veteran 1 review 12 February 2011 Well, 5 stars - from one person's review ! Times must have changed since then Mandy. Has anybody had a bad experience at Turturici Italian style restaurant in Davenham ? Let's be hearing from you. 11th February 2011 7.15pm visited and informed who appeared to be the owner that my wife and I were first time visitors. No problem there. Showed to table. Wine waiter offered his services and as I was having difficulty reading the menu (low light) he recommended a white wine. He offered it for tasting ( so far so good) but although the wine was 'fruity' it had a high acidic content. For my stomach I knew I could not take it. He gave me an indignant look as if it were wrong of me to say this. He turned away taking the newly opened bottle with him, returned and I was surprised by his attitude. He flew back to us in a semi angry way and dropped the wine list on the table (not given) and told me to pick my own wine and walked away. Oh dear, had I done something wrong ? I suppose I should have taken his recommendation. So sensitive ! What is the wine tasting for ? My wife looked in amazement. Never mind, let's move on. Scouring the menu suddenly a lovely young waitress ( very pleasant) served us with a bottle of water and two glasses. Not being a person who is fond of water and had never ordered we thought it was a mistake. I asked the young lady to return it as we hadn't ordered it. Oh dear, mistake no. 2. Wine waiter returned with a somewhat frustrated attitude and I selected another wine which was quite palatable. Well, it was Friday night and I understood from locals that it was a popular place and we had to try it. The starter and the main course were absolutely excellent - compliments to the Chef ( we think he's the one selling the establishment's reputation). Young pleasant waitress with a smile asked about coffee. We wanted to finish the wine and asked for 5 minutes. She didn't return but we asked the second young pleasant waitress for coffee who came to us. The wine waiter ( we think he may be the wine waiter ) rather speedily swung into action again reminding us in a belligerent and corrective way that we had asked for 4 coffees through two waitresses but rather sharply telling us he had spotted the error and reduced it to two ( oh dear mistake no. 3 regardless of the fact that I thought it was protocol to return to the customer to ask if we were ready for coffee again – ah well - wrists slapped). That put us in our place !! We looked around at the clientele and felt that the majority were local people and that it was albeit very expensive ( why ?) the only single restaurant in Davenham - hence monopoly. Yes, two pubs in the area but this was on its own. Why are their prices so high and that people are willing to pay such prices ? It beggars belief. Hmm monopoly indeed. Well the time came to pay and I was given a load of abuse from the owner who threatened to knock my 60+yrs of age head off and the wine waiter told me that it was a shame that he could only take the evenings money from my credit card and no more !! I was absolutely astonished and left ‘ gob smacked ‘. Who are these people ? Nice to some people and not to others ? Where was the professionalism ? They never found our coats for us and were arrogantly very rude indeed. We left. Having had 5 businesses in my lifetime and attended countless number of restaurants, never have we been received in such a way. It was like they could pick and choose their regular heavily paying punters. The owner had stated that they rule out children from attending the restaurant. Aren't they lucky to have this monopoly in Davenham when other Restaurauters are desperate for business in these times of austerity. We call it absolute arrogance and familiarity. Well, if we have dined incorrectly for the first time in our lives then truly we didn't know it. We have dined in top class restaurants as well as humble ones and never been treated like this. Shame on them. Chef and the two young ladies were absolutely fantastic. Time for them to take over. Anyone for opening another Italian in Davenham ?

my husband and i decided to go out for Sunday lunch somewhere a little different from our local haunts. we decided to book as we were not so sure if it was going to be busy. we arrived and were pleasantly greeted by the staff and escorted to a table, i asked to sit in the 'posher' left hand side of the pub which was empty at the time, there seemed to be a little hesitation about us sitting there, i initially thought the tables were already reserved but people were coming and going out of that room after we sat down so I'm not so sure why they looked surprised at our request to sit there. the drinks were brought to us promptly but were quite steeply priced. the food arrived quickly too, very well presented on the funky plates looking very contemporary. the mains was delicious but we were given a tiny bowl of mixed veg to share, quite a poor portion a sunday lunch i thought! the dessert arrived shortly afterwards, and it was thoroughly tasty, but im not sure how they justify charging 6 pounds for a 2 inch square of choc brownie with a small scoop of ice cream on top!! the meal in total for 2 starters, 2 mains, 2 desserts, 2 glasses of wine and 2 cokes came to 63.65. i cant grumble over the presentation or quality of food however we never had a table check for any of the courses, and i felt in total it was very over priced, even for a contemporary pub.

A real gem obviously run by people who really care about the food they serve and sell. As local Northwich residents we are lucky to have such an excellent establishment on our doorstep.

We have been having Fish and Chips at the Seafarer since the 1970's . Even though we now live in Liverpool we still go to Northwich as we love the Town and always enjoy the Fish and Chips at the Seafarer afterwards. . They are always freshly cooked and the fish is in a very light batter and the chips are first rate to. And don't forget the mushy peas as well. Hope you enjoy them as much as we have all these years.

overall this was a good experience. The food was above average, if not slightly overpriced. We would go back but don't like it as much as the Brunning and price pubs, the frozen mop and the bears Paw. I think the attention to detail here falls short in several areas and this establishment has a muddled identity. The staff were very friendly and attentive and service was of a high standard. I can recommend the lamb but don't expect large portions. The wine list has some quality wines to choose from. Don't let the excess of olive green paint get you down !! I would give this place 7 1/2 / 10. In summary, room for improvement but a cut above the norm, if money does not matter.

Robert and Anita, the hosts at the Spinner, should be rightly proud of this superb hostelry. We have always enjoyed meals at this comfortable and welcoming pub. Food is generally locally sourced and imaginatively cooked, delicious and large portions with a wine list for all tastes and pockets. This is the best food in the area at very economical prices, eg. main courses at approx £9 -16.

This is a fantastic place if you are looking for non pretentious, good old fashioned pub food with substantial sized portions. Real chips! Real food! A favourite with the locals, which is a good sign too . We are grateful we luckily came across this pace, and will be back sooner than later

I had a meal with my wife and another couple on the evening of Saturday 24th October and I'm afraid to say it was a hugely disappointing experience. Our last visit was prior to the Mooney's acquisition of the restaurant. My wife and I both had the Black pudding starter, which (according to the menu would be accompanied by home-made curried apple chutney. The black puddings were tasteless, the potato was also tasteless and cold and the apple sauce was clearly out of a jar with not the merest hint of curry or chutney. For main course I had Sea Bream, which arrived (a single, small fillet) with four 'dabs' of what was supposed to be a type of ratatouille - pathetic at £13.95! After the meal we asked which malt whiskies were available. There was Glenmorangie and Glenfroaig - the waitress also told us that they had Grants and Bells - so clearly she didn't understand what a 'malt whisky' was. We declined and asked for Port instead. The waitress returned to advise that they didn't have any. I raised my dissatisfactions, privately and discretely with the manager - Stuart. He advised that there was no demand for malts or port? When we received the bill (which was in excess of £160 for the 4 of us) he had taken a total of £7.50 from it. I wouldn't recommend the Duke of Portland to anybody.

Lovely food, although not very warm. Service was absolutely terrible. We waited an hour for starter. Management didn't think this was a problem. We also had to go to the bar to get drinks as waiters didn't come to table.

Very pleasant visit the other Sunday. The slow cooked lamb was delicious and I certainly don't mind paying slightly more if I'm to receive food of this quality! The live band - Three Point Turn - kept everyone entertained with their jigs and reels. Strongly recommend this place.

I have eaten here on a few separate occasions and I've always enjoyed my meal. I took my wife for Tea last night and we both opted for the Game Pie. I asked the waitress twice if it came with veg and Chips as the menu was unclear which she said yes. The Pie was 16 pound a head and when it was delivered there were a couple of Crisps a pie but no veg. So we waited and waited eventually someone realised something was wrong and they came over they said the veg was in the pie so they brought us some more over. There wasn't veg in the pie only a hair which fortunately was in my dinner and not my wife's who felt physically sick. The manager came over and I explained about the quality of the food and service I wasn't even kicking off I was merely explaining to assist them in future. They knocked the Veg and bowl of chips off the bill. I will never eat here again especially when there are other restaurants like the Plough and the Blue Cap who even when they don't provide quality food always provide excellent service

I found this place to be average to good on all counts except service which was disorganised at best.
