Fabulous French brasserie with such a lovely view into leadenhall market. really great food - proper brasserie food - just right for these chilly winter months. It's so good and the staff so lovely I'm going back in January for my birthday dinner :-)

Browns has one of the finest festive fayres around for a very merry Christmas and is guaranteed to get your party in a merry mood. Take the top quality dishes and professional staff, add to that the stylish surroundings and your Christmas package is complete. Christmas party bookings are now being taken, and they can accommodate celebrations on every scale; from intimate lunches to high capacity evening parties. The Christmas menu this year is both traditional and alternative with vegetarian options on every course. The Browns menu begins with the choice of four delicious starters - Red Onion Tart, Smoked Salmon Timbale, Roast Tomato Soup or Roasted Figs and Air Dried Ham Salad. Then, take your pick from the obligatory Roast Turkey with all the trimmings, Vegetable Suet Pudding, Fillet of Beef on Toasted Brioche or Baked Monkfish - all accompanied by a selection of winter vegetables. Traditional Plum pudding, Chocolate Fondant Cake or Vanilla Panacotta follow, finishing off with some mini mince pies.

It ain't much to look at but this is a hidden gem. The chef/owner Fabrizio is very friendly and his cooking would not be out of place in a top class award winning Italian restaurant. He is passionate about what he does. If you ask him for a selection of starters he will whip up a selection of dishes in next to no time. The food is delicious! It is quite cheap too. You should try it.

An excellent restaurant and wine bar with great views over Leadenhall Market. The food is a mixture of traditional and Italian with a few innovations thrown in.

A very good and noisy lunch time restaurant in the Sq mile Getting into the seat is for the dexterous, the food is always fresh and the presentation very good. The service is very quick even when full. Not a place for a romantic lunch/dinner as you need to shout to be heard

Portal looks like a small venue until you step inside - it opens out to a gigantic glass conservatory filled with impeccably-dressed tables. Despite the large scale, the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, the owner Antonio always has time to greet us as we arrive. The menu's not overpriced - the seafood is the freshest I've found this far inland - try the squid, prawn and chorizo skewers on lemon rice and the custard tartlets are an exquisite dessert. Worth the extra dollar for a top notch city lunch!

This is mainly a City lunchtime place which stands out because of the fantastically fresh ingredients; which are all prepared freshly on the premises. The food is great value given the quality. Reasonably priced and well selected wines too.

Kasturi offers the best Indian food in the City. Great dishes that you can rarely find elsewhere and the service is always with a smile. They regularly have special events and they offer a service where you can book to go into the kitchen and watch your meal cooked on Mondays and Tuesdays if you book in advance. Highly recommended.

Located within a row of shops at the heart of the City, Mehek's diners could be in for a surprise on their first visit. The doors lead to a glitzy bar covering almost half of the front portion of the restaurant before opening out to a considerable dining area at the back. Diners were, unsurprisingly, mostly City-types and the restaurant was busy even early in the week. Mehek's décor and atmosphere match the restaurant's clients - this is a sterile, clean, contemporary, luxurious and sophisticated city space. The main dining room features neutral colours with terracotta being predominant and ?orokas?(antique wooden panels) hanging on the walls. Mehek boasts an intriguing, well-crafted Indian menu that raises expectation. The starters are reasonably priced from £3 to £7, with main courses ranging from £7 to £15. Of most interest were the house specialities like Hash Hyderabadi (marinated duck with sesame seeds, coconut and peanut sauce). But the star of the evening was undoubtedly the Boro Chingri Pardanashi (top-drawer king prawns, £14.90, cooked in a mild curry and served inside a fresh coconut), with high standard breads and rice to accompany. An exceptional taste, this dish is highly recommended for seafood fans. Ordinarily, Indian restaurants are not known for their wine selections, but at Mehek, connoisseurs can select from a respectable menu ranging from £12 upwards. The 2003 Santa Isabel Argentinian Malbec, a snip at £17 a bottle, with deliciously fruity flavour complimented the spices of the food. A second, more extensive wine list is available on demand for those with corporate credit cards. With friendly and attentive staff, Mehek is a diverting experience in the Moorgate area. Whether you want to play it safe with familiar dishes or push the boat out and be a little adventurous, Mehek likely has the dish for you.
