The location is actually Sowood but that aside I love this inn! Lovely views down the valley from the garden area outside in summer and return visits are always a pleasure. Excellent food, excellent location and friendly and efficient service!

I often eat out in York and have found the Living Room the best in town. The food is superb, the service is friendly and efficient and the cocktails are fab! I would highly recommend this Cocktail Bar/Restaurant to all!

I have eaten here twice recently : the first time on New Year's Eve 2006 when we had a memorable night out with fantastic food and then last week when it was my birthday Again the food was excellent -authentic ,home -made style sauces to accompany the tortellini and a reasonably good wine list. The owner was present and was everything a host should be Our initial table was a bit too near the door for comfort but he switched us immediately I complained. Good value and highly recommended but you have to book well in advance to be sure of a table at the weekend

Very good and well presented food, the only complaint would be that the portions are too big. Had a potato and black pudding salad smothered in a rich buttery sauce and topped with a poached egg. Could have gone home happy after the starter, but then had a wonderful broccoli and mushroom soup and a Barnsley Chop for main course. The chop can only be described as a joint of lamb and I'm afraid I didn't do it the justice. I was going to give the desert menu a miss, but overheard a rather well-to-do old lady telling her guests when their lemon meringue, "don't look at what you can't eat, just eat what you can". This sound advice led me to the best ice cream I have ever tasted, which finished off an excellent meal.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Operetta. The ingredients were obviously fresh and authentic. The special board is one to look out for. We regularly eat at Operetta and we are never disappointed.

This is our favourite place and we will never tire of it. Every time we eat there the food tastes better than it did the last time and the staff seem friendlier than they did the last time and the atmosphere is always wonderful. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Very good meal pleasant surroundings but can be squeezed up if sat in a corner. Staff very helpful and pleasant, would suggest go early evening before it get very busy and you need to book. Price of the meal reasonable but you get a plate full, well worth a visit.

Pinocchios has a quaint atmosphere providing good service and excellent food, we go regular and have never had a bad meal, I highly recommend Mozzarella Carroza for starter.

Since the fall of Adam and Eve, Earth has been waiting for a change to redeem itself and prove to God that this world is worthy of something good. Come the millennium and low and behold, our saving grace has been bestowed upon us in the form of a restaurant. The brie and roasted pepper salad is divine (add cashew nuts and bacon to it too!) and people never stop raving about the nachos. Whether you live in the United States or Kathmandu, you have a duty to the Earth itself to relish in this delight. I can only compare the experience at Dare to a heavenly banquet.

Whilst other places come and go the longevity of this restaurant says it all. It has always been good. I used to go in the early 90s and the standards haven't dipped. The food is excellent, the service is unobtrusive and swift, and the cost is reasonable. Always a nice place to be.

What a fantastic restaurant - I loved the impression of sitting on the floor. The marshmallow parcels and the profiteroles were amazing and such a delicious surprise when I bit into them (yes, I shared two puddings!!) - am intending to take my son there, as he lived in Tokyo for 6 months. My new husband and I recently had the pleasure of hosting our wedding reception at Aldo's. Having been a patron of Aldo's since the age of 2, I had no qualms in placing this important event in their more than capable hands. It was no less than perfect, the food was impeccable as always, enjoyed by all (even the picky Hebridean contingent!), the atmosphere wonderful as ever and the decoration beautiful. But more than this, I was thrilled and honoured to enjoy the happiest day of my life with people who really cared about us! It was loud, informal, unfussy and exactly what both Gareth and I were hoping for. So stuff your sterile hotel wedding breakfasts, this was something to remember!!
