31 Castlegate is one of our favourite restaurants. The service is friendly but professional, it’s a lovely small restaurant but the tables are well spaced. But most importantly, the food is outstanding. On our most recent trip we chose from the good value fixed price menu. I had a lovely salmon and smoked haddock fishcake, my husband an excellent crispy pork. My main course risotto was perfectly cooked and an excellent combination of flavours. My husband was also wowed by his confit duck with spinach and dauphinoise potatoes. Great selection of wines too. Highly recommended.

Came here just before New Year Lovely meal and service. Social distancing and other Covid measures in place. Would return.

I come here with my little girl and food is always really nice and hot, always goes out of the way and make us feel welcome every time.

As always, good food, not overly priced and served by helpful and interested staff.

Food is amazing, staff are very welcoming, we had to have a take away on New Year’s Eve bcos of Covid & the food was as good as ever , we will highly recommend this restaurant.

Amazing food, massive portions and really good atmosphere. Staff are always around to help, asked for the rest of our food to takeaway which was no issue and with us in 5 mins. Will definitely be back again.

Amazing as ever. Food and service excellent. This place is my all time favourite Chinese restaurant. I have been brought up on Maxi’s back in the days when they had a restaurant in leeds and I can firmly say that they have stuck to their high standards and are the only authentic place I would ever go for Chinese food in Yorkshire. Keep up the excellent work .

The food was brilliant, service was excellent and very good value as we had a lot of food. Hard to judge atmosphere because of social distancing measures in place which were very well delivered including track and trace details and temperature tests on arrival. I really enjoyed the meal as did my family and Maxis is my favourite Chinese restaurant so I would always recommend it. Well done and Happy Christmas.

Enjoyed a lovely meal with my wife once again at our favourite York restaurant. The ambiance was perfect and food quality excellent as always. Service was exemplary.

Great food, really good service and good Covid standards. I love the food here but they really impressed with the overall package in weird times so well done Maxis , I really enjoyed my lunch and will be back, have a really happy Christmas.

First meal out for a while, the food and service were excellent, the atmosphere was understandably a little subdued, with only 3 or 4 other couples in the restaurant, but we still enjoyed a lovely meal , the service was excellent. Our only minor gripe was that the dining area was a bit on the cold side.

Amazing food and great value for money!

Can highly recommend . . I had the lamb and sticky toffee pudding ...... which was cooked to order and tasted great ... The menu catered for all tastes and was very varied . I was particular impressed with the vegetarian menu ... Service was exceptional and I could not fault the restaurant in anyway . This was my first visit but definitely not the last . Thank you for a lovely meal ...
