Oscars is always a pleasant place to eat and the food and wine is always at reasonable prices. very enjoyable

The best place and the best Plaice.!! Oh Boy!

We have been visiting the Go Down for many years, the food and service is always excellent and probably the only restaurant my husband will go to in York. It was so good that we got married 3 years ago today (9th February) and asked Peter and Penelope if they would 'do' our wedding reception. We had a wonderful meal for 30 guests and they still talk about it now. Can't get better than that. Unfortunately cannot go tonight to celebrate but will be back there next week for my birthday.

Something a little odd about the reviews here. The Living Room clearly not by any stretch the 'best restaurant in York' - it would say so itself (the possible best is J Baker's BTW). It should be a cheap(ish) corporate place. Food is mainly adequate but can be poor eg over cooked veg seems a speciality. Drinks should be treated with care - any place that uses open 'old' Champagne in cocktails must be viewed with suspicion.

great coffee, lunch, ambiance and company!!

My family and I had Xmas lunch here this year. 25/12/10. We were really looking forward to it but the whole experience was terrible. Staff were rude and kept us waiting in the car park before allowing us to go in. There was a mix up with the starters, some of us were served and others not. The food was only average. What this venue needs to take on board is that Xmas lunch is an experience and this was sadly lacking. Shall not be returning

We ate at the Sangthai Restaurant a few weeks ago. The service was great ....... the surroundings beautiful .....and the food was wonderful. If you like Thai cuisine - you will love it!

Fab, trendy place, just have chilled out night.

We were staying at the Cedar Court Hotel round the corner from this restaurant and stumbled upon by chance. It was lively and had lovely decor. The food was tasty and there was lots of it. The meal was personalised to our tastes, they added extra chillis! The staff were friendly and very efficient, if we're ever in York again we would eat at Akbars.

I visited Nineteen in Aug 2010 to celebrate my 40th. It delivered exactly what we were looking for somewhere that served good interesting food but not too pretentious a menu; the food, atmosphere and service were spot on. It has a high end bistro feel about it. The service is just as we like it friendly and not too formal, but very professional. It is fairly small but did accommodate 9 of us on a Saturday night with out any problems. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will go back again. Some of the friends who dined with us, have already booked to go again.

The main reason for visiting this restaurant, to celebrate my parents' anniversary, was the fact that they advertise that they specialise in coelic-gluten free and food intolerances. What a let down, the soup thankfully was gluten free but there was no gluten free bread to accompany it. When we enquired why we were told by the waiter that they one got about one gluten free customer in per month so it wasn't worth having any in!! How easy is it to keep a loaf in the freezer? The specialism did not run to gluten free bread crumbs of course so the fish cakes weren't able to be provided for their gluten free customers. We were given bread to dip in oil and the alternative for their gluten free customers was olives, which not everyone likes. Olives were also provided with the soup as a substitute for the bread. The waiter was not very customer friendly when we arrived but he did warm up during the evening. The waitress made up for him though as she was very accommodating. The food was good but nothing special and the choice for vegetarians, of which there were two in our party was very limited.

If you want big portions, a unique atmosphere and friendly service in the middle of York, then this is the place for you!! A wide range of tasty Italian dishes will ensure that you will go home happy and the surroundings are quirky enough so that you enjoy a relaxing at ease evening feel. The seafood pizza is a must!!

Delrio's has an intimate feeling of a restaurant which has cornered its own niche in the market. Its delicious mediterranean cuisine is packed with great ideas and superb tastes with great variety for differing pallets . It is an ideal venue situated at the top of Micklegate and a great place for a group meal secluded away from the passers by.

Lovely little restaurant with very friendly attentive staff. The food was served quickly and was delicious (I would recommend the black pudding scotch egg starter!), although the main courses were a little salty. One point to consider is that the sugarvine offer (2 for 1 main courses) is no longer available, even though it is still on the website. Otherwise, great value, great restaurant, I would recommend a visit!
