Lovely meal Best chips ever. And pie's to die for so filling no room for a pudding...All the staff so cheerful and very friendly.

Very enjoyable evening sat by the log fire. We had starters, mains and coffees - all very good. Our two servers were very attentive, polite and efficient. Would recommend.

Lovely location and great food, had the gammon and mother in law had the vegetarian Henry, the desserts were all lovely. Staff very professional and attentive but the room was a bit cold which was a shame but would try it again.

Fantastic Sunday dinner, would highly recommend. My only comment was the room we were sitting in at the back of the restaurant was cold, it would have been lovely if the log fire had been lit.

A lovely friendly pub , the staff were lovely .Good choice of homemade food, I would definitely recommend the Shepherds rest pie ,so delicious .My husband enjoyed the beef and onion pie too,oh and their Shepherds larger was really nice . We will definitely be coming back again xx

Had a really lovely meal on New Year’s Eve. The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely eat here again and recommend to family and friends.

We had a long promised trip to The Shepherds Rest Inn on Boxing Day for a Bank Holiday drive out and we were not disappointed. Such a wonderful pub, warm and welcoming and a lovely atmoshpere throughout. We sat in the 'pub side' which was as cosy as you could wish and enjoyed a long and leisurely lunch and drink. Food was excellent, really excellent and the service was just great. A shout out to all the staff and I really should have registered names, but the young gentleman who seated us and served drinks and food, with recommendations (the pie over the burger!), had a lovely approach and was exceptional. A credit to the team and the pub in general. Thank you so much.

What a little gem the shepherds rest is.. we haven’t been for about 15 years.. and randomly decided to try it the week before Christmas! OMG the food is absolutey delicious and the staff are so lovely.. it was that good I brought my mum and dad back the following Sunday! We’re now arguing over what’s best.. the beef pie or the cheese & onion pie! Well worth a visit! 10/10 xx

During Christmas week every year, about 50 of us do a big hike around the Calder valley, normally going to the Pack Horse at Widdop) for lunch. This year however, we decided to go to the other side of the valley and haave lunch at The Shepherds Rest. I cant express how beautifully they accomodated fort us. The food, the service, the atmosphere was perfect. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Nice starters (Meatballs and Prawns) Mains Sheppards Pie there was way to much mash on a watery lamb shank stew, not much meat. Braised beef pie….. tonnes of salt in the filling, the pastry was excellent, get the seasoning correct and that pie would look and taste amazing! Burger…. Burger patty wasn’t seared… patty looked poached!!

I, two guests and and my Labrador, had lunch on 13th December. One of my friends is in a wheelchair but I particularly wanted her to meet my dog so was anxious we would be seated in the right part of the pub. We had an ideally placed table for all of us. The staff were thoughtful about opening doors to allow the wheelchair access, and all were friendly to my dog. She was given a big bowl of fresh water . My only complaint about the food is that I ate too much. One of my friends is vegetarian and she got the right pie. Service was friendly and attentive though the pub was full and busy. The bill was very reasonable for three courses each.

We had an excellent meal last Sunday. We shared the terrine from the specials board, had a roast each and a pudding each. All of it was excellent and we, and our dog, were made to feel very welcome. Definitely recommend for food and service and the view from the restaurant area is beautiful.

The Shepherd's Rest is without any doubt the best pub I've been to in a couple of decades. A real traditional Yorkshire pub with really excellent food, service and atmosphere topped up by the most amazing views over the Calder Valley and, for hikers like us, the perfect spot for walking to Stoodley Pike. Bar manager James and bar staff Jesse deserve special mention. They were brilliant on every front: polite, enthusiastic, communicative and efficient. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Can't ask for more than that. Our only regret is that it's over an hour's drive away, so I'd make a request that you expand to doing B&B too as you'd be the go-to base for hikers in that valley. Have already mapped out more walks starting/ending at the Shepherd's Rest, whiich I've now recommended to many friends. Thanks again for a lovely day: can't wait to come back!

Nice Thursday burger offer, had already seen the menu online before travelling, Was amazed at the quality and quantity of the sharing platter, both the chicken and beef burgers were delicious, the chicken tenders and macaroni cheese bites were delicious, plenty of chips covered in bacon bits and cheese sauce, we couldn’t eat them all. The only minor negative was it was cold inside the building but despite that we’re already planning on returning next week. P.s the burger buns could do with being toasted slightly.
