The service was immpeccable. I was greatly impressed with both the food and the quality of service; the waitresses always had a friendly smile. The atmosphere was very welcoming and i enjoyed my meal greatly.

dunno whats happened to this place. 2 years ago i visited and really enjoyed. This time poor service microwaved food and in general i felt like my being there was putting staff out. Noticed that the pub across the road is now doing food ( station hotel) and on speaking to some locals have discovered that its now the place to go for food in town. Am back in a couple of weeks and will give it a go.

A very warm and friendly atmosphere. Cosy real fires in the bar as well as the dining room. Worth many more future visits.

Visited 14/11/07 after reading a write up in a Good Pub Guide and glad we did. The staff especially the lady behind the bar were extremely polite, friendly and smiled. The food was delicious.. we opted for the monkfish tails with rocket salad and lemon mayonnaise and smoked haddock with poached egg and grain mustard sauce followed by wild strawberry creme brulee (nearly as good as Nicks (Bolton). The prices were slightly more than what you would normally pay for a pub lunch but worth every penny. Its a good place to stop off at if you are travelling up or down the M6 - if only we lived closer! Would definitely recommend a visit.. cant believe we are the first to write a review

Dougs Diner to me makes the best cooked breakfast around, well worth a visit if you are on the M6 and heading North or South.

We were the first table of the night so I expected better than we got, really. My minted lamb shoulder was burnt on the bottom and to the side and gravy was strangely tasteless. My husband received a lovely large piece of haddock but this was let down by the frozen chips it came with. My sons pizza was burnt. Deserts were very nice though. Came to £48 for two adult mains, 2 childrens mains (deserts included), 1 desert, 2 pints lager and 2 cokes.

Microwave meals served at horrendous prices. I had a deep fried sausage with bisto gravy and microwaved mash. My childrens meals were equally as disgusting so I made them leave them and went elsewhere! Truly the worst place in the village!

roast lamb was excellent as was the homemade rhubarb pie

we had a table booked for 7.30 the meal came at 9.20 after we asked for it. it spoilt the evening.

We were a party of eight and all choose widely from the menu. Our total bill came to £156 including drinks. The staff were absolutely marvelous and we had a super time - nothing was too much trouble.

Our food at the black swan was exceptional, the staff were very attentive and we were impressed with the selection of real ales on offer. Our accomodation was also to a very high standard, we would recommend anyone to go!

Fantastic menu served in a very comfortable surrounding. Great for families or special occasions. Superb.

The food, staff, beer, facilities, atmosphere and sunday night quiz were excellent! Would definitely recommend this to everybody young, old and disabled alike. Made us feel so welcome we went every night for the whole week of our holiday!

We had a wonderful couple of hours in The Sun's lovely beer garden on a gorgeous sunny evening, the food was good and very well priced and the staff couldn't be more helpful. Definitely a must if you're in the area on a summers evening.

Very good food at reasonable prices, offering bar meals, hot and cold sandwiches, salads etc. Quick and friendly service. Will definitely be visiting again.

Good pub grub, burger and chips etc, very tasty food at a great price, nice for a spot of lunch and a pint.

I found the food to be extremely well cooked and presented. Getting a proper blue steak is a test of a real chef and my fillet was perfect The decor was contradesque with a very friendly ambience and service. The views from the picture windows of the ancient church and distant fells was priceless.

Overlooking lake Ullswater the view is beautiful. Unfortunately we ended up eating a main course with no vegetables not realising they should be ordered separately. Our own fault I suppose but maybe some guidance by the waiter would have been helpful here. I cant imagine many people want just the main dish on its own. Instead we were left hungry so if you eat here remember to ask for side orders too! Having said that, what we did have was very nice.
