Need more structure front of house and better timing. Would return.
Clog and Billycock – BlackburnGreat location, relaxed atmosphere, good wine and a delicious rather large portion of locally sourced fish pie, what more could a girl want! Would definitely return for dinner again.

Calypso Restaurant – Blackburnvisited the Welcome Restaurant Food okay felt pressurised all through the meal being watched by three waitresses.Only part of bill written in English is the amount, order written in Chinese ,would be helpful if both languages were used.Unable to check bill properly! Won't visit again or recommend the place.
Welcome Restaurant – Blackburnhaven't been for a few months as the atmosphere since the owner left has been awful, the food was dire and its a shame the thriving little business was slowly being driven into the ground its heart left with ian and it turned into a business instead of a home from home that it was, bring it back up to what it was and we may just come back.
Windmill Hotel – BlackburnChoose from a selection of mains plus a tea/coffee or dispensed soft drink, £13.95. Available Monday to Friday 12pm-2pm.
