My experience at Zizzi was unfortunately not very good, we waited for 10 minutes to be seated whilst a table was lazily cleared (without being given any menus to look at in the meantime) and when we were seated we waited a good 15-20 minutes to have our meal orders taken (no drink order was taken when we sat down as you would usually expect). I should add that they did initially ask for our order after about 10 minutes though my boyfriend asked for “another minute” which unfortunately was taken to mean as "another 10 minutes" by our waitress. I would also like to point out that the restaurant was not under-staffed on the night that we ate at Zizzi. Our starters took 30-40 minutes to be served (which given the fact were a cheese and garlic bread and goats cheese bruschetta is a little unusual in terms of a delay) but were quite tasty, we waited another 15 minutes for our empty plates to be cleared and thankfully our mains arrived 10 minutes later. Our previous complaints as to the delays experienced thus far into the evening would be wavered if the main courses were acceptable but unfortunately this was not the case. There were no particular offensive tastes in either of our meals (meatballs with spaghetti and seafood risotto) but both meals were completely bland and without any identified flavour at all. The meatball dish had all the etiquette of adding a squeeze of bargain brand tomato sauce into boiled flavourless spaghetti but compared to the risotto this was practically a firework display in terms of taste. I don’t pretend to be any great chef but until my experience at Zizzi I had previously thought it impossible to get a risotto so completely wrong. In a nutshell I was confronted with arborio rice boiled in water, with a few bits of fish placed here and there. The afore-mentioned water also appeared to constitute two thirds of the actual dish, my rice was practically drowning in this. I’m pretty sure that water is all the risotto was cooked in, as opposed to wine, stock or even salt and pepper. The actual fish included in the dish (salmon, prawns and calamari) were the best (if “best” can be deemed appropriate in terms of this description) part of the meal, though the prawns were slightly under-cooked. Overall the experience was pretty awful, and having never complained about a restaurant throughout my years of dining out I felt it important to say something (especially as I find it difficult to complain face to face, hence why I’m providing feedback via sugarvine!) so that maybe Zizzi can take something from this and try and actually invest in some seasoning lessons at least. I feel particularly disappointed as this was supposed to be my birthday treat for my boyfriend when both of us were left feeling a bit deflated at the end of the evening, though it did give us something to laugh about. As it currently stands I will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone, nor will I be returning until someone can convince me otherwise, presumably with some kind of weapon pointed at me. I would hasten to add that we did not go so far as to warn people off who were waiting at the front of the restaurant to be seated, unlike a couple who were sat next to us who did not have as much patience/idiocy (delete as appropriate) as we did. This particular couple marched out after 20 minutes of waiting to be served to loudly tell customers waiting to go elsewhere due to the long wait. I was not surprised to see that the couple who were told this were waited on hand and foot by observant staff after this incident.

I thought the food lacked flavour and lacked authenticity the cutlery was plastic and i was assaulted by the management and force fed meatballs till i threw up.

Without a doubt one of the poorest dining experiences i have ever experienced. Food mediocre, staff poor and generally the biggest waste of money ever. Nothing authentic about the place!

When you have a lot of competition you have to distinguish yourself. Uni is an Indian restaurant, in a city with a lot of Indian restaurants, on a street with three other Indian restaurants and its unique feature is cubicles. It says on its menu that it is a cubicle restaurant. No one ever decided to go to a restaurant for a cubicle. I guess the idea was supposed to be romantic and exclusive, like a private dining room. However, heavy spicy food is not an aphrodisiac. The waiters can’t see if you have finished or not, so if you did get intimate you will have the curtains opened and be asked if you would like more drinks. We sat in our cubicle and kept the curtains tied back. One thing Uni could do to be different from the competition would be to serve good food but it was obvious that they think cubicles are enough and haven’t bothered. My starter was mushroom bhaji on puri. The mushrooms were well spiced but the tomatoes were under ripe, I know it is April but if you can’t get ripe tomatoes buy them from abroad or don’t use them. The puri was not a flaky, light base; it was dense and tasteless as was my companions. He had sag aloo on puri and he did not like it. Things got worse. When his main course came he said “That is the saddest looking lamb tikka I have ever seen.” I have never seen a happy lamb tikka but I have seen much perkier salads then the one on his plate. My lamb tikka rogan josh was disappointing. It didn’t have the spicy kick I expect from rogan josh. I know one could argue forever about what constitutes medium in a curry but this was not it. As they used more under ripe tomatoes it was bland. The mushroom rice and naan breads (one plain , one garlic) were passable although I would have liked the naan to be a bit fluffier. We obeyed the golden rule of eating in an Indian restaurant and didn’t order puddings. I have a serious problem with the drinks menu. There were two options on draft, Tetleys and Carling but no Cobra, Kingfisher or anything you might want to drink. There are bottles of Cobra at more then double the price in a shop. Of course they are going to jack the prices up but at least serve something I can’t get from a supermarket. The wine and spirits available were uninspiring. I know a lot of Indian restaurants have problems with drinks as the owners are teetotal but this was unacceptable. The waiters were competent but not friendly. The decor (cubicles aside) was the worst kind of 70s curry house stereotype; swirly carpets and bad lighting. There was a strange and strong smell that came from the upstairs toilets right into the restaurant. This place was not cheap. I don’t think Indian food should be cheap but this was bad food in an unpleasant environment so no price is too low. Next time I want a curry, I‘ll cook my own. It will be tastier and the Cobra will be cheaper.

Dined recently with 5 adults and 2 youngsters great place, views terrific particularly as sun set, ambiance great, friendly helpful staff and the food was terrific by any 4 star standards, well presented, beautifully cooked and just enough not to overface you. Scallops starter was lovely as was the foie gras and the beef, lamb and lobster were really good, venison had an unusual texture and was classed ok but would not have it again, very good night out at a fair price for the high quality repast. Will go again in a couple of weeks.

othellos has been a wonderful surprise and something of a second home. Ive lived in the area for 20 years listening to the awful rumours about the Greek place on the hill. What a transformation when Maria and Gerry took over! I bring friends, family and colleagues who love the super FRESH FOOD, great SERVICE and easy unhurried atmosphere EPHARISTO POLI.

Greek Taverna – Waterloo
Spunky Neil.......x

A regular diner at 60 Hope Street, decided to go with family and try for myself this well talked about eatery. Very over rated.... Staff had very little knowledge of what they were serving. Top end prices with no frills service. Back to 60 Hope Street it is... Views great, but an eatery cannot maintain a reputation on views alone. If you must try it, juts pop into the bar for a drink see the view and eat somewhere else. Overall rating 5.5/10, that is being generous....

I was introduced to Lefteris' Taverna during a recent visit to Liverpool to catch up with old friends. I must say this was one of the highlights of the weekend! I am no expert, but I know a thing or two when it comes to Greek Cuisine. (During my student days I traveled and spent a fair amount of time in Greece.) The restaurant interior is excellent, very inviting and comfortable. I found the staff to be very pleasant and helpful and the service was spot on. The food (The most important part!) brought back memories of eating out in Athens. I enjoyed some tasty calimari for starters, followed by a very generous portion of mousaka, accompanied with fries and rice. This was then washed down with an ice cold Mythos, a crisp, refreshing greek lager. The menu has a top selection of dishes which includes plenty of choices for Vegetarians. I am back in Liverpool over the Summer and look forward to returning to the Taverna once again. Totally recommended! 10/10. Ryan, Norwich UK

As a North Indian, we appreciate the the delights of South Indian food. It is a real shame that this cuisine is not more widely available. I am a regular "take away-er" of this lovely restaurant. The food is excellent, and I would highly recommend the chicken 65. Absolutely out of this world.

Mezze offers authentic Turkish cuisine in a very friendly environment and is great value. All in all, you can't say better than that. All the food was very fresh, generous portion sizes and very very tasty. Highly recommended and my Turkish brother in law approved too !
