My favourite place in Barrow to eat, fast and friendly service and the food is excellent. Garlic bread to die for.

Salvanas – Barrow-in-FurnessThe best restaurant I have ever eaten in. Makes glad I visited this country. Mike Pittsburg USA
Overwater Lodge The – AlstonI wish i lived in Brigsteer, a beautiful village with a fantastic pub....having read in The Daily Telegraph that The Wheatsheaf was in the best 50 pubs in England & wales-best for food(cumbria) we decided that we must visit on one of our frequent trips to the lakes, and we wasn't disappointed...great people, truly great food...definitely gonna return(soon!)
The Wheatsheaf Inn – KendalWhat a pretty setting in the centre of this tiny village. Excellent real ale beers and a warm welcome. We stopped for a light lunch sitting outside in the rear beer garden. Food was reasonable quality, chile and a very nice beef sandwich but frozen chips!! Why? It was a lovely sunny day which no doubt enhanced the visit but would call again and maybe try the evening restaurant menu.
Three Greyhounds Inn The – ApplebyWe went to Amigos Mexican and Steakhouse in Ulverston on Friday 30th May, we were a group of 14 and were extremely well accommodated. The service was very good, all the wait staff were extremely polite and helpful. The food was delicious (try the mushrooms to start) and was piping hot when served. We pre-ordered all the food as there was so many of us and on the order I wrote everyone's name against the meal they had ordered and when the meals came out the staff simply said the name of the person who had ordered the meal which saved a lot of confusion from people who had forgotten what they ordered. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, it has a great atmosphere and the bar downstairs is very nice.
Amigos The Mexican – UlverstonUndoubtedly the best Indian food and genuine Indian knowledge in the area! The place to go if you want an actual Indian meal with actual Indian service! No where better!
Indiagate – PenrithI have just returned from a weekend in Ulverston, and was extremely fortunate to have discovered The Old Farmhouse. My wife and I ate here twice, and the food was absolutely excellent on both occassions. It was also very reasonably priced, and the staff were extremely pleasant and attentive. We would recommend the "Chicken Stack", which was well cooked and came with a delicious pepper sauce, but all the food which came out of the kitchen looked superb. The restaurant looks as if it has been refurbished fairly recently, and has a lovely atmosphere. The adjoining main bar area has a large screen for sports events, and the locals made us feel very welcome. There is also a well kept beer garden, with nice floral displays, and patio heaters for sitting out when it gets a bit chilly. The management 'team' Neal & Mandy, also took the time to come and have a chat with us, and make sure everything was in order, which was a nice touch, as they were extremely busy. If you are in the area, I would thoroughly recommend that you drop in, as you will be made very welcome .
Old Farm House The – Ulverstonbrilliant, good service and good food. nice owner aswell. what more could you ask for?
Akash Tandoori – WhitehavenExcellent all-round menu ~ in particular the cake/sweet section with it's fabulous cheesecake selection. The Swiss Brulee Cheesecake is perfection on a plate. Service is also very good and this cafe is always our first port of call whenever we are on a walk that includes Ambleside...
Cafe Treff – AmblesideWe found this place on a busy night in bowness and were lucky to get a table without a reservation. Excellent food, at least just as good as in Thailand, which is rare in england. The decoration of the restaurant was beautiful and really complemented our meal, as did a bottle of Thai wine which is new to us. Definitely worth a visit if your a fan of Thai food and a good place if you haven't had it before and want the authentic taste.
Jintana Thai – WindermereI had the misfortune to visit this place in May 2008. The bar service was poor . The beer was flat We only had bar meals ie two sandwiches and small a portion of chips which cost £2.45. The pub owners in Cumbria think they can rip off passing motorists without them batting an eyelid. Think again
Sportsmans Inn – PenrithWe dined here with a party of 20 from work - it was very well organised I provided a list of what each person was having and they brought the meals out and called each persons name. The service was quick and efficient and the food was very tasty, hot and nicely presented. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food. Try the chilli vodka - its excellent!!! There is a good, reasonably priced wine list too.
Amigos The Mexican – UlverstonGreat interior but awful food accompanied by a tone deaf singer
Ash Cottage – Grasmerefantastic. Clean good food and good menu would really recommend it here.
Beach Cafe – Millomone of the cleanest cafes ive been to in a long time. The food served is vegetarian but dont let this put you off as there are plenty of choices available and non veggies will easily find something on the menu they will like. Although they were very busy when I went the service was friendly and speedy.
Tapestry Tearooms – KendalI have recently eaten at the Crown Hotel's Conservatory Restaurant in Wetheral, It was a great dining experience, we arrived late(as usual), the restaurant was busy and the atmosphere was excellent. We were quickly seen to and our order taken, the meal and the service were first class, we were attended to very well throughout our visit. The bread is worthy of special note as it is home made daily, a unusual thing these days, infact nothing we ate was bought in pre-prepared, everything was made fresh on the premises. A thoroughly delightful experience. D Colson
Crown Hotel – CarlisleOn visiting friends in Ulverston we were taken to The Swan Inn. This is a real old fashioned pub like the used to be. No pub food other than baps at weekends. The beer selection was unreal, 9 cask beers plus ciders and belgian beers. The locals and the 'slightly insane' landlord made us very welcome. WARNING do not try chilli sauce if offered
Swan Inn The – UlverstonI have always enjoyed fine dining and as i was staying at the Crown Hotel on business i thought i would give their restaurant a go. It was fantastic! The staff were incredibly curtious, and made me feel very at home. The restaurant overlooks the fantastic gardens and makes a perfect setting for a meal. I opted for the smoked mackerel spring salad to start. For the main course i thought i would try the Ullswater beef fillet. They seem to source all their food locally which i think helps with the fresh taste. All in all it was one of the most pleasant dining experiences i have had in quite some time.
