The Sunday lunches are the best and great value you must try the Steak Pies...i've tried others recently in other pubs and they do not compare... also the lemon blossom cheese cake and the wotta a lotta toffee dessert is to die for!!! they are open now during the week for more excellent food..will have to try going for tea one night.

we were very disappointed with a meal we received at the weekend while visiting with friends who have always had very good meals there. they had run out of what we first ordered and when our second choice of meal came all the veg were almost raw and cold and some veg and gravy advertised on menu was missing. we complained and reordered but the second meal was not very hot either although the veg was better but as we had been waiting about 1hr 30mins and were hungry we ate it. I would like to praise the waitress who attended to us as she was very friendly and apologetic but this was not her fault. something was very amiss in the kitchen and should be sorted.

We visited Kendells Bistro for the first time yesterday and were very pleasantly surprised. We didn't even know it existed and chose it for its convenient location near the Playhouse and what looked like a good value pre-theatre menu (£12.95 for 2 courses, £14.95 for 3). The restaurant was empty (a pity) but we found the decor quite warm and enjoyed the French music. Service was courteous and attentive and we munched on very fresh baguette with butter while waiting for the food. The roquefort salad starter was light and fresh (so often, blue cheese dishes are overwhelmingly heavy) with very crisp, mild chicory. Our main courses were belly pork, a gratin of potatoes with blue cheese, and salmon en croute. They were all tasty and nicely presented. The salmon was delicately cooked and subtly flavoured, and wrapped in thin homemade pastry. A small green salad and freshly cooked carrots and broccoli accompanied the dishes. We followed the main courses with a densely chocolatey 'pot au chocolat' and a comforting apple and almond tart ('tarte normande') with vanilla creme anglaise. Again, the pastry in the tart was crispy and delicious. Overall we thought the food was nicely presented, fresh, simple but very tasty. The portion sizes were just right and we thought the menu was good value for money. There were many other a la carte choices on a blackboard menu. We would definitely recommend the bistro and plan to visit again soon.

I would recommend the Kings Arms for the food but not for the service. We ate there last week and there were no vegetarian options, no childrens menu ON SUNDAYs only. I wonder what vegetarians and children do on Sundays in Wakefield? When asked what was for dessert, we were bluntly told 'I have no idea'. When I asked, so can you tell me how I find out, the bar staff reluctantly rang the kitchen and found out.. We were about to hand over another £30 but decided to promptly leave after several rounds of actually trying to spend some money..

"Salute Restaurant in Rothwell Leeds. What a terrible place! Please save yourselves the hassle and don’t waste your time or money here, the staff have their own unique interpretation of customer service. You cannot book between the hours of 7pm and 9pm on a Saturday (fair enough). We turned up at 7.15pm in party of three and were told it'd be a 45 minute wait. AS there's no-where else to wait we ended up sitting at the bar drinking very over-priced drinks. 75 minutes later we lead to a table and our order's taken, the starters were rather nice, .. so far so good, but we then had to wait ages for our main courses, it was 9.30 before they were served. I ordered the cheese tartlets and they were terrible! Far too much stilton and immensely overpowering, I took one mouthful and then had to wait for a good 5 minutes before being able to attract the attention of the waiting staff to send it back (by which time my mouth had swollen up and my tongue was sore, such was the power of the cheese they’d loaded these tartlets with. I love strong cheese but have never experienced anything like this). I ordered another dish, but as my companions had almost finished their meal and it was 10.15pm I immediately decided to cancel this order, However there was no sign of any waiting staff so I had to get up and find a member of the waiting staff to cancel the order. 10 minutes after I cancelled the order, it turned up! Of course I informed the waitress the order was cancelled, she then came back and said I still had to pay for it! (Legally this is not the case in UK law). I asked to speak to the manager who was surely and very unfriendly, and also unaware of the UK law, she too insisted I had to pay for this main course I’d cancelled. She made quite a scene in front of other diners, perhaps to attempt to embarrass us, but she managed only to embarrass herself. Eventually the owner came out to our table; she ALSO insisted I should pay for this cancelled order. Of course I offered to leave my name and address and leave the amount I thought the order I sent back was worth (I actually think they should have paid ME compensation, it was THAT bad)… at which point the owner then asked us to leave!!! Hilarious, we were ordered out of a restaurant for not liking the first dish and then cancelling the second order and refusing to pay for the cancelled second order…. What a joke! Would seriously recommend you avoid this place. Apart from our terrible experience; there really is no-where else to go whilst you wait for your table, there is very limited seating at the bar whilst you wait for your tale, the drinks are over-priced, and don’t expect any amount of customer service. Can I just say that this place is one of the nicest places I have ever had the pleasure in visiting, the warm friendly atmosphere means that you can enjoy a bite to eat in your lunch hour or spend a great evening enjoying delicious fresh food, ladies if you want to dine alone in your lunch hour and feel comfortable come to this restaurant and enjoy the great food and excellent value for money!!! Also thank you for the cookie!!!!!

Central Park is a lively and very popular restaurant. The food is very tasty and I don't mind waiting as I know it is cooked from fresh. Try the mousetrap burger! Book in advance to ensure you reserve a table.

Since the new owners( nick&lucy ) have arrived, marr lodge is a pleasure to visit. The food is excellent and all home cooked with a friendly atmosphere and a warm welcome. Its nice to find a pub that is not run by a big company. Don't expect cheap microwaved food at a discounted price because its all fresh and cooked to order. We go at least twice a week and have never been disappointed. (my wife is a stickler for public toilets and there's are the best she has seen)

Fabulous food, great service and atmosphere. Aside from this, the highlight for me was getting a decent coffee that was hot and didn't just take like hot milk like so many other places! We really enjoyed our meal and will definitely be going again!

I telephoned this restaurant in advance to book a table for two and was told i didn't need to book. On the evening we arrived at half seven and was told there was a one and a half hour wait! Ridiculous, so we didn’t bother. When you can get into this restaurant though it is very nice, the food is good, the atmosphere is good and the price reasonable, just a shame they don’t take bookings for couples.

This restaurant should be receiving the Michelin Star, and numerous other awards, It really should, the food is absolutely out of this world, its busy every night of the week and you need to book at least 2 weeks in advance to and Nick who is the owner is also the chef and he does it alone, amazing, the restaurant is run by his wife Andrula (not sure of the spelling) professional in all ways. Excellent food, superb atmosphere and is now a licensed restaurant so you don't have to bring your own bottle any more. Thanks to Nick and Andrula for many a wonderful time

One of THE best places I've ever eaten. But please don't tell anyone else. Don't tell the chef he's very talented as he may demand higher wages. Superb food, wine, and a seriously good selection of real ales. Nuff said.

Good Indian food is available in lots of places. Especially good Indian food is very, very special. We had that 'special' meal tonight early doors at the beautifully refurbished restaurant. Eating such good food and being able to see three waterfalls is not what you may think of as being too usual. Quality - outstanding. Very fresh ingredients cooked so, so well. Value for money - brilliant. If the whole meal had cost 50% more you would not have begrudged a penny of it. That's not something you often hear a Yorkshire man saying now is it?

this is by far the best Indian restaurant i have ever been to. i live in north wales but am lucky enough to have family nearby to visit. the food is superb and the staff are extremely friendly and polite. i have eaten here about 5 times in the last year and can't wait to visit again. i wish i could move this restaurant to n wales. highly recommended.

I booked this restaurant for Valentines day due to all the wonderful reviews on this page. I don't whether it was because it was Valentines day, but the food was not very nice. My first impression was very good, the place looked nice and out table was ready straight away. However all the food was bland and pretty much all tasted the same. Everything tasted like soap. We thought we'd make the best of it and just enjoy out wine. However the waiters and waitresses seemed to like topping up my wine while I was not looking. I drink faster than my fiancee and so was not happy that they kept filling up my wine glass when she was still on her first. I did not tip in which the waitress acted confused for a while trying to get a tip out of me. Would never go again.

I visited Brooks and was surprised by the reception we got - we didn't get one. No one bothered to greet us, just left us to find them and then there was no where to sit and peruse the menu so we stood at the bar. My gin and tonic was then spoiled by being served in a cracked glass. After about 10 minutes a table in the bar area became free and we ordered about 20 minutes after that. Most of the staff were friendly but one was really snooty - perhaps in the wrong job? We were then shown through to the dining room and starters were served, my partners was luke warm at best and mine OK as it was cold. Quite tasty but not much to it. The main course was reasonable although some of the meat wasn't as tender as it could be. We wouldn't go back again, other restaurants of similar quality offer a far better menu at better value for money.
