I recently visited this gem on Smithdown Road and was blown away, I had read some good reviews about the place, but upon arrival, the place was empty (which was such a shame). I chose off the Vegetarian / vegan menu, a selection of vegetarian dishes served on injera bread. The owner explained Eritrean cuisine and offered me a free sample of Honey Wine. The food was very clean and fresh and the owner explained the coffee ritual which I will certainly try next time I am there. Please promote this place and visit it.

A Liverpool legend. I have been going to Ma Bo for over 35 years. I have recently started returning on business and can therefore charge any siz e of bill. However, its the best alternative to being at home and i walk past many expensive restaurants to get there. I thus charge my expenses about £15 a time. If you eat once in Liverpool make it Ma Bo. From the wonderful duck prepared at the front to the cracking noodles it is all good. Cheaper than a trip to China!

My boyfriend and I went for a meal here on saturday night. We turned up and there were only 3 tables eating. Now know why! I would strongly advise you have a serious think before wasting your money here. The food was the most unauthentic italian food we have ever head - it was worse than something I would make at home! The bruschetta was soggy and the pizza barealy had any meat on it. I asked for spicy meatballs and they tasted bought and had no flavour whatsoever! It wasnt good value for money as the quality of food was so appauling. I would rather cook myself than eat here. The toilets were dirty and had empty toilet rolls lying around and the restaurant itself was filthy - there were cobwebs on the floor under our table. The only good point was the service - the manager and staff were friendly and polite, but that is all this place has going for it! I have never written a review before for a restaurant but I feel so strongly that I dont even think this place should call itself a restaurant!

Came to try here after friends recommendation, `yes its a nice ambience, friendly staff and really nice food. As a confirmed curry head I tried some of the Nepalese dishes they offer, starter was a mixed kebab splendid and unusual followed by a Lamb chop dish marinated in wine and cooked in a special source, no curry in it at all but lovely spicy hot sauce, really enjoyed them, my friend had lemon chicken which he enjoyed. The Peshwari nan was absolutely excellent, the nicest I have had in many a year. Try the unusual Indian dessert, like a hot jelly in a rosewater syrup. really yummy ! All in all a very enjoyable feast. Definitely going on the Yes List !

didnt have good experience were not told on arrival we could not order from live bar until 3pm if we had been informed we would have returned at 3 we noticed that another customer had had the chefs make him pizza from live bar so dont understand that my husband got some chicken tikka masala from buffet but very little chicken in sauce left we asked chefs if they would be replenishing same they said yes they were making it as we spoke still had not been replenished some time later we gave up waiting and left a shame because it was the nicest food available from buffet

The Westminster Tea Rooms are lovely to visit for Afternoon tea they have a few different afternoon teas to choose from, I have tried them all and would recommend all of them. The decoe of the tea rooms is very traditional with the white linen tablecloths that are spotless. This is a must to visit if you are in the area

I used to eat at The Shipping Forecast about once every month, and was always very satisfied. However, I visited last week and was extremely disappointed with the standard of the food. I ordered a chicken, bacon and avocado burger with twice cooked Maris Piper chips. The burger was fine, apart from the sliver of avocado. I was very disappointed, however, that instead of twice cooked Maris Piper chips I was served greasy, floppy chips that left the paper underneath almost completely transparent. Some of the chips were almost raw. My friend ordered the fish and chips, which was also very greasy. We shared a side order of onion rings, which would be best described on the menu as just 'rings' as they were mainly chunks of greasy batter, with hardly any onion at all. It's a shame that the standard of food has slipped, as the service and atmosphere cannot be faulted in The Shipping Forecast, and if you're not eating it is a lovely place to have a drink. There is a wide selection of ales, ciders and beers at reasonable prices, and all the staff are very friendly. The atmosphere is lovely and very relaxed. I will definitely be returning, but not to eat.

I met the head chef two weeks ago in a super bar called The Inn Beer shop. Thus Norma and I visited Lings last week. Our meal was superb. So much so we re-visited last night( Monday). Once again the food was of a very high standard. The restaurant is immaculate and I liked the ' ambience' very much. Lings will be a regular ' eating place for us from now onwards. We chatted to Ling ( owner) and she is a lovely person. We share a love of cats. Do visit Lings the food will not disappoint you. John

I have just been for lunch at the Caernarvon Castle, Birkenhead. I ordered a so-called “Gourmet Burger”. When it arrive I was informed that there was no coleslaw as they had run out of mayonnaise. I was asked if I'd like something else instead but not given any options. The burger itself was black on the outside and seemed to be made of some sort of red dyed processed meat: I took one taste of this and found it disgusting. The chips where supposed to be “skin on”, most where not. They were, soggy, oozing excess fat, and of irregular size with many small hard over cooked bits. The burger bun was also soggy and un appetising. In the end the only thing I did eat was the onion rings, again, these were soggy with excess fat. I would have complained if one of the waiters had taken the trouble to enquire but they did not. Overall I think the meal was of atrocious quality and extremely poor value Needless to say I will not be going there again.

Hmm, well the Veg Musaka was a plate of chedder cheese, the garlic bread was like croutons. Average price, but not good value. Nothing special, one of the staff seemed rude and patronising to his female collegue belilttling her infornt of us. Won't be going back.

Last time I set foot in Church House it was still operating as the Church HQ and as a regular meeting place for seminars and routine social work or health work related conferences etc - that was in "Fish n Chips" days(google it)*. Having been away from Liverpool for a few years now I had no idea it had been converted into Bistro Franc's. This time we were en route to see the Katona Twins at Great George's Hall (missing the England v Ukraine match in the process), got to the Bistro late and had to leave early before having our desserts. On the way back after the concert we couldn't get the thought of those exquisite desserts out of our minds and so went back and asked if we could finish our meal by having dessert. The place was empty and not far off closing but the staff immediately led us to a table and served desserts plus a complimentary coffee. We're both Francophiles but we've never eaten French food that good anywhere in France or anywhere else for that matter. Makes you proud to be a scouser. Paul & Liz

Went here for my mum's 65th birthday on Friday 15th June. We had the deal which includes a 3 course meal, a drink and a £10 bet for £21- absolute bargain! The menu was limited but the food didn't disappoint. Really well presented and very good quality food. Clean plates all round! We then had a lesson in how to play blackjack (part of the package) and we then had a little flutter in the casino and a few drinks in the bar area. Also there's a lovely bar upstairs Which had only just opened so was quiet on our visit but I'm sure it will fill up once word spreads. Would definately recommend this package to anyone looking for something different from just a meal for a night out. The staff couldn't do enough for us, the restaurant and bar are decorated out really well, great food and a few of our group also won on the roulette!
