Very disappointing. Food was luke warm and portions were tiny We paid £15 a head for mixed vegetarian and fish thali - for this we each got two prawns, one tiny piece of fish each and a few potatoes and beans which had clearly been sat around for sometime before they were brought out to us. They were generous with the rice though. The drinks that we ordered weren't brought out and still didn't come when we reminded the waitress. Waitress cleared the table after main course and didn't return for 20 mins to ask whether we would like any dessert. We had lost the will by this time so we left the restaurant hungry and thirsty.

I recently went here with my boyfriend for a nice meal, we were put in a corner at the back which originally seemed quite and nice. After 10 minutes nobody had come to offer us a drink and when they finally did the waiter was rude and pushy. When it comes to curry I ALWAYS ask for a medium hot madras and at any other restaurant in Manchester this has always been no problem, the waiter proceeded to tell me "so you want a medium curry" after stating that wasn't what I wanted and that i'd look but could we just have the starters for now he proceeded to tell me how hot a Madras was and then read the whole menu out to me as if talking to an incompetent child. After 10 minutes he came back again asking had i decided on my mains yet to which i replied "the starters are fine for now" and he walked away shaking his head. The starters then took a further 20 minutes to arrive (and the restaurant wasn't busy) while another 2 waiters came over to see if we'd like mains. After the wait and rudeness of the first waiter I'd been completely put off for the simple fact that I will not be forced into eating when I am paying for a decent service. Eventually after having 2 starters (which to be fair were quite nice) and a pint and a half of carling the bill came £14.90 which i find ridiculous as the starters weren't extravagant ones. If you work in a restaurant at 60/ 70 it doesn't mean you can try to intimidate people to eat certain things or be plain rude. All in all a terrible experience of The "Great" Kathmandu.

i think this is the best Mediterranean food in the whole of Manchester. I like this type of food it's healthy and delicious. it's definitely worth trying.

This is a recommendation NOT to go here. 2 staff were quite rude to me. The Mango and yogurt sauce was not to a high standard. The tikka masala was bland with no depth of flavour and when I was asked if it was ok, my feedback was honest, to which the waiter pulled his face. The reason I'm writing this is because I've woken up with tummy ache this morning which is never a sign of good food! Please Don't read other recommendations on the web; it's certainly no Blue Tiffin (Oldham) or zouk ( mnc).

This is seriously the best curry place in town I wont eat anywhere else. The staff are great and I am never disappointed.

Came from Leeds with husband and visited for lunch on 9 Aug 2011 with 19 year old granddaughter who is at Man. Uni. Great choices on menu. Very welcoming host. Good value for money. We all enjoyed everything we had. What more can I say? Would definitely go again.

My wife and I went to Greens for something a bit different (neither of us are veggies) and to be honest we were a little disappointed. Whilst the menu contained lots of enticing choices, the reality didn't quite match. The goats cheese starter didn't have a lot of goats cheese, the puff pastry parcel was very dry, and there was definitely not enough raita, and the cheese and sage sausages were relatively tasteless (think Linda McCartney standard). As for the service, whilst I acknowledge that it was reasonably busy (ie not full but not empty either) I was rather annoyed that we had to wait in excess of 40 minutes between starter and main course, without any explanation. In summary I think the concept of the restaurant (and its celebrity owner) are better than the reality. We've ticked it off the list and won't be going back.

Utterly brilliant! With so many restaurants in West Didsbury it might be difficult to decide where to go but The Bistro never lets you down. Wonderful food, service and great value for money. I visit with friends, family, work colleagues and work clients and always enjoy the evening. The menu is terrific and the specials always offer even more variety. Whenever you visit you are always made to feel welcome by all staff, including the chef! Thank you once again for such an enjoyable night!

My sister and fiance live in Switzerland and the three of us are vegan and last time they were home decided to celebrate with a meal at the laughing buddha with all the family. (A table for five). The service was slow and delivered one starter then a thirty five minute wait for the other starters. This was followed by a fourty five minute wait to our main course in which our bowls of rice were platted in originally warm bowls but ten minutes later half of us were still awaiting our main dishes. A ten percent service charge was applied to tables of five or more we did not pay this due to the bad service. However, we did leave a tip of £3:50 which on reflection was not deserved. The owner took this as a insult and followed us to the door shouting at us in front of all the other guests as we were leaving and insisted we took it back. We did try to explain our reasons but staff either unable to speak English or trying to look busy without actually accomplishing anything. Shame as a party of us from work were going to book in for the following week but have now suggested to everyone i know not to eat here. I wouldn't eat here again /. what a shame

It was my first visit to Bistro 156 on the 1st June with my two friends - what a fab time we had. Food was delicious -decent portions for us girlies who enjoy our food. Shaun our server was very attentive and made us feel extremely comfortable. We ordered all 3 desserts and shared them. It is my birthday on the 15th June and I will certainly be returning.

Had a meal at Bistro 156 last night and it was delicious. Portions were normal sized for us girlies not afraid to eat and enjoy food! The desserts were so tempting we shared 3! And Shaun, you really looked after us - cheers! On a Wednesday it was fully booked - enough said!

Recently attended restaurant because of a deal on frugaloo. Wasn't expecting much for the price we paid but I have to say it was a great meal. Service was great and the food was excellent, fresh ingredients that worked well and a menu with an extensive offering of dishes from the usual curries to the very traditional gurkha dishes. All in all a great experience and I will certainly be going again.

Definitely NOT. High price & very little food. Snooty manager. Main dish sausage (2) & one scoop of mash potato - for around £11. I refused it & was told in a very condescending by manager that I don't have to eat it. The restaurant was full - reminds me of 'the king's new clothes' fairytale. The place to be seen whatever the cost or value.

I am a very foody person and after tasting the great food of Gurkha Grill I could not help my self to go their again and again. The food is simply wow and the members of the restaurant are very cooperative and friendly. Raj and Niel are always their to welcome us. I am 200 % satisfied with the nepalese food and environment and I recommend you to go their and experience yourself. I guarantee you that you will not regret it…..

Excellent dosas / idli. very reasonable prices. great place to try south Indian food. Very pleasant service. Only gripe is poster on wall stating they don't give tap water, and 50p for bottled water. Such a shame as tap water is standard in most Indian cafes. That aside, I will certainly revisit and try the thali
