We have only known of The Smokey Cow this year and have always been highly Since we discovered the Smokey Cow we have been delighted with the food and service and have recommended it to both family and friends but Sunday it was poor. On arrival we immediatley noticed the lack of the fire which gives warmth to the room. Nothing was up to the standard you have got us to expect. The whole experience was disappointing

Lovely meal and lovely service.

Rather disappointed with the Valentine's Day menu and not much effort was made to create a romantic atmosphere for Valentine's Day. Food was okay, but nothing special.

It’s really beautiful inside and out, but unfortunately that’s where it ends for us. The chef was a nice man from what we saw and heard, but didn’t get to try his food! We were seated and asked if we wanted a drink before we’d even sat down, which would normally not be an issue. But after getting us all drinks they decide to tell us what’s actually available! Loads have things had been sold out eg. No burgers, seabass, beef etc. Unfortunately that was the reason we’d came so decided just to have nachos and leave. There were 2 younger members of staff, and I found them both rude. One was listening to our conversation the whole time and actually decided to give us her input.. they were walking in and out the kitchen swearing at each other and everyone is the restaurant could here. It didn’t feel very professional of them to be walking around and moaning about other staff members whilst serving customers. There was also no music on, which is personal preference but it was quite awkwardly quiet and we could hear all the staff/chef conversations about previous jobs and personal chats. It also felt like the ladies were staring at us a lot, taking about wanting to close early. I understand the chef wanting to shut the kitchen, it would be quite embarrassing not being able to serve the meals you wanted to. So I have no issues with that, he sounded like a nice chap. I would like to visit again, as we’ve been told the food is amazing.. but hopefully we have a better evening.

Nice venue in quiet countryside, parking was easy although the disabled spaces are not marked very clearly with the symbols being very worn, also on a bit of an incline but nothing too major. We didn’t stay too long after finishing our meal, for me it was too noisy, and I don’t know why that was, there were other people in the restaurant but not overcrowded, the chairs not very comfortable and not much in the soft furnishings department but adequate. The food was good without being amazing, a little on the expensive side, but again not amazing so, would I go back, no but that’s because it was to noisy which does bother me. I’ve given each section a 3 from 5 rating, if I’d gone with a bigger crowd that might have changed the score, but not the place if you want a quite meal, nobody’s fault really. I do write this review through gritted teeth, reason being, this isn’t a great review, yet, the menu and food itself is excellent. Everything else is the issue. The friendliness of the staff was great, but, overall service, attentiveness to the table and time for the food to be served is disappointing. From seating to placing an order was fine, but, we must have waited 50 minutes for our meal. Once finished, we sat with empty plates for quite some time and actually wanted to order deserts but gave up in the end. After asking for the bill and again waiting some further 10-15 minutes I went to the bar to pay. For a booking on a Sunday afternoon where the restaurant was at about 50% capacity and lastly, considering the price range is mid-higher end, it was disappointing. If you are prepared to put up with this, for nice food, then go for it!

Had a lovely meal. We went for seniors menu but no vegetarian dish on menu. I was allowed to have the roast veg tagliatelle which was lovely. Had the sticky toffee pudding and custard which was also really nice. Unlimited tea or coffee. Very quiet at lunch time

We visited the Smokey cow yesterday and had a table booked for 6 people the food and drink was excellent, really enjoyed it! Are waitress was Charlotte and she was very welcoming and we had a great service from her! Definitely would recommend eating here and we will definitely be returning!

Really lovely pub amazing food cooked by luke the head chef best steak we have had in ages. We definitely recommend.

I wish we lived closer to this little gem. Food was excellent. Will go back even with the drive. hopefully nicer weather to use the lovely garden play area.

What a lovely find. The 3 adults and two children in our group had a lovely here on Sunday, good food, very pleasant staff, good drink, fair prices and generous portions. A lovely experience, many thanks!

We (4 of us) had an excellent meal off the festive menu yesterday. The food and service was superb and we will be returning in the New Year to sample the normal menu.

Disgusted to be asked to complete a review after last nights chaos. Booked a table for 3 on October 24th for evening of December 2nd. Booking fully confirmed by email shortly after. The fast forward to the evening and I left my office in Cannock to meet family for the meal. On walking in. The place was deserted apart from one person behind the bar and a table if 2 drinking. The staff member was surprised to see me and also challenged that I had a booking as the kitchen staff had walked out two weeks earlier and no food was being served. I did show him the email with confirmation of the booking, to be fair the chap did apologise, but didn’t stop my displeasure at not being contact after travelling 30 miles to get there. Just a sorry and goodbye, not even offered a drink. Was too busy rolling a cigarette to care.

Visited the smokey cow for the first time yesterday. The place itself very lovely decor and environment. Lovely waitress replaced with a lovely guy to finish our service during our meal. Food was ace and thoroughly enjoyed by all. Will definitely be returning
