Excellent food and service
The Inn At Rhiwderin – NewportWe booked a table for Sunday Lunch as we heard that there were new chefs producing a more homely menu. We weren't disappointed. I had the 7 hour roast Beef Brisket which came with a Yorkshire Pudding, Roast Potatoes a ball of stuffing, roasted carrot and parsnip. My wife had the Lamb Shank with the same root-veg and we shared a dish of veg that included swede, broccoli and red cabbage. The meat was tender, the roasties were banging and everything was hot on arrival. The staff were all very welcoming, friendly and enthusiastic and we were well served with a decent amount of mint and horseradish sauce. We stuck to a single course although the starters did sound tempting and the desserts looked good as they passed. Not the cheapest in the area although the quality of food and service did make it good value. Our wine was properly chilled and came with an ice bucket. I know this Inn is under relatively-new ownership and this was our first visit for lunch. We have already booked a Saturday lunch table for a couple of weeks time. Well worth a visit and I couldn't find fault.
The Inn At Rhiwderin – NewportLovely Sunday lunch, no major problems, nice hot meal. Ordered cauliflower cheese but not a cheesy sauce, edible but lacked taste. Seasonal side vegetables not really a serving for two more like a single portion, beer price high, more like Cardiff prices not local pub. On a positive note young staff very polite and helpful. Ordered cheese board and on querying what one of the Welsh cheeses were the waitress took the time to take a picture on her phone, went to kitchen and returned with answer. Many would have just said “did not know”. Used to eat and drink here regularly prior to Covid when it was run by previous owner. Much improved cosmetically, just a few tweaks to bring it up to 10/10.
The Inn At Rhiwderin – NewportExcellent meal at the Last Inn. Food was delicious, service was great - very friendly and cheerful. Lovely feel to the place. Definitely would go back.
The Last Inn – NewportGood friendly service. Plenty of space. Good selection of dishes. Pork belly was excellent and plentiful.
The Last Inn – NewportFirstly let me say, that on previous visits the Rhiwderin Inn scored 4 or 5 stars. It was our go to pub for a special Sunday lunch. However, our last visit, Sunday 31/10/21 was terrible. The 45 min wait for service was ok, as we were expecting a lovely meal and they were busy. But when the meal arrived, it was cold. The cauliflower cheese, cold. The roast potatoes cold (Which made them as tough as old boots) The veg in both plates were luke warm, but the dishes they were served in was hotter. The gravy was tasty, but luke warm. The Yorkshire pudding, not only cold but soggy. The meat was cold, but that was ok, as it did have a lot of flavour. What I did notice, that on previous occasions we would be asked if we were enjoying the meal, and it's always a pleasure to say Yes, it's great. This time, we were not asked at all. Maybe, because we had left so much of the meal, they could tell, we didn't enjoy it. What surprises me, is that the chef would allow the meals to leave his kitchen at this standard. The front of house staff, were polite as always.
The Inn At Rhiwderin – NewportLovely Sunday lunch I chose lamb and it was a generous serving with a good variety of veg and plenty of gravy food was hot when served and the staff were very helpful and polite would take my mum but there are no disable toilets.
The Inn At Rhiwderin – NewportOn arrival we were shown to the top end of restaurant. Sat by dirty window, and doors, and quite cold. Bright lights, and absolutely no atmosphere what so ever. Staff were pleasant enough, but after the 4th tine of being asked if everything was OK,it just felt like over kill. The meal itself was ok. ( asked for medium rare steak, got medium, but still a decent meal ). Couple who had been waiting for their order to be taken and arrived before us got a tad annoyed that 2 tables were served before them. Sorry but absolutely no atmosphere, and for a Friday night the place was empty. Such a shame. On a plus... There was a singer and he was very good.
The Last Inn – NewportVery disappointed. Lots of cobwebs around the table. We had afternoon tea and the cakes seemed like they had been defrosted, still very cold. Very little tea provided. Expensive.
The Last Inn – NewportThe Last Inn never disappoints. Fabulous young staff team, great atmosphere, lovely decor. Oh and the food - good pub food at a good price. What’s not to like? (But where’s the pork belly with black pudding stuffing?)
The Last Inn – NewportLove the new menu. Popped in last week and cannot fault the food or service
The Last Inn – NewportBooked for Sunday lunch with two of our friends. The restaurant was full so there was a bit of a wait for the food but this added to the atmosphere. The food was excellent and we all enjoyed it. It’s the second time I’ve been and would recommend it will definitely be back.
The Last Inn – Newporthad a lovely family meal - food and service was excellent but was really embarrassed when the manager chased us over the car park to say we have not left enough cash ? He then carried on to count the cash in front of us only to realise there was £150 the correct amount - rather embarrassing when you have family with you and other people were staring at us like we were criminals - shame as it was a lovely night as well.
The Last Inn – NewportFood fab, had Sunday lunch. Service needs to improve though. I had my lunch and my friend had to wait over 10mins for her meal as the order was taken down incorrectly. I'm sure it will improve. Will go again
The Inn At Rhiwderin – NewportLovely to see the Last Inn full of people again. The food was lovely and the staff were attentive . There were a few items not available on the menu, but this was due to supply issues. Hopefully a one off problem.
The Last Inn – NewportNot over-impressed . I had the chicken supreme with chasseur sauce. The chicken was dry and the sauce tasted like it had come out of a jar. Husband had sirloin steak which he enjoyed. The lighting is too bright to have any sort of ambiance. Not worth the money I’m afraid- a shame as it’s on our doorstep.
