Kapadokya – YorkI must say I am sorely disappointed with this place! I was refused entry by the bouncers one Thursday at 8 pm despite making a reservation. After discussion, we were eventually allowed in but my friend was stopped after I entered to allowed a bunch of men out. We checked at the Restaurant section and to confirm the reservation but we left stranded by an ignorant waiter. However, once we were seated, the service by our waiter, Michael was brilliant. The food was mediocre but I was so pleased about the service I tipped him £5.00 (for a £25 bill).
Missoula – YorkEating at Red Chilli was a truly great experience! As a party of 3, they didn't take bookings and we went on a saturday evening-we had to wait an hour for a table but happily enjoyed a drink round the corner. The service is a little haphazard and not typically attentive but the staff were friendly and happy to help. The prawn toast beat anything i have had before and the choices were amazing. I'd recommend Red Chilli to any fans of Chinese food or for people wanting a different dining experience-well worth it.
Red Chilli – YorkNot impressed! My husband booked 3 days in advance to get a 9pm Sat booking for a birthday meal for 2. However, on arrival were told that because a large party (who hadn't booked in)were late eating their meal they couldn't accommodate us - no phone call to cancel or anything. Called manager as staff suggested, to be offerred a free bottle of wine -I DON"T THINK SO!!! So, book if you don't mind risk of cancellation because larger parties take priority here!!!!
Nineteen Restaurant – YorkThis place is a real find. Strikingly contemporary decor in the restaurant section gives a hint to the style and flair in the kitchen. The food was excellent. A simple salmon starter was absolutely delightful - who would have thought a cook could wring anything surprising out of that old favourite? I don't think there was a single thing on the menu that didn't look interesting or appetizing. It's a good 90 minute round trip from where I live, but I'm looking forward to returning as soon as possible.
The Dawnay Arms – YorkThis was highly recommended to me by friends and I was not let down. The restaurant is only small so we were lucky to make a reservation as it was fully booked by around 1130. We arrived early which gave us chance to view the wine list in the comfortable waiting area. We were seated within five minutes before our actual reservation time. When seated we were given short but specific details of the specials board, how fresh the main ingredients were and where they came from. My partner and I both ate starter and main courses off the specials board although the main menu looked both original and appealing too. All the food seemed fresh, local produce prepared on the premises. The staff were all well presented and knowledgeable about the food and wine. I found the atmosphere very relaxing and comfortable and the service was excellent throughout the night. After fantastic food, wine and service I would rate my experience of this restaurant very highly and will certainly return in the future.
Ate O Clock – Yorkred chilli restaurant in york ? after we have try it, we can say you must come and try it yourself it is out of this world and not just saying it. must go booked a big party to night for 40 people and it is my girl friend's birthday. ha ha happy birthday to her.
Red Chilli – YorkWe can not fault this restaurant at all! We have eaten the chef Kennys food before at the Blue bicycle and at a wedding, and could not wait to try this place. It did not let us down at all, the ambience was second to none, the staff friendly and helpful, but the food.......... wow! The best in york in our opinion. The attention Kenny gives to everything is outstanding, the little extras such as homemade bread in different flavours, the fact he makes the effort of coming personally to see if all is ok and plenty more I could rabbit on about. Can not wait till we go again.
Ate O Clock – YorkOur favourite Thai restaurant. Tranquil surroundings with wonderfully pleasant and attentive staff. The food is of a high standard but we particularly enjoy the Malaysian Pork dish made with Tamarind. It is rich, hot and slightly sweet and goes brilliantly with the Ruins Pinotage. The obvious care which goes into makinga. the food is matched by the quality of the ingredients. The deep fried ice cream in bread and coconut is a triumph.
Sangthai Restaurant – YorkWe went to York for the day and heard about this Restaurant from a few people. Me and my friends had the Deal for £15 for 3 courses and it was lovely. We all loved the food, the service was great and the experience was the best. We were so full we had problems walking after! It is a must you must go to if you love Turkish food - you are not to be disappointed if you go to Kapadokya! I just wish i lived closer so i could go there more often.
Kapadokya – YorkI can't tell you how disappointed I am after following the recommendations on Sugarvine written by others for the Rose & Crown. The pub was dreadful... well I say pub, it felt more like a restaurant... The food was not much better and the staff acted like children giggling at every opportunity. Like I say disappointed.
Rose and Crown – YorkExcellent steaks - especially the rib eye - probably best in North Yorkshire. Couldn't recommend it more. Great Yorkshire hospitality too! Not too pricey.
Blackwell Ox Inn – YorkFriendly locals pub, serves good value home cooked meals. Nice place for a decent beer and good pub food, not too far out of city centre. Also has letting bedrooms, fairly basic but really good value for money! If you need a cheap bed in York this is the place!
Edinburgh Arms – Yorkthe best Indian restaurant experience that i have had in years 5 star
Akbars – YorkVery good chinese restaurant serving generous portions of good authentic chinese food and dim sum. Whenever I have visitors we never fail to frequent Maxis. Pity the Leeds branch is no where near as good!
Maxis – YorkWe have been trying to track down the chef originally from The Blue Bicycle for quite some time and last week we found him, the new owner of Ate O'Clock. We had a wonderful evening helped by the fact that the staff were extremely friendly and efficient, the atmosphere was great and the food fantastic. The owner/chef is extremely attentive and helps to make you feel very special. Go and have a look...The best chef in York!! In our opinion the best chef in York...Go and have a look...
Ate O Clock – YorkI found the Blue Bicycle to be distinctive but not necessarily in the most positive way. The wine list was adequate with a number of Languedocian wines from Southern France. For a starter i had the fried baby rabbit, a delicate dish with a somewhat arid aftertaste, the bitter sauce was not appropriately in tune with the nature of the dish. For the main course i had the foie gras, unusual as a main, however, it was presented reasonably well, though the technique required to cook such a dish is not particularly challenging. The price of these two dishes was well within my range, and the service was curt yet not impolite. With so many restaurants in York i think i will be going elsewhere in future.
Blue Bicycle – YorkJust been to BoBo LoBo for our work Christmas party. A table of 14 eating at 9pm wasn't an issue for them at all, even though they're a really small venue. We pre-ordered in advance - a selection of starters between us which were all excellent, and a variety of mains. The fajitas were the best, the steak and ribs great, and the half chicken dish was gigantic (could have done with some sort of sauce or salsa with it though). We had loads of wine and beers and shots of vodka, and still only managed to spend less than £470 between 14 of us, which we considered a bargain. The staff were really accommodating, turning the music down for us once everyone else had left the dining area, letting us stay at and move around our tables so we could play some games, and being swift to respond whenever we required booze top-ups. We moved to the downstairs bar at 1am where the atmosphere was really nice, some people had a dance and others just chatted in the bar. Music was good and the other clientele didn't seem in the least bit clique-y which you get in some of the latin joints in Leeds. All in all an excellent night out!
