We have started going here quite regularly. Sometimes through the week and also on Sunday for lunch. Good wholesome traditional food. Service is good and the team are really pleasant. Very minor - sometimes the food could be a bit hotter

Took a friend for her birthday, spa treatments which were so relaxing staff very friendly. Then afternoon tea, great choice of cakes and scones, sandwiches a bit of a let down not asked or told what they were one ham and one salmon, salmon didn’t get eaten but would recommend. Lovely atmosphere in bar area highly recommend this hidden hotel lovely views over the golf course

Unfortunately we did not enjoy our afternoon tea we where told tea and coffee was not included in the price, we did not get asked if anyone had any allergy’s , we did not receive a menu so did not get told what we would receive, when the items came they where put on the table and we did not get told about what we where being served. The sandwiches were fresh and soft which was a good thing and the chocolate brownie was delicious. The scones were cold and hard. The savoury’s were small bits of pie and sausages rolls that has been chopped up. There was a white desert that smelled strongly and tasted strongly of egg and completely put me off my meal unfortunately I will not return. I will say the lady serving us was polite and welcomed us but the experience overall just lacked the luxury you expect from a afternoon tea this was for my mums 68th birthday and I felt awful about it.

Came for afternoon tea for 3 people for a birthday treat for my mam. Atmosphere was nice, it was quiet as during the day on a week day, room we sat in was spacious, bright and comfortable seating. Staff were friendly. Downfall was that it stunk, im not sure if this was because of the outside smell coming into the hotel or what but it wasn't nice. Also the car park is very muddy due to the rain, could be worth putting pebbles down. Afternoon tea - I didn't think it was worth the money at all, £23.95 yes you got a lot but I didn't think it was good quality food, we got 1 crusty bun with a tiny bit of ham and some butter, white bread with a slice of beef and butter, brown bread with some grated cheese, tomato and butter for sandwiches, no sauces on the sandwiches which was very unusual for afternoon tea. Half a pork pie which was tasty. The choice out of a fruit or cheese scone, fruit come with jam & clotted cream and the cheese come with chutney, they were tasty but other places I have been to you get both a cheese and fruit. Cakes were nice carrot cake, coffee cake and meringue, can't complain about these. I got a pot of tea and it came at best luke warm, the other 2 guests got a coffee but weren't given the choice of what sort of coffee they wanted, we didn't know they could have refills as we weren't told, it wasn't until another waiter came and asked if we wanted any more drinks towards the end of our visit, he then proceeded to ask which sort of coffee they would like. I didn't complain as it isn't the staffs fault they are told what the menu is and have to follow this so there would be nothing they would be able to do and as I say they were very friendly, this review is more so for the owners of the hotel to maybe look at improving the menu for the afternoon tea and making it a little bit of a higher quality for what you pay, I have been for many afternoon teas and I must say this was by far the poorest quality one I have had. Would I return, it's hard to say because yes I would return to see what the spa is like and the treatments however I don't believe I would return to try the other menus and I 100% would not return for the afternoon tea there is by far better places for it and even at cheaper costs. It might sound like I am being fussy but this is just my honest review and everyone's thoughts are different.

4 of us came for lunch and had a lovely table at the window looking over the golf course. The staff were attentive but not overbearing. The food was great especially the desserts which we tried because our daughter and their son are getting married there in October. Overall a wonderful experience.

Met up with family for lunch midweek. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. The chicken with haggis was very tasty and the Yorkshire pudding pie with mash was excellent. We had a walk round the village and saw lots of interesting remains of Roman buildings. A local resident told us about the Roman forts and settlements in the area, an unexpected added bonus. We returned to the George for coffee and cheesecake (wonderful). Great day, great food. Will visit again.

Had a lovely lunch, following treatments & spa. The lockers didn't accept coins in the changing rooms, so our belongings were left unlocked. Good value for money and friendly customer service. I didn't like the sauce with my meal. I said I would go without, but the staff offered and made an alternative. The lighting is a bit bright in the dining room and the decor could do with some refreshment.
