I visited the Herdwick for lunch last friday. It's situated conveniently off the A66 toward keswick off the m6. I had a gorgeous baguette with tarragon chicken. It came with a well dressed salad and was presented well. The service was very friendly and attentive. The ambience was typically rustic with a huge fireplace that must be perfect to sit near in the depths of winter.

Great real ales, fantastic value food and good choice. Two course Sunday lunch at £6.95 is great value. Staff very friendly and service very quick.

The string beans were to die for!

A fabulous meal, with a great selection of dishes from traditional to bordering on the exotic, with ample portions to boot! A fabulously intimate atmosphere with an impeccable service delivered with good humour - an entertaining night it was!

The Lamb Henry is the best we've ever had. In fact we've never had a bad meal or bad service at Brantwood and always take friends/relatives here when they visit us.

Excellent night out. Would recommend to anybody wishing to have a good night.

Lovely food - don't be put off by the 'simple' menu - this chef knows his stuff! Sauces were excellent, the ham hock is absolutely delicious - the best ham I've ever had - but you have to be very hungry to eat a whole one! Generous portions. We stayed several nights and were never disappointed. Real beers too.

Excellent food with a wide variety on the menu and often offered rare dishes not found in pubs elsewhere. Thoroughly enjoyed the meals here with the owners Paul & Louise to be found extremely charming and welcoming not to mention the locals creating a great atmosphere. well worth a visit

I have never written a review before but after our lunch today I felt compelled to tell everyone about my experience. Honestly words cannot describe this hotel. I went to the hotel for lunch eager to sample the new local dishes I had heard so much about. The food was superb, the views are the best I have ever seen and the service was second to none. I don't think I will ever be able to take my girlfriend anywhere else after this experience. What a shame!

Indiagate is a breath of fresh air! Contemporary and colourful surroundings, exceptionally attentive and well mannered staff and food to match. The dishes are full of the fresh ingredients you would expect but so rarely find. The staff always try to temp you away from the usual 'safe' dishes and you really should trust them- you'll be pleasantly surprised! 10/10

I think the views from the restaurant windows are the best of any in the UK. And as the restaurant has had a Michelin star for years it makes this place a real special treat!
