We fancied this place after reading the last review. Indeed it does have oodles of character and it is easy to imagine the children in the old victorian school. Its more of a restaurant than a pub, however the cask ale is very good. We thought our starters absolutely first class! Confit of duck with lentils and real fresh crab hot pate. The mains were as good, rustic hearty and filling. A chunky venison cottage pie and hot roast partridge. Quality cheeseboard with port to follow. The service was pretty good with the exception of the waitress in the red shoes. The rudest attitude i have ever experienced in a restaurant/pub. We were both stunned. A real shame as it spoiled the whole night for us. The other staff were nice and friendly but not her. I would highly recommend this place, when she is off work obviously!
