My husband and I visited The Fat Bull Sunday. What a really pleasant experience. Being a decent cook myself it was a lovely treat to sit and enjoy a couple of glasses of wine followed by an excellent meal. We got a really good feel for the place within 5 mins of arriving. The assistant manager was so relaxed and confident in herself we knew the food was going to be great as she promoted several dishes. She was not wrong! Every member of the team was really friendly and looked like they were happy to be there unlike some places you visit. Cannot wait to go again in fact we are going with friends this Sunday. I have told them they won't be disappointed.

Visited with my wife one week after opening-day of this very cute, welcoming and atmospheric restaurant. Superb menu choice with great-value lunch list. High quality food and friendly attentive service. Very tasty steak and ale pie with lovely thin pastry lid and real chips! Equally satisfying mussels main dish. Yummy dessert - basil pannacotta with champagne-marinated strawberries - simply the best! Overall, wonderful value for money with a very reasonably priced wine-list. Don't delay in visiting this little gem!

Been to the Field Fare twice in two months. We were a party of six everyone aside the food was excellent and tasty. We were never kept waiting between courses thanks to the great service of "Becky B". Many thanks we will be calling again.

The wife and I made a special journey to Alghero. It's a destination restaurant just off the first junction of the M65 and near the M61, which makes it very easy to get to. Bar the road, outside its situated in the country with nice views over the countryside from their outside terrace or conservatory. We had a drink in the bar on arrival and then were escorted to our table in the conservatory by a friendly waiter. Starters were an excellent meat balls and a prawn cocktail, both very tasty and well presented. Mains were a cannelloni and seafood linguine. The cannelloni was the best I can remember having and the wife was impressed with hers too. Wines by the glass were good as was the value. We will definitely return, maybe on a nice summer evening to enjoy the terrace.

Two for one deal, mine was in edible (beef in wine)so tough I could have soled my shoes. The bar-manager very kindly did not charge me!!!! Oh yes that's right it was a two for one anyway, who lost out? That will be me,then paid the £10 odd for my husbands but I had no dinner so paid anyway. Definitely feel the service, quality of food is poor.

Just got in from the Zalzala after another excellent meal. We have been to many Indian restaurants in the Chorley/ Bolton area but the food and service are in our opinion the best of them all. The staff are charming and friendly and make you very welcome

Arrived early Saturday evening without making a booking, the staff where very accomodating letting us have a table that was reserved for a later time providing we had enough time to eat (2 hours). The atmosphere was cosy and the staff where very helpful. The food was excellent especially my choice of the fish trio . As we had eaten at the Travellers Rest previously and really enjoyed it we ignored the negative comments posted by some diners and rightly so -wouldnt hesitate to recommend.

This restaurant serves some if not the best food I have had. I would recommend the peri peri chicken stir fry, if any body decides to visit, as its totally mind blowing.

Excellent. Not the cheapest but real value for money. The quality of the food is absolutely brilliant and the staff are very friendly. We have eaten here several times and it is my son's favourite restaurant when he is visiting us from Lincolnshire so nearly always include a meal out when he is staying with us. One thing I would suggest though is to request seating in the conservatory area if you like to eat somewhere quiet as the main body of the restaurant does tend to be a bit on the noisy side. It is always busy, even on week nights but if you wish to dine there at the weekend I would recommend booking to be sure of getting a table.

I am writing this review not as someone who was given an awful service but as someone who was really disappointed not to be given a fantastic service based on it's reputation and prices. Over the last 12 years of our relationship my wife and I have dined several times at The Yew Tree for special and romantic evenings. A few times we have dined for our wedding anniversary and the previous times received a fantastic, attentive and special service which kept us coming back. At the beginning of August we booked our table well in advance and we were pre-advised by a friendly person taking our reservation that there was also a beer festival going on over the weekend. The week before I called to confirm our Saturday reservation understanding that the timeslot would have been at peak-time. Whilst on the phone I also advised it was our wedding anniversary and enquired if the beer festival activities (ie Live Band etc) were not going to mingle with the usual romantic restaurant area. The lady I spoke to sounded very stern and came across a bit abruptly but nonetheless reassured us that the event would be kept separate from the restaurant. When it came to the evening we decided to visit the beer festival event prior to our meal and it was fantastic! Nice ales and music in the sunshine - it was almost a pity to go inside for our meal but were still really looking forward to it based upon our previous visits. Unfortunately, this is where our evening went downhill starting with the fact that it was obvious that they had lost our reservation even though I telephoned the week before to confirm it. Normally on previous visits we were sat in the restaurant area and considering that I gave them 4 weeks notice of our reservation I was surprised to find that we were being sat at the front of the pub area next to the entrance of the front door where everyone else on the other tables were just enjoying drinks - not ideal and obvious that they had lost our reservation, quickly preparing our table with cuterly and placemats. With it being a happy occation we tried to remain positive and we ordered our meal which were two steaks, a ribeye steak to be cooked blue (which I asked if it was possible) for £17.95, a sirloin steak for my wife to be cooked rare for £18.95 and a bottle of wine for around £20. The rib eye arrived medium-rare which didn't 'massively' upset me and I don't tend to complain at restaurants. My wife's sirloin, however, arrived medium to well with hardly any pink colour in it. We normally are not the kind of couple who complain or send food back - once a long time ago I remember eating a steak almost cold just to keep the atmosphere happy. However, again being it our anniversary and the fact that the steak was almost £20 we wanted to raise the problem quickly but without attention. As there were no staff around us being in the pub area my wife had to leave her table and tell someone at the bar that her steak wasn't right - not great really. They took my wife's steak away and so I shared my steak with my wife whilst she waited for hers and at this point we decided as soon as her steak arrived we would finish up, pay and leave to get back outside to the fantastic beer festival. Nicely enough however, the lady who I immediately recognised as the (stern) one I spoke to over the phone was very helpful and straight away dealt with the problem and offered each of us a free glass of wine for our trouble. My wife accepted this and as I already had a large glass already I declined but the nice lady insisted on getting me something free of charge which I thought was really nice. I think the lady either ran the restaurant or was someone very senior in the building as she was very attentive as this point - plus the rest of the staff were wearing pink polo shirt uniforms. Overall, the staff ran rings around us when there was an issue but simply all we wanted was to arrive to be seated in the restaurant, to feel special in the usual romantic atmosphere and to have fantastic food. If this was the first time we dined at the Yew Tree, was told that it was more of a pub/restaurant and the prices were set at those typical of a pub/restaurant then we would have been quite satisfied but still probably avoided it for a wedding anniversary meal. However, paying almost £60 for two steaks and a bottle of wine, when both steaks were overcooked and for them to mess up our reservation it simply was not the evening we expected and we won't be returning anytime soon. We are both gutted because we used to love it at the Yew Tree. Others will come here and I am sure will have a fantastic experience but we won't be risking it again.

A lovely Sunday lunch we had yesterday and what attracted us to stop at this pub was the way the flowers were presented on the outside. The flowers looked lovely and the meal was definitely good value for money and quality. It has been included as one of our stopping-off places when passing by in future.

My wife and I have just had the misfortune to dine at this establishment and I have to say we will NOT be going back the food was terrible the service was poor and when we complained the attitude was pathetic. I will rate this place as 1 out of 10 and that's for opening the door.

We ordered two mixed grills, but when they arrived, sometime later, they were lacking something … sausage, gammon, egg, mushroom, tomato … we pointed this out and the lady who brought the food said “would you not just like it as it is?”. No we said, we ordered a mixed grill. “What’s a mixed grill?” she replied, so I read what it was off the blackboard. “Would you like me to keep it warm while I do you a sausage?” she asked. Looking at the chips that looked like they only very briefly seen the inside of anything hot, and the carrot mash looked very dry, we asked for our money back. This was when the land lady accused me of being a liar, when I said that it wasn’t what we had ordered and that we had waited over half an hour. At this point I considered showing her the till receipt that showed 2 mixed grills ordered 55 minutes earlier.
