Lovely meal Good food Great service Festive and great with kids!

Had the beef Sunday roast could not fault the food or the service friendly staff and a beautiful view

We had an excellent meal last Sunday. We shared the terrine from the specials board, had a roast each and a pudding each. All of it was excellent and we, and our dog, were made to feel very welcome. Definitely recommend for food and service and the view from the restaurant area is beautiful.

The Shepherd's Rest is without any doubt the best pub I've been to in a couple of decades. A real traditional Yorkshire pub with really excellent food, service and atmosphere topped up by the most amazing views over the Calder Valley and, for hikers like us, the perfect spot for walking to Stoodley Pike. Bar manager James and bar staff Jesse deserve special mention. They were brilliant on every front: polite, enthusiastic, communicative and efficient. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Can't ask for more than that. Our only regret is that it's over an hour's drive away, so I'd make a request that you expand to doing B&B too as you'd be the go-to base for hikers in that valley. Have already mapped out more walks starting/ending at the Shepherd's Rest, whiich I've now recommended to many friends. Thanks again for a lovely day: can't wait to come back!

Nice Thursday burger offer, had already seen the menu online before travelling, Was amazed at the quality and quantity of the sharing platter, both the chicken and beef burgers were delicious, the chicken tenders and macaroni cheese bites were delicious, plenty of chips covered in bacon bits and cheese sauce, we couldn’t eat them all. The only minor negative was it was cold inside the building but despite that we’re already planning on returning next week. P.s the burger buns could do with being toasted slightly.

Wow we were very impressed. It's only the second time we have been there. Food was interesting and gorgeous. Everyone was happy . It was my birthday I will be back soon as will my friends. I should say it was awful because now we won't be able to get a booking. Thank you

Nice lunch in a dog friendly pub with nice views Three of us had delicious pies and one had gammon , also very tasty . Lovely green veg with the pies . The only minor negative was the veg was a little too al dente and very salty . No one likes overdone soggy veg, but this was almost not cooked at all . Other than that it was a lovely lunch and a good choice of non alcoholic beers too . Doggies made to feel very welcome too

We had a nice Sunday lunch recently but what really impressed us was the exceptional service. We really felt looked after, we can not praise it enough. We have already booked our next meal.

We had a celebration of Chris Stocks life this Saturday of 25+ people and the snack food laid out was really good and of high standard and the staff were wonderful and very accommodating and flexible. I would recommend them for any celebration events and dinner too as afterwards we had their delicious spicey pumpkin soup!

Excellent freshly cooked food and the pies went down particularly well. Good choice of beer and wine, I can recommend the White Witch.

We have been visiting this pub for years and the food is restaurant quality, fabulous. The staff are consistently friendly and professional. Well worth a visit. We had Cauliflower Romano and Blue Cheese Waldorf salad. Delicious.

We absolutely loved the food! Definitely come again. Maybe some steak knives for tge roast dinner perhapse? The service was 5* too. Best wishes Elena and Joachim

Me and my husband had a meal here the food was amazing. Place is beautiful. Views are amazing too. The young lady who served us was lovely. Definitely will come back. Spot on!!
