The ambiance is certainly more than OK, as well as the service and the food. It's a shame that the 2 best red wines (Italian) on the menu were sold out. The sam goes for the port. A cheese platter without port is a bit disappointing.

We waited 20 mins for our drinks order to b taken then another 15 mins to take our food order then another 20 mins for it to come the meal wasn’t good I had a sandwich no salad my choice but the sandwich was the size u wld give to a kid my onion rings were warm but soft so not cooked right my friends had the steak pie which the meat was hard and the the puff pastry wasn’t the same as it usually is and the veg was hard so not cooked properly so on this occasion it wasnt enjoyable we go there regularly so we’re disappointed

My mum lives very locally to the hotel and we’ve had a long connection over the years. We enjoyed our meal but I have a few bits of feedback which may be helpful to you. We felt the menu was rather limited and could be more varied. The format of the menu is not clear. Under beef dishes after steak pie it then said stornoway and balmoral. We had to ask the waiter what that meant. It’s not clear. There was only one chicken dish. Disappointing. I ordered the fajitas……they did not come sizzling as one would expect and I was only given 3 very small tortillas which was rather minimal! I had to ask for more which we got and was glad we weren't charged extra for them. They were also extremely spicy. I love spice but this was a bit OTT! There is much potential here. The atmosphere was lovely. The staff were very nice. But…..your menu needs a revamp. It needs to have more variety. The lounge looks lovely and I could see myself meeting a friend there for coffee. The toilets are lovely. Could you add hand lotion? Please don’t be disheartened by my comments. If there was a more varied menu I’d definitely come back. Eg……. another chicken dish…..even balmoral chicken? perhaps an “interesting” pasta; What about a fish pie? Stirling is severely lacking in good places to eat out. You could have a good mine here! All the very best for your future Kathleen Counrough

I had the steak pie and my partner had the macaroni. Our meals were lovely, really nice home cooked food. I would highly recommend.

Lovely little restaurant, very helpful staff and the food is delicious. Can't tip on card payments which I feel isn't fair on the staff as I didn't have any cash on me. But definitely recommend.

Absolutely brilliant service and good. Me and mum went for a Sunday roast and I don't know if there's a new chef but the meal was outstanding. Chicken was tasty, full of flavour and mum said her beef was melt in the mouth. But what I really want to praise is the staff! There was a young waitress who could see we were struggling with the heat. My mum was feeling faint and the waitress made sure the AC was on and gave her a little hand held fan and brought over a massive jig of iced water quickly and checked back on us to see if we felt better. What is a shame is that we can't tip on card payments. We wanted to give a tip but didn't have any cash on us. I feel the waitering staff and chefs will be losing out on well deserved tips because of it. Hope this will change for our next visit! Thank you!

Terrible service. Wait staff not attentive at all, inc what looked like the manager. Took absolutely ages to order, receive the meal and then get the bill. Food was ok, though veggie fajitas were a joke. Tiny wraps and filling was only onion and peppers, so basically the base of the chicken fajitas - no extra vegetables put in place of meat and definitely not worth the £17 charged for them. Such a shame as used to be a good place.

We went there on Wednesday. We are relatively regulars. This occasion was probably the worst ever. By their own admission they were short staffed and there would be a delay. Don’t get me wrong the staff were lovely but the service times were poor. Gotta say the food was below their usual standard. I can only hope they get their act together or locals and tourists will go elsewhere. We won’t be back for a while.

Oh dear! What a difference a change of ownership can make. I have enjoyed lunch and dinner here for many years. For many years I have received consistency in customer service, food quality food and whole some portions. Good value for money in a beautiful historic setting and great location. My go to place for birthdays or occasions as I knew that I would enjoy. What has happened ? I am so disappointed! Lack luster service, gone is the friendly chat banter and the attentiveness of the waitress/waiter in looking after you. The portion sizes normally a plateful! What has happened to the portion sizes?

I have been going to Cronies for several years for lunch with friends. Meal always nice, but after yesterday's mean we will definitely not be back. Soup was like dishwasher and very salty and it was cold. Sent it back which wasn't a problem for the staff. Definitely won't be back, plus there is a price increase.

Booked a table for six for lunch recently and was very disappointed. We choose the Golden Lion as it is within easy walking distance from the train station. We have been a few times and the food and service have been fine. Unfortunately, on this occassion the first food to arrive was cold and had to be sent back. On the second attempt the food was still luke warm and was not what was described on the menu. The waiting staff were quick to deal with all issues and did allow us a free bottle of wine, which was appreciated, but did not make up for the unappetising food. Needless to say we did not stay for desert. From listening to comments from other diners it appears we were not alone in feeling let down.

Went for evening meal . Limited choice for vegetarian meals . The restaurant was busy . I ordered vegetable fajitas. The vegetables were a pile of fried onions and a few slices of red and yellow peppers. There were no other vegetables evident such a green beans , mini corn on the cob or mushrooms. There was three mini tortillas which were not warmed up . The flavour was nice but for the price of the meal it could have been better. Staff were nice and good service.

We got let down by the hotel we were staying in as they had no kitchen staff turn up. On reflection they did us a favour as we managed to get booked in at the Golden Lion, the food and service was spot on, we would definitely go back.
