Wigan Warrior

Owned by a millionaire, i doubt it! This venue is owned by a leading chain, who believe in tasty, quick food with excellent service

Wiggin Tree – Wigan

On Thursday 6th February 4 of us had a stunning meal. I choose from the special menu: stuffed peppers, then the tuna. These were first class. The waiter was brilliant and the espresso perfect. The house red was very good value for money and we all had a good evening. The other guests choose from the large (perhaps too large) menu and all were delighted. Thank you!

Upset And Honest Customer

Was hear on 8th February 2008, for my fathers 60th birthday, arrived booked for 7pm, took until 7.40pm to be shown to the table. Starters where prompt, however as the main courses arrived this is where it all fell apart, food was lukewarm, asked 3 separate staff for steak knives, these arrived 15mins later after all the vegetables had been eaten. Complained to the manager and one of the steaks where mainly grizzle this was sent back. By the time the knives arrived my steak was cold and this was replaced, hence I ate on my own with all the family watching me. Manager was apologetic to my mother and then had the ordasity to present us with a full bill less one steak that had been returned. My brother attempted to discuss this with the manager, whom informed him he was sick of his mouth. Hence we left and did not pay any of the bill. Left contact details and we are looking forward to there letter in a timely fashion, which if the evening was anything to judge will be late and lukewarm. WONT BE RETURNING. I suggest you give it a wide berth, if is chaos gone mad and the staff and especially the management leave much to be desired. The staff do not even ask if the meal is alright or have you enjoyed your evening. Basic stuff

Oh dear, what happened! Contrary to a recent wonderful experience, last week we (16 of us) visited the Olive Garden for lunch - a special £6.99 menu. It was AWFUL. The Cannaloni looked like a giant croquette, the pasta was hard, the cheese and herb filling was tasteless and, worst of all, it was covered in a breadcrumb-like substance and seemed to have been deep fried. There was no 'cheesey' white sauce either, just some chopped tomatoes. Whilst for £6.99 one does not expect a feast, we were all very disappointed and the experience has unfortunately done nothing to encourage a return trip. Also, the starters (mostly soup or Bruschetta) took three quarters of an hour to arrive!) - and I think we were the only people eating in the whole restaurant at the time. All very sad.

The Owls of Standish is possibly the best place to go for a meal in the whole of the North West, serving the highest quality of meals, at a low price. There is a three course menu, three courses for only around £8 sounds like a good deal to me, but when its as high quality as the Owls chefs produce, its more than worth the money. With massive amounts of space for big groups for birthday parties etc, it makes it the best place to eat out in Standish, in the evening. There's even a bar area for bar meals, at lunchtimes and evenings.

When a millionaire renovates a very good family pub into a Country Club....the prices rocket beyond reason and the food becomes second to the decor and tastes bland. Wiggin Tree, Mulberry and the Rigby Arms fall into this category.

Definitely the best Indian restaurant around!!! Everywhere else just seems rubbish after this. Tuesday nights are £6 all you can eat buffet - highly recommended!! Not bad prices either!

6 of us went for Sunday lunch - 99% absolutely faultless - £7.95 for two courses and £9.95 for three and it was beautiful food - chips to die for - salmon as moist and tender as anything - creme brulee yum! Very friendly and attentive staff. Only one niggle - they took a while to bring the vegetables to the table and we were all so hungry that we had eaten 80% of our food before it came but other than that absolutely devine and great value for money - I believe it is only £5.95 for two courses in the week as well so we will be back !!!

The food was very poor and the staff were rude to us. All in all this was a very poor restaurant - what a waste of money!

I visited the Olive Garden today for the first time. The food, service, décor and ambience were all excellent. I chose Linguini Olive Garden which included the largest portion of divine scallops I've ever been served. Why I bother to write this recommendation, my first ever, is that they were cooked with chilli which I don't normally eat and I found them hot for my taste, although my friend loved them. The waiter offered at least three times to cook them again for me without chilli - even though it was my fault for not having read the menu correctly! I did not accept this offer which I thought was well beyond the call of duty. The French chef then came out to have a word with me - en francais - to make sure I was happy. Needless to say, I will be back - and bring all my friends...

Good food, average service and a pleasant ambience. A little bit pricey though. All told, I'd go back - but it's not somewhere I'd rave about.

We have been to this restaurant on numerous occasions and always found it to be enjoyable food in a beautiful part of alongshore, it was our preferred destination for a bar snack. We had paid for our meal before receiving it a fish and chips (big portion very fresh) and a steak baguette, on order they asked Q. How we would like it cooked - A. Medium rare. It came out and was distinctly grey, very greasy (it soaked the bread completely) with with an odd flavour like it had been boiled in a cool pan. We highlighted this to the staff who tried to fob us off "that, that was how it came". The manager who had been cooking hid in the kitchen and offered us half the price of the sandwich back. This place has gone backwards, old menus falling to bits with overwritten prices, the place looking tatty. I could see in the kitchen when we paid, a shelf with piles of tinned custard on. I dont know if it was the chefs day off but it is a great shame that one of the locals best kept secrets for good homely cooking is now rated POOR.

The service was terrible. The waiter obviously needed her nappy changed. The price of the meal was far too expensive, considering what unprofessional, rude, and downright immature waiting staff who served it. As I left, the waiter had that gall to ask for a tip. My tip to whoever reads this review, is to steer clear of this poor excuse for a restaurant.

This is the worst place I have ever been to. Nobody to see us to a table, 15 minutes before menu arrived - 10 minutes before they asked us what we wanted to drink. FOOD - Sirloin Steak strips - the meat was off boiled then braised to give a fresh texture BBQ Ribs - DRY Oven baked spudd - Bolied and Cold Garlic Bread - RAW not baked or even toasted# Chicken - Okay We did not eat anything told the waiter we wanted the bill for the drinks only as we could not eat the food. He then was abusive and called MR BOSS man Carlos.. He threatened to call the police and demanded we payed. Well as We did not consume any food why should we pay - The customer is always right - hence we did not pay. Thsi is the worst ever restaurant and customer service does not exsist!!

The waiter was a spoiled brat. He did nothing but complain and threaten me all evening. If you want good Italian cooking, go somewhere that hires people who've grown out of nappies.
