We were a group of 6 and had 5 different meals and they were excellent . It is a while since we’ve been in Whitby and the Magpie but we were not disappointed.

Loved everything about this place. Amazing food, amazing service, fair prices. Will return again and again and again etc.

On a mini break to York, thought we would try something different. Not sorry, very flavoursome food, we even cooked it ourselves at the table! An option which is available in keeping with Korean custom. Good and attentive service and value for money. Wine list very limited though

Everything I was hoping for !

Visited The Magpie on our recent wedding anniversary, which is not an event where one wants to take chances. I think my first visit was in 1970 and I have enjoyed many wonderful meals over the years. Our latest visit was no exception; the food was delicious. The service was good, but it was far busier than I would have expected mid-week in October. My only criticisms are that garlic seems to intruding and the Chablis was £36. I feel that garlic is acceptable with mussels, but not with any other fish. Sorry, but fish usually has a delicate flavour which can easily be swamped. Allow at least an extra half hour if you are travelling by car, as parking has become a nightmare. It is probably the reason why we usually go to Filey these days.

Staff and food excellent. We go to Whitby from Cheshire for two things. The Magpie cafe and the steam trains. Never disappointed.

From start to finish, the food and portions were just amazing (the mint crisp dessert deserves a special mention) along with the staff and their enthusiasm made our evening a night to remember. Saw brilliant reviews prior to our trip and we’re not left disappointed.

After 30 years the food is still as good.

Fantastic evening meal with the family and our new baby Grandchild. Food was excellent as was the service . Provided a highchair for my Grandchild and also a bouncy chair. Would highly recommend a meal here .

Visiting Whitby and advised this was the fish and chips place to visit. Read on-line best to book which I did. Food was a good fish n chips shop, not fatty and freshly cooked to order. Batter light and no skin on cod. Did get our bill before we asked for it but with a ‘please finish your drinks’. Very busy and felt very much in and next one due. Takeaway shop downstairs.

Had a lovely fish and chips lunch here, very tasty best I’ve had in a long time. Four different types of fish all delicious. Scampi was amazing too! Great service,I would love to eat here again but it’s too far away for me. Good value too!

As usual we had a excellent meal, fish/chips for myself and salmon with white fish and prawns and a creamy leek sauce for my wife, Gillian. The service was sensible, efficient and friendly, your anchovies are, and I am a connoisseur of anchovies! the best ever as pre meal nibbles. Although I must say the bread and butter pudding wasn’t much. As we live in Whitby we still consider that yours is still the best restaurant in town.

A thoroughly enjoyable experience from start to finish can't wait to come back !

Visited the Magpie during a short break to the Yorkshire coast. It was very busy - must be popular, who'd have guessed?! - but when we arrived we were seated and served promptly and didn't have to wait long for drinks or food. Our meals were excellent - but one thing I will say: the portions were large, too large! I'd have been happier with two thirds of the quantity (at, say, 80% of the price) rather than see so much go to waste as even I could not clear my plate.
