On arrival we were told we had to vacate after 1 and half hours. Some of our party were 10 min late. We ordered food. Veg was frozen meat was lovely but didn't really have time for desert as we were rushed. Slightly disappointed. Staff were friendly tho. Would maybe go back. But not for Sunday lunch
The Beehive – Houghton-le-SpringVery poor quality food on my plate but my friend was happy with her choice. I had tempura prawns and she had the wagyu steak burger. There was nothing tempura about my prawns: it was thick, hard fish batter with small over cooked prawns inside. I ate the prawns but left the batter. The chips were okay but my friend ate those so I ended up paying £14 for a few over cooked prawns! The service was excellent though: friendly, quick, polite and helpful. Shame about the food. I won’t be back and would not recommend

Atmosphere was pleasant, however some of the decor was tired and some seats were ripped. Tables were clean and tidied quickly. Background music was an acceptable level and genre .
The Beehive – Houghton-le-SpringParty of 5 visited. 3 of us repeat diners, 2 newbies. 4 out of our 5 meals were great. We ordered a parmo, a salad, burger, pie and fish & chips. Portions are generous so don't be tempted to get side dishes unless you are really hungry. Staff worked very hard ,were helpful, attentive and pleasant. We didn't have the heart to say that the fish and chips was disappointing. It was as if it had been cooked an hour earlier and kept warm on the plate under a heat lamp. The side of chips also didn't taste fresh. This has never been the case before so we shall not hold it against them. I recommend booking as this place is very popular, even at lunchtime.

The Beehive – Houghton-le-SpringGreat service by all the staff that served us. Got 4 tapas to share and it was ample food between the two of us. All very tasty and freshly prepared. Good size portions of the belly pork, chimichurri steak, prawn tacos and salt and pepper chips. Would have liked to have seen some lighter bites on the menu for a lunch time, but there was a huge amount of choice already on the menu. Would definitely return.

The food was gorgeous and the staff made such a lovely fuss of both my son and my daughter - they even sang happy birthday to my son and brought a candle for a wish with the desserts. They were attentive and friendly - we’ll definitely be back soon!
The Beehive – Houghton-le-SpringWe went for breakfast after coming for dinner a few weeks ago. Unfortunately the breakfast wasn’t as good as dinner. There were items missing from my husbands breakfast (which we only realised should have been included after we’d finished). I had steak and eggs - my steak was over cooked and had a funny taste, eggs had been sat out for ages and it was very dry!!

The Beehive – Houghton-le-SpringThe Beehive is a real old-fashioned family pub. It wraps its arms around you as soon as you walk in. You don't have to be a regular to be treated as a regular. Lovely, warm people for whom nothing is too much trouble. They have an extensive menu to suit all tastes and the food is out of this world delicious. The portions are beyond generous, so much so that we were advised to share a dish and even then I couldn't finish my half. It's a long time since I enjoyed a dining experience so much more than I was expecting, and a credit to the hard work of everyone who works there.

We all agreed each meal was just outstanding and we could not finish them, they did not skimp on quality or quantity. The venue was friendly and cozy and the staff superb. Cant wait to go back to our new favourite restaraunt
