Away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, Lytham holds essential ingredients. The Windmill, Lytham Green, Lytham Hall and the River Ribble estuary overlooking the Welsh mountains are all worthy of a postcard. A host of up-market restaurants will tickle your tastebuds.

Whether you want a coffee and a cake, a snack or more substantial meal or maybe a glass of wine, then Java could be the place for you. It is simply but elegantly decorated and has a lovely atmosphere. There are always a couple of fresh flower arrangements which adds a lovely touch. I love the coffee (Illy) and the cakes are divine. The menu somehow manages to cater to whatever mood you are in and ranges from breakfasts through to sandwhiches, pizzas, salads and some delicious italian inspired mains. I've been many times and nearly worked my way through the menu. Nothing has disappointed me yet! And I really like the way they serve wine in decent glasses! On a nice day you can sit outside on the piazza and watch the world go by. Java is the only cafe in Lytham I now visit! Highy recommended!

We have been going to this restaurant since it opened. It is excellent food, good value for money and the owners are always friendly and efficient. It has become a benchmark by which we measure other restaurants. Whenever we have anyone visiting, we always take them to the '88' for a meal. Our last visit was on 16/08/2009 and as expected the standard was excellent.

Definitely the best fish and chips we've eaten. Light batter and very juicy fish, although the "extra large haddock" (which was smaller than the "large cod"), wasn't really that large! The flavour and texture were spot-on though. Chips were delicious and there was no greasy after-taste, as is often the case with many fish restaurants (thick fatty batter). Highly recommended, but Whelans - please check out those portion sizes!

Took my good lady to Ego in Lytham on its second night of trading. Firstly I was surprised to see how busy it was, luckily the manager found us a table. The service was professional as I expected. The venue has a contemporary feel but still manages to exude a Mediterranean vibe. The Al fresco area is perfect for the summer months and I think you can drink in the bar without having to eat. The menu was short and sweet and truly I could have chosen anything off it. Mousaka and a veggie Tagine with a chorizo starter were our choices. Next time the meatballs or beef bourguignon. The Chianti to accompany the food did the job. Looking forward to being a regular.

I am not recommending this restaurant, in fact quite the opposite! I went with 11 friends for a birthday party last night and the service and the food was absolutely atrocious! I have been to Portofino several times before, the service has been poor in the past but last night was terrible. We had to wait over two hours for our main course, one of my friends was served mussels of which two were closed which is an absolute no-no, they made several mistakes with the orders so all in all a disaster.

As a regular and happy customer I can never understand why people complain about the price of drinks etc when they are clearly stated in the very easy to read menu! I find the prices no different than other restaurants..and the lovely friendly staff are always happy to answer any questions regarding the menu etc! I take my family there regularly and will continue to do so.

Came across this restaurant by chance whilst on holiday in the area 24th May, '09. Enticed by the £9.95 offer for two course starter and main meal. Ended up spending much more but it was well worth it. Scrumptious desserts, can highly recommend the creme brulee with home-made Bailey's ice-cream. Simple but tasty meals on the special offer pasta and pizzas. Owner very friendly and welcoming. Will certainly dine here again if we are in the area.

The pub is now a Sizzling pub however avoid this place. There is a new landlord intent on destroying the business. Ordered food, food arrived before cutlery put on table, one meal was not as ordered (2nd time in one week). Instead of taking both meals back they only wanted to take the incorrect order so one person would be eating while the other watched, did finally take both meals back. 10mins later meals came back however one of the meals was the same food that was taken back so by now was cold and the other had just been thrown together and was also cold and inedible. They are meant to be sizzling meals but both skillets were only warm to touch so no sizzle whatsoever not even a tiny hiss. Staff couldn't even be bothered that two untouched meals were left on the table to be cleared away.

Very impressed with Java. After many failed attempts at success by the former owner under a different name, this venue should be successful. The place looks good, bright and clean. The staff look sharp in their city style aprons. Everything on the menu was very reasonably priced and I really like the selection of dishes. Part cafe and restaurant with English and Italian influences. Its a bar as well with Warsteiner and Peroni on tap. They have also managed to bag Illy coffee which in my opinion is the best around. Good luck to them at Java.

Poor value for money accompanied by poor service for a large group 17 who have decided to choose else where for their annual meal. Dessert waitress didn't know the dessert menu. Luckily we checked the bill as that was wrong in their favour. Orders forgotten until reminded coupled with a complacent head waiter who probably doesn't realise he has to up the game of his team in terms of customer service. Plicating us with a couple of free dishes isn't the answer guys get it right to start with.

Have been to Java twice recently, once on a weeknight and once with a large group of people. It is very relaxed and a great place to sit and watch the world go by! The service was great and the food excellent, the food and drink is very reasonably priced too, which is a nice change in Lytham! Will definitely be revisiting on a regular basis!

A great cafe, the best grub in Lytham. Friendly staff, value for money and the best breakfast on the Fylde. Eat where the locals eat.

Gordon ramsay got it spot on when he said the fish and chips were absolutely excellent and the price of £5.95 for fish and chips including tea and bread and butter was great value along with nice decor and friendly staff looking forward to my next visit

Nice place to stop for a coffee. Great for dog-walkers as they happily allow your pets in the cafe.

Simply excellent, had the £18 banquet and thoroughly enjoyed it, excellent service. Not your normal restaurant, everything is quality. Can't wait to go again

Very slow in taking orders (we thought we were invisible for 15 minutes after taking a seat) and then when I finished ahead of my wife and daughter, one of many waiting staff hanging around looking around for something to do (how about taking orders?) tried to take my plate before I had swallowed my last mouthful. There is too much competition in Lytham to have to put up with such sloppy service, which is a pity because the food is good and the menu imaginative.
