We used to love the place but over recent months service has been really awful. Last three visits, we did not find the place as friendly and last time we had takeaway there was a mistake in our order (overpaid) but when I called back, I was told it was all my fault and not even a single word of appreciation of our problem was given. Actually we were expecting just an apology but none was offered. Food was still nice but we are not going back again. What a shame.

Been to 1847 regularly for the last 6 months or so. The food is superb, wine choices are lovely. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. The only negative thing I would have to say about this restaurant is that it's ventilation isn't very good and you can leave smelling of food. If they can sort this I'd give it 10/10 every time.

On our first visit, we saw on the wall at the entrance that we were to find a table, note the order number and place the order at the bar. So, we went in and started looking for a table. There were quite a few to choose from. A nearby waitress asked 'can I help you' with a clear attitude. We said we were just looking for a table, in which she responded that we had to 'sign in at reception'. So, off we trotted to 'reception', thinking she would follow and serve us. She didn't follow, and we were left standing there waiting for someone to come over. Whilst we were there, we noticed a small chalkboard, with faded chalk writing on , saying please wait here to be seated. A scruffy young man strolled over to us, and asked if 'we were alright'. I asked for a table for 2 and he said we would have to wait 15 minutes. Unsure as to why this was, as I had just walked round the pub to see numerous spare tables, I asked if all the tables were reserved. The young man, shrugged his shoulders, and said 'ummm some of them', so I asked why we couldn't sit at a table which wasn't reserved. Again he said '15 minute wait'. There were no reserved signs on any of the empty tables I had seen. I then asked what the correct procedure to get a table is, as the information supplied by the door is completely different to the faded chalked instruction on the small chalkboard on this 'reception desk'. He just looked at me, not knowing how to respond, presumably because he doesn't know himself. How can a quiet pub justify a 15 minute wait for a table on a Monday evening, with approx half of the tables vacant? What is the point in having 2 conflicting instructions on how to be seated & get served? How can the staff not know the correct procedure in which customers should follow in order to be seated and served. How can a pub/restaurant have such unmotivated and attitude-y staff and expect to attract new customers and keep them loyal? As you may have guessed, we didn't stay to find out what the food was like. I would avoid this place at all costs. It may look aesthetically pleasing, both internally and externally, but the staff were enough to put me off.

Delicious Indian food, would definitely recommend it. Don't be put off by the bar like frontage, it's simply a restaurant.

I wont be going to the owls again, the service i received last time was awful. I booked a table for 7oclock for two and even though we arrived 10 mins early it was 25 mins until we got our food order took and then 20 mins later we were still sat there while other people in had come in later and ordered later were being shown to their tables, when i approached the waitress to say we had been waiting ages i just got told we halve to wait for a able to become free i said well other people who came in after us have been shown tables i.e a couple came 20 mins after us which her relpy was silent so I said I would please like to cancel booking she then said ok, which I thought was rude no customer service at I understand things like this can get mixed up but not even a sorry or anything, I will take my custom elsewere in future.

I have been going into the metropolitan in west didsbury for many years with a group of local friends. therefore i feel well placed to write an honest and frank review. For a long time now this place has been slipping in standards based largely on the fact that it is a busy place. because of this, the staff have become lethargic, disinterested and arrogant. The biggest problem however is the management who at best are inept incompetent and frankly laughable, led by big mel, who makes basil fawlty look good. When she is not picking on people with learning difficulties - or bullying staff on minimum wage, she can be guaranteed to be overseeing a dirty bar, slow service and TGI Fridays standard food. She does however manage to do it in a snooty manner which implies that she is slightly better than you - which clearly shes not otherwise she wouldn't work there You will not be able to get served quickly on a Friday and Saturday - you will not be able to move in there on a Sunday because of toddlers crawling on the floor - during the week, mothers with oversized prams will block the entire space - ordering their coffee and cake (making it last 2 hours) - which inevitably slows down service because the staff cant work the coffee machine The food is very average, and gets away with it because its not a bad building which papers over some of the very large cracks. I would recommend most of the other places on burton rd as being better. In conclusion the met is at the moment the place to go for people with little imagination on a friday or saturday. It will however die a death in much the same way as other crazily busy places have over the last few years. This is because the EIGHT managers are basically children who have no idea what they are doing and will sink the place. Average prices: Pint - £4.20 Wine - £18 per bottle Meal for 2 with drinks - £70 Bottle of Peroni - £4 Vodka and orange - £5

Terrible atmosphere, food poor at best, cold, bad quality, service slow, staff and management ignorant bordering on rude. All in all a terrible experience.

Myself, my partner and our son dined here a few eeks agi. We consider ourselves connoisseurs of Turkish food having tried pretty much all the Turkish restaurants in the Manchester area over the years. I can honestly say Saray is the best by far - a huge cut above its competitors (Turkish delight) and a more modern atmosphere to dine. The only downside was having to wait nearly an hour for our food but we did arrive at the busiest time (sat night) although we did book. The reason for our wait was apparently lots of people ordered mixed grill at the same time and their grill wasn't big enough - so my only criticism is get a bigger grill since my guess is given the menu - a fair few folk will want grilled meat. Other than this, we are definitely turning our back on the other local Turkish venues and making Saray our number one choice.

Somewhere different with freshly cooked food using freshly purchased ingredients. Try Zaytoon for a refreshing change.

Had a fabulous night at the Owls, 30th birthday and engagement party. Food was fantastic and staff were great, very polite and helpful. Thank you for making our night a very special one, hopefully we weren't too loud!!!!

i had my lunch here today and was so impressed by the service and food i felt i had to let others know. extremely friendly and helpful landlord. i will be back. the town is worth a visit too.

I visited the Double Tree for the first time for my birthday on Saturday 28 April. I had heard good reports about it and I can say that none of it is hype or comments by employees. It's all true! It has genuinely quality Indian food. The best you would find outside India. They have some lovely touches on customer service too. On my list of favourite restaurants.

We spent a lovely family evening at The Owls, we were a little apprehensive as we were taking my granddaughter who is in a wheelchair, we were looked after very well, the food was served very quickly, was piping hot, we weren't rushed The young girl behind the bar Danni was wonderful going out of her way to accommodate us and meet our needs,we were made welcome and felt very comfortable as was my grandchild who was having her 1st meal out since her accident. Thank you to all the staff at the owls, we will be visiting again,we cannot fault any part of the evening

Been going to Dimitris for years. Food is always good, but something has happened recently which has change the ambience. Went for dinner with two friends, one of whom is very poorly and wanted to treat her friends. Managed to get a table around 5pm on a Saturday evening, but were told the table was needed back by 6.30. When it came to 6.30 we were happy to move, however we still had food and drinks to finish. The waitress then offered us a table in the alley (which is very nice) However, after 15 minutes, the manager came over and demanded that table back. His behaviour was totally at odds with that of managers in reputable establishments. He positively aggressive and gave the impression that he is not up to the job. Not only was he bullying - he also encouraged other staff to gang up on us. Not sure this would have happened if we'd have had our husbands with us. Never come across anything like it. thought it was just us, but we have talked to someone else who had a similar experience at this restaurant. Take this in to consideration if you are planning a relaxing nights out with friends. Not a great way to end your evening.

I've just been talking to my husband about the lovely meal we had at Zaytoon,Although it was a couple of weeks back I thought I must add a review as it was so good. The restaurant sits along side an eclectic mix of eateries, including a German, Spanish, Persian and Italian . We opted for iZaytoon and weren't disappointed. We had a Perfect Middle Eastern meal, even the salad accompanying the meal was crisp and tasty with a mint dressing. The choice is not very wide - but we think this helped ensure the high quality. The owner was a very nice guy too and made us feel very welcome. Will definitely go again. :-)

I have been going here for years and they serve the best fish and chips for many a mile. Friends I have brought here have loved the atmosphere and the quality of the food. My personal suggestion to any new visitors is go for the chips and delicious gravy.
