Francine’s Restaurant and Coffee House – Windermere
The beautiful South Lakes towns of Windermere and Bowness both sit on the shore of Lake Windermere, where you will find a delightful range of tea rooms, hotels and restaurants. At Lake Windermere you will find a wide range of watersports, or you can just relax and watch the wildlife.

Francine’s Restaurant and Coffee House – WindermereWe had a meal last Saturday in your restaurant in Windermere the meal was delicious from beginning to end . For my main meal I had belly pork with black pudding but a cant remember the name of the meal I am now back home and would love to try this meal again could you please forward me the name of this very enjoyable meal.
Porto Restaurant – WindermereI came a few years ago and must say its up there with the best. Food was delicious staff all friendly. I'm looking at coming to dine on Saturday if they have the availability. Would highly recommend!
Cantina – WindermereA good place to meet near the Station in Windermere. The café is within the Lakeland shop behind Booths. Very popular as the queue system affirms. Service was very good as was both our soups. I ordered a humus and pepper sandwhich which had a very unpleasant taste. I ate it anyway as I was starving. The waitress did a good job finding out that the offending flavour was truffle oil. Why on earth would you put such a strong taste on a sarnie and not mention it on the menu. Due to the professional manner of the waitress going to find out I would still recommend this café.
First Floor Cafe at Lakeland – WindermereI think this is ‘80 Days’ as in ‘Around The World In…’ and what you get here is an international menu drawing inspiration from around the globe. We found this place perchance after a last-minute decision to spend New Year in the Lakes. We were lucky enough to get a table here for their New Year’s Eve gala dinner which included a welcome drink, a multi-course menu and live entertainment. There’s an open kitchen so you can watch the chefs in action as you dine.
80 Days – WindermereRaining heavily on a winter night in Bowness and we asked a passing cab driver where was the best Indian restaurant in the area. He recommended Mela on Ash Street and we were not disappointed. I think it’s a fairly new place and has a handful of tables downstairs and a handful more upstairs. We got a table for 4 upstairs which has the better atmosphere for me. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and the service was efficient and friendly. Cosy an intimate and all the better for it.
Mela Spice Fusion – WindermereWe stayed at the Old England Hotel in Bowness for New Year and on a hunt for a local pub found the Albert nearby. Popped in for a drink one evening and the atmosphere was great and the food arriving looked really appetising. Tried a couple of other pubs but they were not a patch on the Albert so we returned here for a late lunch the next day after a walk. Lots of choice on the menu and we thoroughly enjoyed and can highly recommend if you are in the area.
The Albert – WindermereLove love love this restaurant, food is gorgeous, great staff, very welcoming, fab menu, just can't rate it enough. This is also where my fiance chose to propose, the lovely manager gave us free champagne, can't wait to visit again next monday or tuesday when we are back in Windermere x x
Villa Positano – WindermereVisited this new restauarnt last week while on holiday in Windermere with my Wife. We had a magical eveing, very romantic great food and fantastic wine. The service was attentive but not intrusive. The decor is very tasteful, the only negative was we had to wait for a table but it was well worth it and will defiantly be going back when in the area.
Caffe Riva – WindermereAmazing food here at Porto Bowness. The dessert was the best ever...sticky toffee souffle.
Porto Restaurant – WindermereEnjoy a wonderful couple of days here. Great spot in the heart of Bowness. Will return and recommend.
Angel Inn – WindermereEaten there 6 times.Owner very hands on.All staff very smart / very attentive.Food always very well presented and of an excellent standard.Have recommended to many people, all have been very impressed.Drinks a bit on the dearer side but food / atmosphere more than makes up for it .Well worth a visit when in the Lakes but recommend booking first.
Cantina – WindermereOver the last 5 years we have been regular customers until tonight's experience which I have reported on trip adviser and intend to report to the National Tourist board. Incredibly bad rude service and cold food and when I rang later to discuss in was told I do not want to talk to you and the rude man hung up.
Villa Positano – WindermereStunning food! Wow! Will certainly be headed back soon. Lovely staff also.
Villa Positano – WindermereAfter the sat nav urged us along a terrifyingly undulating, not to mention winding, one-vehicle track which fortunately had nothing coming the other way, we came out onto the main road that houses The Brown Horse Inn. Quiet in the afternoon with only about ten people dotted about, I ordered a Guinness and a wine for my friend. The Guinness, it turned out was not of the best quality and had a chemical taint almost like the pipes had been cleaned but not rinsed thoroughly. This was soon replaced though, with a local bitter and I'm sad to say I can't remember the name of it now because it was truly excellent. Fruity with an almost elderflower finish I was distraught about the fact that I was driving and could only have the one for as the sun shone on the front terrace I could happily have stayed the whole day and drank the place dry! We both ordered the Gammon and fries from a fairly extensive lunch menu, which came with both a fried egg and pineapple. (I never came to terms with pineapple and gammon!) The fruit was dry and left no taint on the meat so that was okay. The Gammon itself was a delight and accompanied by home cut fries and a salad went down an absolute treat! For pudding I had some simple vanilla ice cream which was lovely while my friend had the "re-designed cheesecake" This turned out to be a pudding for about ten people but she rallied bravely and I have to say I was quite proud of her accomplishment. The young man who served us was incredibly friendly, attentive and helpful (Particularly about the Guinness) and I have to say that as an eatery I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending The Brown Horse to anyone passing or planing a trip to the lakes!
Brown Horse Inn – WindermereBooked 2 nights 16th June for 4 people. We saw a offer for food £10 for 2 courses on your site and all we had to do was to mention your site Sugar Vine, so we rang up to book for the 2 nights for the offer, whoever the man was that we spoke to said that would be fine but we had to eat between 6 pm and 7pm and the menu would on a less to chose from menu. This was confirmed by him. On arrival there was a menu on the bed with what was on the £10 menu. We went downstairs and asked what time they wanted us for the meal, the reply was there was no offer and that sugarvine had no right to give that information, also they said nobody at the hotel had the conversation with us confirming the meal deals. We said that there was a folder on the bed with offers on, so after a bit tussle they allowed us the offer but changed the menu to smaller. The second night they would not allow any offer , we said that is not on as we spoke to someone at the hotel and we would not be going again, as this was calling us liars and the conversation did not take place. Then the gentleman swore at us and told us not to come back. So the customer service is out of the window. As if the offer was still not on this should have been said on the telephone. Thank you Susan
Brown Horse Inn – WindermereGlad we booked in advance, even for a Sunday evening. Superb menu, excellent quality food with nice choice of specials. Great atmosphere and 1st class service. Looking forward to a repeat visit next month!
Villa Positano – WindermereVisited there on Friday 23 May for the first time and found it to be of an exceptional standard. The staff were very helpful and efficient. The food was top quality and cooked from fresh and reasonably priced. We even recommended it to couple who were reading the menu outside. We will definitely be calling back in there soon.
