Ate at the new Edinburgh branch recently. Well... I guess this is what Scottish might think Tapas or Spanish cooking is. More accurately (and depressingly) it is what Scottish people want in a restaurant ie lots of very heavy, deep fried, greasy and gloopy versions of Tapas. The service was very good, the restaurant is bright cheery and new, but sadly the food is dreadful. Went with a Spanish person who begged me to leave, but we were hungry so stayed. A shame really as fresh, authentic simple Tapas are easy to produce and delicious. (perfect example is Barrafina in London) Upon asking the (French) waiter, he confirmed that there was not a Spanish person anywhere to be seen in the kitchen. Can we not raise our expectations and standards a little in this country when it comes to food ?
