We booked a table for two at short notice. On arrival it was clear that the restaurant was extremely busy and clearly very popular for a Sunday lunch. On our last visit we were given a table in the elevated area of the conservatory but on this occasion we were shown to our table at the far end of the restaurant which is a little more rustic and has more of a bar feeling than the main dining area. However given our booking at short notice it was maybe the only option. We ordered the Sunday roast choice but unfortunately the lamb was not as available as they had run out which I guess was the most popular choice of the day. We therefore ordered the beef and the pork with a side of cauliflower cheese. When the food arrived it was well presented with a side of seasonal vegetables and the meat was well cooked and moist accompanied by mashed and roast potatoes. It really makes a change to eat roasted potatoes that do not taste as though they have come from a pre cooked frozen pack and straight into a deep fat fryer which many establishments nowadays feel that it is acceptable to serve . For pudding, given the large portion of the main course, we decided to share the apple and rhubarb crumble but we had to settle for ice cream as they had run out of custard. However despite this the pudding was very good. Overall a very good experience and the service was provided by attentive and courteous staff. A very welcoming place that is thankfully dog friendly and we we definitely return.

The goats cheese starter was absolutley fantastic and the beef and onion pie was gorgeous proper high quality pub food and well worth the price which is reasonable to begin with.

Went to the quiz last night and really enjoyed it! Had a nice meal and a few drinks and the place was buzzing! Saw a few friends and altogether a great night! Food was great!

Went for a meal last night (Sunday 15th March 2026) at the Shepherd's Rest. They'd clearly had a busy day (Mothering Sunday!) but the staff were polite and very friendly. We both had the salmon - cooked to perfection with Hasselback potatoes and greens/spinach - simple but just delicious. We will certainly be returning, thank you.

Phoned them a week before to see if they could accommodate about 25 people for a Birthday meal. We had a room to ourselves, dog friendly, excellent food and service throughout the evening. Many thanks

Great traditional pub with an excellent selection of classic pub favourites. The Sunday lunches are fantastic, and the steak pie is a real family favourite. The staff are lovely and attentive, making sure everyone is well looked after even when the pub is very busy. We’re already looking forward to our next visit.

Food was lovely like always, they do an amazing cheese pie and the chips are always delicious, definitely recommend. The staff are always so friendly and polite. Such a lovely pub.

Wonderful pub and restaurant. Really friendly and attentive staff. Food was delicious, Sunday roast, we only had the smaller serving but this was enough with a fabulous dessert too. Excellent, we have booked a lunch after our wedding here now too.

We went yesterday 22/02, we were a party of 5 people. The place was very busy and didn't expect to be served immediately but we waited almost 45 minutes for our food to be served. The food was good but the wait was too long. We then had to ask someone to clear our plates as we had finished our food and waited about 15 minutes for our plates to be cleared. We were a bit hesitant ordering desserts because of the wait for our main course but we did and again waited about 25 minutes for the desserts to arrive. I have to praise the staff because they seemed run off there feet but they were really pleasant and friendly. I have marked the service low because of the long wait and not because of the staff.

Our favourite pub in the area for tea out and a few beers. And again we weren’t disappointed. Pies to die for. My husband’s appetite is not as good as it used to be, but again nothing left on his plate. Service excellent, staff attentive and respectful. Beer well looked after.

Excellent food! Stumbled across this pub as somewhere to eat before a gig in Todmorden. The Sunday Roast did not disappoint and was huge! A very cosy country pub. Will definitely pay another visit

Last night we held my 80th birthday party at the Shepherd's Rest and the food was great as was the service. Thank you all for your assistance in making this a night to remember.

We only discovered here last summer and since then we have been several times. The location is beautiful and the pub itself is so cozy and welcoming. Every time we have visited the staff have been so lovely and helpful and the food is amazing.

Lovely, friendly country pub. Staff were very welcoming and the service was just right. Welcomed our fur baby and didn’t mind muddy paws. The braised beef and pinion pie was the best pie I’ve ever eaten , the veg that came with it was fresh and tasty. Need to return to try the cheese and onion pie. Portion size was generous, but unfortunately didn’t have room to try dessert. I highly recommend!

A lovely meal was had by myself and husband. Its always a pleasure to enjoy an evening at Shepherds Rest. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the place is inviting and has a lovely atmosphere and even if the staff are are busy, they always acknowledge you are there and get to you as soon as they can. The food is delicious, served hot and looking very appetising. Good value for money and we always enjoy going.
