Ma Egerton’s Stage Door – Liverpool City CentreEnjoyed the setting on Albert Dock very much. Food OK but not memorable. Service slow. Ribs not bad but chicken fajitas disappointing.
Whats Cooking – Liverpool City CentreStepping into Ma Egertons felt like stepping back in time. Perfectly situated just behind the Liverpool Empire Theatre, this historic pub is full of character, rich theatrical history, vintage charm, and a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere, making it the ideal place to start an evening at the theatre. The five of us, ladies of different generations, shared delicious platters, olives and hummus, along with Prosecco, beer, and red wine. The menu isn’t extensive, but everything we tried looked and tasted fantastic. We also spotted other diners enjoying the homemade pizzas and famous Scouse with crusty bread, both of which looked wonderful. The staff were exceptionally friendly, attentive, and welcoming, making us feel at home from the moment we arrived. If you’re looking for an authentic taste of Liverpool, hearty comfort food, and a warm atmosphere before a show, Ma Egertons is a must-visit. We’ll definitely be back!

Whats Cooking – Liverpool City CentreOur 2nd visit to Souvla on a trip to Liverpool and again the food and service was excellent. Worth the slight walk out of town for the quality food and drinks and great service, even though we were running late for our booking they accommodated us with no issues.

Ma Egerton’s Stage Door – Liverpool City CentreMa Egertons was the perfect choice for a pre-theatre meal to kick off my mum’s 85th birthday celebrations. Located right behind the Empire Theatre, this historic Liverpool pub is bursting with theatrical character, vintage charm, and nostalgic warmth. The absolute highlight was their spectacular, authentic bowl of traditional Scouse. It is a rich, deeply savoury stew served with proper crusty bread and pickled red cabbage at a great price. My mum absolutely loves it and declares it the best in Liverpool—her seal of approval is not easily won! The staff are all exceptionally friendly, attentive, and genuinely warm-hearted. If you want an authentic taste of Liverpool, brilliant comfort food, and a warm welcome before a show, this legendary pub is an absolute must-visit. We will 100% be back!
