Karens Unicorn – Edinburghabsolutely wonderful i was there last Thursday cant fault service brill food
Rancho Pancho – DundeeExcellent service from the staff of Malmaison in Glasgow. Apparently this was the first of the boutique hotels and restaurants in the group. We all enjoyed different steaks in their subterranean bistro. The wine list was very well stocked and we had a couple of French reds that were on offer. Perfect location for exploring the City of Glasgow too. Hopefully we will return.
Chez Mal Brasserie – GlasgowHad birthday celebration here and was delighted with the evening. Well prepared, well presented and well priced food.Waiting staff friendly and attentive.I have now booked an anniversary meal there.Tricia.
Mailcoach – GlasgowHappened upon the Balintore Hotel and decided to stay the night - lovely room overlooking the sea, friendly welcome and service and excellent dinner - I can particularly recommend the fish pie! Good value for money as well (B&B for 2 - 60 pounds); I'd definitely come back again.
Balintore Hotel – HighlandsFood excellent, as good as I've tried in the more expensive Thai restaurants in town. BYOB and added bonus! Small but very friendly too.
Absolute Thai – EdinburghWhere to start. . . . the fantastic value for money....the friendly welcoming atmosphere....the outstanding portion sizes. or simply the high quality, wonderful tasting dishes this Indian offers? For us the Anarkali is something we have both grown up with, recommended by several family members from different generations who have frequented the restaurant since it opened. As a result the staff have become a surrogate family themselves! As previous reviews have mentioned other more modern, 'trendier' Indian restaurants across Glasgow have disappointed on several occasions. Nowhere ever seems to be able to meet the high standard of service or great tasting variety of dishes available on offer at this South Side eatery. But don't just take our word for it - go try it yourself! Oh and one last word of advice - book in advance if you plan on going on a weekend as it's always packed......need we say more?!
Anarkali Indian – GlasgowNot sure about this place. Soup was ok but main not great.Perhaps because it was a monday night or perhaps because they get a high turnover of non regulars.
Mings – Glasgowi would recommend the staging post to everyone.there is a great atmosphere and children are also welcome. the food is really well priced and is home made and tasty.
The Staging Post – AberdeenWithout a doubt, the best Mexican food I have had. The staff were super-friendly without being over the top. The restaurant is spotless and relaxed. I loved it and am already planning when to return!
The Bonnybank Inn – FifeVery good authentic cuisine
Manzil Tandoori Restaurant – DundeeRecently we spent a wonderful evening at The Old Bank Restaurant, to celebrate our Anniversary. The food was delicious. We were pleasantly surprised by the large choice of daily specials as well as a varied A la carte to choose from. The food arrived piping hot and the serving were generous. The desserts were equally satisfying and we were having such a lovely evening in tastefully decorated surrounding that we relaxed with liqueur coffees! What a treat it was. A huge thank you to the staff for a memorable evening. We will DEFINATELY be back for more. PS. I should mention that my wife is vegetarian and she also had a variety of different dishes to choose from.
The Old Bank Restaurant – DumfriesAte here the other night and took some friends with us. The choice of starters was excellent and although the menu was only on one page there was at least eight mains to choose from. One of our group was veggie and she had three quite unusual mains to pick from. The stuffed chicken and sea bass dishes were brilliant but the real star was the sticky toffee pudding which was one of the very best I have tasted. Apparently the woman cooking got the recipe from an old lady in Banff but it beat any I have tried in Glasgow or Edinburgh by miles. Also saw their valentines menu which looked quite special but was not able to come back for that. They say they source as much ingredients locally and even had the names of some of the suppliers on the menu which I thought was good.
Eilean Dubh Restaurant – Highlandswe don't want to recommend the Anarkali because we want to keep it to ourselves. Fantastic food, really friendly staff and BYOB - what more can you want? Been to many other Indian restaurants but none come near it for quality and value. Please don't redecorate - we like the 70s decor!
Anarkali Indian – GlasgowVisited on 17th of Feb 2010, superb meal in a spacious and well presented area. A little pricey, but not over the top and worth every penny.
The Lynnfield Hotel & Restaurant – Orkneys and ShetlandsI tried this cafe for breakfast. 1 regular breakfast, 1 large breakfast and 3 drinks came to £21. The food was locally sourced but I think the sausages were reheated and spoilt the meal along with the price tag, My wife said the hot chocolate was very good.
Julia’s Cafe Bistro – Orkneys and ShetlandsGreat food-all very fresh and tasty. A small friendly restaurant with a good menu (including good amounts of seafood and vegetarian) and offers for lunch and pre-theatre. BYOB also available. Good location for King's theatre and Cameo cinema.
Absolute Thai – EdinburghI could no disagree more with the review. When we arrived, the waitress, who we later found out to be the owner, shouted to the young bar man, " customers, the door". He obliged, and we were sat very awkwardly on one of the two cramped leather sofas immediately in front of the bar, where we were served a drink before dinner. After 20 mins, and once the owner had finished gossiping with two other customers, she acknowledged our presence, even though we were sat less than 1 metre away. She took our food order, and the bar boy showed us to our table. Apart from the fact that one of us had to sit on what I consider, uncomfortable pub bonkette seating, the table was fine. My pate starter, which was very flavoursome, was served with toasted pan bread with the crusts partly trimmed, why I dont consider acceptable in an establishment which boasts its menu, and a salad of shredded things which looked like it had fallen out of a bag. The cumberland sauce accompaniment was a sweet pink sauce, made from what im not sure. The other starter of pork belly, was very nice. Nicely cooked and flavoursome. My main of Braised Lamb Shank, hadn't been braised in the sweet red sauce which it sat in, possibly cooked in the oven, however the sauce had not a trace or a taste of any thing like the onions, garlic and other ingredients it should have. The bed of mash was dry, not creamy, and lumpy. The other main of Venison was beautifully cooked. It sat in the same red sauce which had been slightly tweeked and tasted marginally different. We selected a 2007 Australian Merlot which was very nice. We didn't have desert or coffee, however we did mention all of the above to the waitress who was eager to let chef know. We never heard back, and we saw chef leave just before 10 as there were only five tables of two at the evening siting. Apparently Mitchell's is a very kitchen orientated restaurant, and if chef or the owners consider it ok, then its fine. We were disappointed to say the least as we had been looking forward to the evening and I'm not surprised the staff were unhelpful, unhappy and did not smile, and the owner didn't seem to bother either. The wine (£18), two drinks and two courses each cost £74.50. We didn't think it value for money.
Mitchells Restaurant – Glasgow2 courses for £16. Available Monday to Friday until 7pm.
