The Abingdon Arms – OxfordIt is so very refreshing to go to a quiet village pub (or gastro pub) where the staff are utterly charming and thoughtful, and who keep an eye out for what is going on (or not). I have not been here for a few years, but the food was very good and imaginative - there's a really good country pub chef (Eva) in charge of the ovens ! Our meal was very reasonably priced, along with a fairly modest and unpretentious wine list which was really very fairly priced. (A professional ' wine adviser' could add dramatically to the variety/quality of wines on offer, without necessarily increasing prices. ) New lavatories (now inside the pub at obvious great cost - the 21st century intrudes) add important updating to an old building, but curiously they seem a bit unbalanced in style, starting with the medium-oak doors. This lovely community-owned country pub is a great local asset, but its style is a bit confused: lovely old building, but with a risk of harming its charm and character by the style of its modernisation. All in all, one day it could become Oxford's best rival to the 'Sir Charles Napier' at Chinnor.
The Abingdon Arms – OxfordVery friendly and accommodating, especially as we were late, having lost a dog! The food was also good. Thank you.
The Abingdon Arms – Oxford5 star!
The Abingdon Arms – OxfordThis is my favourite country pub near Oxford. It's cosy in the main bar area, and there's a fabulous view from the terrace. Food is reasonably priced (by local standards!) and exceptionally good. And they look after their beer very well. Warmly recommended!
The Abingdon Arms – OxfordService was wonderful. She sat us next to the fire and was really attentive and friendly. Food was tasty and atmosphere at 12.15 on a Friday was buzzing. Thank you.
The Abingdon Arms – OxfordWe had a lovely lunch at the Abingdon Arms. Thank you for the warm welcome and our very tasty food.
The Abingdon Arms – OxfordExcellent food and service! They were very accommodating of our large group and equally flexible with changes of plans/timings!
The Abingdon Arms – OxfordAbsolutely divine, breast of goose and pheasant were our 2 dishes, would have cost twice as much in a fancy restaurant. Fabulous beer (4XT) and apparently the wine was fantastic. We didn't have a pudding but the coffee was so good we ordered another.
The Abingdon Arms – OxfordA great atmosphere as always lovely staff and really good food what more can you ask for/ brill
The Abingdon Arms – OxfordExcellent all round. Will return
The Abingdon Arms – OxfordWe popped in unexpectedly on a Friday evening. Warm, welcoming pub with a very cosy atmosphere. Four of us had four separate main courses and each one was well presented really tasty. I particularly enjoyed my venison.....locally sourced. Lovely evening had by all
The Abingdon Arms – OxfordThe food and service was perfect eventually. Unfortunately served luke warm but the staff sorted it for us and we ended up eating a hot meal 5 minutes later .
The Abingdon Arms – OxfordAlways enjoy coming here but this time the barn was COLD(!) and the haddock/chips only so/so (chips very stodgy) Very busy day so maybe not enough staff to cope? Will be back again but hope for better.. PS EV charging point not working!
The Abingdon Arms – OxfordLovely food and nice friendly atmosphere
The Abingdon Arms – OxfordHad a delicious Sunday roast for 5, including 1 with complicated allergies. We all enjoyed the food and excellent service
The Abingdon Arms – OxfordSunday lunch here is incredible with no elements of compromise or disappointment. Incredible roast vegetables with flavour and individual touches. The gravey excellent and deep. The roast potatoes as you would want and the Yorkshire pudding doesn't taste of wall insulation! My point Sunday lunch here is incredibly crafted with care. Atmosphere always great as this is a genuine country pub with history in its walls set in a wonderful setting. My favourite Sunday lunch venue by far in Oxfordshire.
The Abingdon Arms – OxfordGreat food, good service
