25 June 11...'have never written one of these reviews before but as we use them for guidance feel we must share this gem with all those who have done so "for us". This is by far the best Italian food we have ever had in over thirty years of eating out. Scallops and anti-pasto to start; absolutely divine. Veal with sage and fillet with pepper and mushroom for main; beautiful. Portions so large could not even consider desserts! Add one litre of house wine and bill came to £60! 'have visited MPW's The Swan, several times; similar fare cost £110 and was mediocre by comparison. Tony has such a passion for his food, even down to his chips! And what a welcoming place This is authentic Italian food in authentic surroundings. Sorry Marco, we work hard for our pennies and now know where to get the best value and the best food, if we're eating out! Thank you Tony and Jane for a fabulous time. Will see you again soon.

Went for the first time last week the food was really really tasty and the staff were lovely, the definitely went the extra mile to ensure customers were comfortable and had everything they needed, so looking forward to going back.

My wife and I have eaten at the Jolly Highlander on two occasions over the last couple of years and found that the food was excellent and of good value and the staff were polite and helpful. Overall, excellent value for money

Le Boulevard is the best place to eat in Southport - I never eat anywhere else! The staff are very friendly and will do anything to make your eating experience a pleasurable one. There is a fabulous menu with a wide choice of main meals and light bites! The chef is very passionate about his work and this reflects in the excellent quality of presentation and taste of the dishes. A 'must' place to eat!

Love it when you have an enthusiastic chef, who brings innovation to stimulate the taste buds of it's clientele. Will always encourage them to return. :-)

I worked at this restaurant for six years and will miss it a lot. The food is delicious and ALWAYS fresh although it is only a small place it has a lovely chilled out atmosphere and the staff will always go out of their way to please you. Definitely worth a visit :) wouldn't choose anywhere else to eat in Southport.

I recently ate here with my family who were visiting Southport. The choice was excellent, the food was excellent and the service was excellent. I would recommend this restaurant with reservation.

i am a regular customer at this wonderful restaurant as the staff are very friendly and the food is great. The chef is very polite and meticulous over his special dishes of which are amazing, i have no complaints.

After recommendations on sugarvine tried Tony's. Absolutely fabulous, best pasta I have ever tasted. Don't miss a chance to visit this restaurant.. Excellent value for money.

Firstly, May I point out how fantastic, friendly and warm the service was! It was simply unbeatable. You could hold a conversation as if you've knew them for ages and are having a general catch up as it were. Now, onto the food. Delicious. No, heavenly. For starters I had the minestrone soup which was freshly prepared for me, then for the Main I had the Chilli con carne, my brother had the barbecued pork if I remember correctly which he wolfed down (considering he's a fussy eater this was a great result!) and my grandma had the vegetarian option. The chilli con carne was slightly piquant, but delectable all the same. Also, don't forget that the food cooked here is ALL home-made. Twinned with the ambient surroundings (and the service!), you have the most fantastic dining experience. There's no long wait as you'd find in Pizza Express, and the food is piping hot without fail. They have a desert trolley with all home made cakes made by the chef, if I had my way I would have had them all. No over exaggeration. I ended up going for the lemon meringue like my brother whilst my grandma settled for the apple crumble. We all enjoyed the deserts thoroughly. Taking into account the quality of the food, service and surroundings you'd be expecting a hefty bill when you go to pay. Do not fear, I was pleasantly surprised when the waitress told us how much it was. Absolutely outstanding, it really is. So, if your looking for a pleasant restaurant, that is ideally situated in Southport with top-notch, fresh home-made food and don't want to splash the cash then the Little Gourmet is perfect for you. Go on, give it a try. I promise you won't regret it. (Next time I'm up North that's my 1st stop.)

I would Not call it a recommendation but more to the Contrary. My Wife & I have not been there for years & that was when it was called the ''Natterjack''. It is My Birthday this weekend & My Wife thought She would surprise me & go to the Toby Carvery as some of her work mates had recommended it to her. We both went there this evening Friday April 15th 2011. May I say that We were both shocked by the Food on offer. Turkey / Beef / Honey Mustard Gammon, all sounds great but if it is poorly cooked or dried out as this was then it is Not to appetising. The Vege was all dried out including the Peas which looked like they had been shrunk & were wrinkled. The Mashed potato was like Crispy Polycell. To put it mildly it was a disgrace. The carvery meat was badly presented in as much as the Beef was only the size of A Fist as was the Honey Mustard Gammon & yet it was still being carved up. The Turkey on the other hand was about 12inch high. My Wife & I do go to the Bay Horse in Formby & have never had a bad meal there. We most certainly will Not be back to the Ainsdale Toby. Thought you should know. We could Not Fault the Service or the Staff but the Food Yaaagh !!!

Fabulous first class place to eat. The staff are so professional and welcoming and obviously enjoy there jobs, the food was world class. A real treat, it is not often you get a place with a relaxing ambiance, good food, good wine and good service this place has the lot . If you have not visited its a must!
