We had missed Maxis so much due to the present Covid situation. However we returned on August 7 th, after booking online. It is all very well organised, temperature taken on entry, staff all very pleasant and helpful. Tables all spaced out. Staff all wearing masks. We felt very comfortable and at ease. The food was as we expected, delicious, so to those people out there that are nervous about venturing out for the first time, go for a meal at Maxis Nether Poppelton, York. Also, Track and Trace is in place. Good luck Maxis, see you again soon.

Went for a birthday meal. I’ve only been to the Leeds restaurant so the first time here. Food is still good as ever like the last time I got it. Service was a little slow but nothing major. Be coming back soon

Consistently good food in an atmospheric old building conveniently placed for York city centre. Attentive but unobtrusive service completes a very pleasant experience

took advantage of the eat out to help out scheme to have lunch with our friends we all had the 3 course special and were relly delighted with the food we also were impressed with the layout of tables and that the staff made us welcome and confident

My wife and I had an excellent meal at 31 Castlegate. We were very well looked after and made to feel very welcome. We felt very safe in the restaurant. The food was delicious and special, and we really enjoyed the experience of eating out again. This was the first time we had eaten out since March.

We were visitors to York for one night. York seems to have plenty of cafes for cake & coffee but we wanted a lovely evening meal for our first night away after lock down . Didnt want to risk finding one by chance on a Friday night so booked Castlegate. Good welcome,menu & food. Tables well spaced. Enjoyed our evening, would return.

We had our first post lockdown meal here Wednesday evening & it was well worth waiting for, we did eat fairly early in the evening so had the restaurant to ourselves for a while. The food was delicious & we managed to cram in a dessert too even though we were pretty full! The service was excellent too, we will be back very soon.

After visiting York for my husbands 60th Birthday we went to Maxis for dinner. Lovely food friendly staff will definitely be back in April when we visit York. Highly recommend

We arrived at Maxis having made a booking on line ,and recieving a email reminder days later , only to find they had no knowledge of the booking ! The service is slow ,but the food is good.

Arrived to find our internet booking wasnt observed by restaurant . They did have a spare table thankfully because we had arranged a family get together. Service achingly slow, we had to get staffs attention alot to keep the meal moving. Food good.. Decor tired ...But good value for money

We booked a table but when we arrived they had no booking on the list. Service was very slow, other tables were getting served before us even though we were seated before them. We asked 3 times to take our order and then had to ask again were our food was twice. Food was lovely just a shame service was shocking!

Big party, lots of different likes, everyone enjoyed the meal. Good service.

Party of 9 + 12 month old boy . Had booked for 8 . Table found - no problem . Food great , service great - so friendly and accommodating , the boy even rode on the lazy susan when all was cleared , all in all superb .

Went here for a family meal for sons birthday and had a lovely time. Staff excellent especially the two gentlemen with glasses sorry didn’t get your names. One I think was the manager and the other waiter was an older man who was lovely. The food was very good and very plentiful. Very reasonable prices too. Will definitely go again.

Food/service excellent. We had the meal for two, only comment was the soup - chicken/crab had very little meat, the manager replaced our soups but it was not much different !
