Did all the basics but nothing special

Lovely venue and great service. Would like to see more starters on the menu but what we did have was very tasty. Husband said the peppercorn sauce was the nicest he had had. Cajun chicken was very tasty and lovely fries !

We arrived at the Magpie and told to go upstairs for our tables. Once seated, we were outside the life and had no barrier around us like the other tables had. But it was good they had a lift, as it make the restaurant open to costumers who wouldn't be able to make the stairs. I just feel it was unnecessary to put a table there. We didn't ask to be moved as the place was packed and I thought there would be little chance. Our orders arrived quite quickly, two of us has the smallest adult sized haddock and chips. The quality was good, but if you are hungry then size up. What was disappointing with the thin and runny tartare sauce. One of us had a large portion of chips, which was a handful in a small bowl. For £3 odd, it was vastly expensive. I don't know if we would go back for fish and chips as everything was as expected and not fantastic. It's a shame as we were really looking forward to it. The view from the window was great.

Visited following friends’ recommendations and my 12 year old son in search of the best fish and chips in the UK. We weren’t disappointed. Great tasting, fresh and high quality. A long journey but we’ll worth it!

A beautiful setting. Varied and highly enjoyable menu. Great service where everything we asked for was delivered promptly and happily. Definitely a place I and my colleagues will be returning to again and again

Best Chinese in town and around North East! We have been visiting here past 10 years, still the best.

Had a really good meal here. The quality of the food was great, as was the service. There are options for those with allergies and we couldn't fault the overall meal.

Been to this restaurant on several occasions and have always enjoyed the food. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Earl Bird menu is good value for money and their pizzas, especially, are yummy

The best place for fish across Whitby! A massive selection of different fish and the best mussels I have ever eaten! I would highly recommend!!

I was really disappointed with The Magpie Cafe after hearing such amazing things about it. I’ve had better food abd treatment in my local chippy in West Yorkshire. The first thing I noticed was the abrupt manner of the person on the door. Despite having booked I felt we were shown in abruptly and spoken to like we were riff raff. Secondly the quality of the Fish was appalling when we received our Fish and Chips. I ordered the medium fish and chips which was at best a very small fish. At £12 this was unbelievably overpriced. We also ordered a small fish which looked bigger than the medium fish and when we questioned it we were told it was a big ‘small’ fish which did not make any sense at all. The waitress that brought the food out was abrupt too. My plate arrived with a portion of mushy peas on the side which I had not ordered and to be honest don’t like. When I advised the waitress she abruptly said ‘it’s not touched your fish’! It’s safe to say I won’t be going there again. It feels like a place that has been incredibly successful in the past and has gotten complacent as a result of that success. The one pleasant and nice person was the waitress who was taking the orders. It felt like she was genuine and enjoyed her job.

Was really impressed with the menu choice for gluten free and the knowledge of cc. Good service and value for money.

Dinning at this restaurant has always been our priority before unfolding our other arrangements for the past year and the food is always nice.

Great food as always, attentive service and fantastic value when you compare the cost of eating good food at Tai Saab against similar estabishments.

Enjoyed a lovely meal at Magpie Cafe this week. Couldn’t believe what a fabulous menu of fresh fish and seafood was available. We were a large party of 13 and had made a reservation. All food selections were thoroughly enjoyed and service was efficient and friendly. One of our party required disabled access and we were able to use the lift that goes from just inside the Magpie takeaway to inside the restaurant. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent food and service again

Even after booking 1 week in advance and notifying you of vegetarians this was a problem on the day. There had obviously been a lack of communication and a member of staff was moody and rude. We had a long wait and staff had to be reminded to bring glasses, condiments and water.

Delicious food and wonderful service, will definitely be back!
