Toast is a café bar and grill restaurant on Blackpool’s Corporation Street housed in a former bank building situated close to the Grand Theatre and the Winter Gardens but away from the hustle and bustle of the Queen Street nightlife. Owner Riccy Caunce is passionate about rejuvenating the town centre and this chic and contemporary venue has exposed brick walls, laminated floors, modern art and space for 90 diners over two floors -- plus outside seating when weather permits. During the day, the kitchen serves a café menu with all-day breakfasts, sandwiches, home-made burgers, light bites and a selection of main meals. Then after 5pm the candles come out and things step up a gear with an a la carte menu based on fresh, locally sourced produce. Popular favourites include Bowland lamb shoulder, Lakeland fillet and the fresh catch of the day and new dishes range from Mushroom Stroganoff to Thai Chicken Pasta, Panzarotti and grilled Sea Bass. Vita on Blackpool’s Highfield Road is a new family-run Italian café, bar and restaurant that can accommodate 60 diners over its two floors. Café by day and restaurant by night, it’s open from mid-morning serving Italian coffee, breakfast, open Italian toasties and a selection of main meals to eat-in or take away. In the evenings, the kitchen steps up a gear offering a modern Italian menu with starters such as Arancini cake stuffed with mozzarella served with a sweet and sour braised tomato relish and Mains like Char-grilled Sicilian sausage served on a mustard mash with red onion sauce. Everything on the menu -- even down to the desserts, ice creams and sorbets -- is made in-house by the executive head chef. All dishes are cooked to order using locally sourced ingredients and the food is complemented by a fantastic selection of fine wines, Italian coffees and draught products. Thai food fans are catered to in this self-styled ‘oriental noodle bar’. It’s minimalist in style with wooden floors and plenty of light and space, avoiding the clutter which often bedevils ethnic restaurants. At ground level, there’s a funky modern bar filled with Thai artefacts including the large elephants at the entrance. A huge staircase takes you up to the restaurant proper which is fitted out in similar style. Open for lunch and dinner right through from 11.30am to 11pm every day (except Tuesday) with last orders in the bar at 12.30am. Wah Wahs is a great bet for a quick spicy food fix.
