31 Castlegate Restaurant – Yorkmyself and 5 friends ate at 31 Castlegate this week, as it had been my birthday, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the ambience, the food was excellent and the service was impeccable. A good night was had by all and we will certainly be eating there again
31 Castlegate Restaurant – YorkWe are frequent visitors to York and find getting a decent meal there difficult. Now we have found Tassili our problem has been solved. The food is delicious, extremely rich and very filling. It is also very well cooked and presented. The decor is authentically Islamic with contemporary features. The service was efficient and friendly and our four year old was very well catered for. The staff were happy to prepare simpler versions of the menu which she enjoyed eating. By the way, you may like to sample the mint tea, which is even better as an accompaniment than wine. It was made with rose water, was extremely refreshing and had a complex and satisfying taste.
Tassili – YorkWhat a find! Thanks to the Yorkshire Riding Mag. A brilliant lunch: steak pie really enjoyable, pork fillet mouthwatering!! Recommend anyone to try this small Inn with it's country charm.
The Moors Inn – YorkTo start with, I have no idea why there are no feedbacks on this forum for this restaurant. My girlfriend and myself visited York and had a dilemma as to where to eat. We had walked past this place a few times during the day but had others in mind and others recommended. We looked at the menu but thought nothing much more. Anyway time pressed on and we wanted somewhere to eat yet not be pressured by over intellectual eateries which simply just annoy. This place was perfect!!! The staff were caring but also left you to enjoy your meal without constantly mithering THEIR need of reassurance that the food they have delivered is ok. If it wasn't, id say. The food here was, as it says on the menu homemade, perfect, and extremely satisfying to the best of palettes. At an affordable price for excellent food, great staff and a pleasant atmosphere. For this reason I loved this place and would recommend it to all.
Marzano Italian and Grill – YorkLived in York for a long time just visited Tassili on a recommendation by a friend. What can I say the food was sublime with a vast array of subtle flavourings which rested easily on the palette, the portions were generous, the wonderful chicken soup starter was a meal in itself. The wine list is small but the bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon we had was very complimentary to the lamb dish. Service was exemplary, well worth a visit.
Tassili – YorkAlthough we live only a short distance from Luigis it is still our favourite Italian! I would defy anyone to tell me they can get better garlic bread elsewhere! We eat here at least once a month and always receive a warm welcome (we are so regular that the waiter brings our usual wine without asking)!!! We spent New Year's Eve here and although apprehensive as we had never seen New Year in at a restaurant before, we were not disappointed. The food, atmosphere and fireworks etc made it a very special evening. Well done to the staff and not forgetting the chefs who cook splendid food.See you this evening for our usual early bird.
Luigis Restaurant – York45 minutes drive from my home but my goodness it was worth the trip . A beautiful setting and when you enter the pub its decor is warm and clean ,the fire was lit and we were welcomed by very friendly staff . Our drinks were served and we were shown to our table to look at the menu . We were a party of 10 and it was a special birthday celebration so we had high expectations . From the freshly baked bread to the dessert every course was fab ,every person in the party had a great starter and main course ,not one thing could be faulted ,which in my experience is unusual. My rib eye steak was cooked to perfection and tasted delicious .We were so full but couldn't resist the assiette of desserts which was served with 10 spoons !!! I cannot recommend the Carpenters Arms highly enough , a very special place .
Carpenters Arms – YorkWe went to this restaurant on a rare evening out thanks to a babysitting opportunity and it was well worth the visit. Staff were lovely but leave you alone enough not to feel crowded, menu varied and the meal fantastic. Wine very reasonably priced. I had passed this place often and hardly noticed it as it is very understated but is a real find. Strongly recommend it.
Tassili – Yorkwe brought my mum for 65th birthday it was absolutely amazing the restaurant staff and the service and the food. Can't wait to come again Daxa
Crab And Lobster Restaurant – Yorkwe were the only people in the restaurant so ambience was bad. wine - practically no choice, we had 2 different bottles, both horrid. Starters too small for cost. main meal too expensive for what they are. one of us ordered chicken with carrots onions and olives. there were 46 olives on the plate!!! will not be returning
Tassili – YorkOMG fantastic food, would definitely recommend it. a real treat at a great price :)
Maxis – Yorksuperb food and service good value for money nice restaurant feeling and super wood burner fire going would defo visit again
Gulshan Tandoori Restaurant – YorkWe had a great meal at Tassili on 16/9/11. We found the food excellent and the service even better. We would second everything in Judith and Ozzie reviews.
Tassili – YorkJust outside the city walls and away from the tourist traps Tassili is a real gem. The menu has a mouth watering array of North African dishes which are even better than their descriptions and the service is relaxed and professional. We are envious of the locals..
Tassili – YorkHad a lovely Indian on Sunday night, so hot
Parvin – YorkLast stayed here about 15 years ago and it was nice to get back to this beautiful part of the world. Helmsley is a pretty little market town and the Black Swan is an ancient pub that overlooks the main square. It now has a lot more rooms than before and we stayed in one of the more modern ones overlooking the pretty garden. The restaurant is excellent with great service, good food, plenty of space and a good wine list. They also have a new tearoom which wasn’t there before.
Black Swan Hotel – YorkRestaurant visited with a 2 for 1 voucher for their Sunday Roast offer, which is actually a bit of a tourist con. Contrary to the illustration on the voucher the actual food on the plate for £10 was a slice of rare beef (which was very good) a dried out Yorkshire pudding and three 'seen better days' roast potatoes and no other vegetables. The service was almost adequate, but dismissive when points about the menu were raised and the drinks service was appalling. The setting looks nice; decent brickwork and typically York old building stripped bare, but nonetheless uncomfortable seating. Much better choices of places to eat exist on this street. I for one will not be returning.
