Went to the Clog and Billycock for lunch today. I have been there before and have previously enjoyed the food. However, they have now changed the menu for Sunday and the choice is now slightly limited. I understand that on Sunday the chefs have more to contend with now they make a Sunday lunch but the choice is now disappointing. My partner was looking forward to pork which was on their website as the main for Sunday lunch. On viewing the menu we found it was actually lamb and they had not updated their website correctly. He eventually chose the hotpot which was a bit soupy. As a vegetarian I looked at the menu and wanted to walk out-I wish I had now. The choice was a massive cheese and onion pie that would serve 4 people but is meant to serve 1 person or a summer vegetable salad. Having eaten my breakfast quite late I opted for the salad. The salad was average with a few chunks of cheese, a few pieces of fennel, courgette and red onion with some cherry tomatoes and masses of salad leaves with dressing which basically just tasted like greenery and would have cost about £5 in any other restaurant instead of the £8.95 I paid. It would be nice to have a couple more options like the grilled mushroom they used to do at their sister pub 'the three fishes' and the fritters they do from Mon to Sat. It's fair to say I will no be going back as I feel I could have made better at home.

Rubbish service don't ask to see the chef he wasn't in ????????

I went here on Wednesday night to celebrate my birthday. The place itself is very impressive & the service is excellent. I know Gordon Ramsay recently voted it the best Chinese 2010 & to be totally honest I expected a lot more. We all ordered our food, i requested the wagu beef (which they didn't have, but did inform us that from the Friday coming it will be on the menu. for that reason i will be returning) The cocktail menu looked very good even though we did all opt for a bottle of the chablis. For starters me and my Boyfriend had the Hors d'oeuvre which were very tasty. My Parents had the Scallops which also looked nice. For the Mains I had the Fillet Steak Cantonese Style, this was superb (well worth a try). My boyfriend had the Chicken and Cashew Nuts & from what he said it sounded excellent. Before I even arrived at the restaurant I knew what I wanted for dessert, the Strawberry Samosas & unfortunately they didn't match the expectations that I had for them ( this doesn't mean they weren't nice because they were, but they weren't what I expected. ) My overall View for this restaurant is go and try it. The food is good the service is excellent & then restaurant itself is stunning. Thankyou

Fantastic food, fantastic drinks, fantastic restaurant! Celebrated our wedding anniversary here and we couldn't have wished for a nicer evening. Had the platter for 2 which was really tasty and even managed a sweet (after a break)! Flambayed rum & pineapple enjoyed by hubby and I had apple and pineapple crumble with custard which was lovely and fresh. Would defiitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates good food. Owners Dave & Janet were brilliant - a top night. Hope to go back very soon.

I spent my wedding day and night at Northcote Manor in 2008. The food is amazing, the service is fantastic and they really do make you feel special. So much so that my husband and I went back for afternoon tea, evening meal and overnight stay for our anniversary in 2009 and the same in 2010. My bridesmaid also came along and played gooseberry as she didn't want to miss out! Definitely one of the best places we've been. Sarah.

One word...WOW! I'm a well travelled person who enjoys a good meal - especially far eastern cuisine. I was recommended this restaurant by a friend who lives local whilst passing through and his recommendation was very greatly received. I have been to the Hakkasan and Kai in London, two Michelin starred Chinese restaurants, and Yu & You in my eyes could quite easily hold their own against them. From the warm welcome, Cocktail selection, to the service and obviously the food - just a breath of fresh air. I honestly do not understand the negative comments previously written. Yes it is a dark restaurant but that creates an intimate setting, the music is modern but quite chilled, I would say an Ibiza chillout vibe. The service of the staff was fantastic, polite, friendly and knowledgeable. I started with the Hot & Sour soup, had a nice tingle to it and full of flavour. I then had the Tempura Squid and a Dim Sum Platter - The squid was cooked perfectly in a lovely batter and the Dim Sum platter just delicious! For the main course I decided to have Steamed Seabass and boiled rice. The Seabass just melted in your mouth and as just devine. Overall a very pleasant experience, I would highly recommend this restaurant and I will be sure to visit again next time I'm in the area.

My brother came to stay last week and we decided to take the olds for a meal out. He suggested eating here and we all said we didn't want to go because it would be to expensive for lunch, after a bit of convincing we decided to go and what a pleasant surprise. We had lunch in the conservatory for a very reasonable price i must say and it was delicious. The olds got the small fish and chips and i decided to go for the regular fish and chips which i couldn't finish but it was delicious. I would definitely go again and may i just add what a lovely and beautiful surrounding, the gardens the reception and everything just blew me away. Fantastic.

This evening we ate a damn tasty, perfectly cooked, large portion, nicely priced excellent variety of caribbean food. The friendly staff made us feel at ease instantly and the perfect surroundings with Bob playing, . . Oh wotta night!!!! We will be recommending and going again soon.

My sister recommend this pub for my 60th birthday next year.

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT , been to this restaurant countless times and quality is always impeccable , never had a bad meal , the platter is a must ,the cosmos are great to ;) , we were married in Jamaica and this food is the closest thing to the Caribbean you can get !

After having not been to the Pack Horse for some years, I was interested to see whether it had changed - no - the decor was very dated - something out of the 80's! The food wasn't much better. Stuffed mushrooms and garlic bread were okay, nothing special, but the tortellini della casa was bland, overcooked mush. Other members of the party were disappointed in the undercooked pizza base, the chicken which was already cooked and re-heated and the abysmal service. Service was no better. We were told the chef was incapable of dealing with 2 separate orders from 1 large table (so we couldn't split the bill). Drinks took forever to be served, jugs of water arrived after we had finished our main course, along with side salads - again, after we finished our main courses. I can't think of any reason to recommend the Pack Horse to anybody

The food is definitely not geared towards people who love Indian food!! I had chicken tikka massala and my wife had chicken bhuna. The chicken tikka massala was very very salty and the chicken bhuna tasted like a microwave meal from a budget supermarket brand! The waiters are unhelpful and the man on reception was very grumpy and lacked customer skills! If your after quality Indian food and a good atmosphere i would recommend the shajan!!!

fantastic value for money, good food, good service, nice and clean and friendly cosy atmosphere. lovely views too. mid-week special can't be beaten & the steak pie is the best!

Superb. The staff and food are fantastic. The place is gorgeous, the staff go above and beyond. I have allergies and they were so helpful. One of the finest meals we have had in quite a while. I recommend it to you all and cannot imagine anyone being dissatisfied with their experience.

We usually really enjoy going to the Clog and Billycock, however, when we went for sunday lunch today, the service was appalling, and we waited at least half an hour for our main course, and the table next to us go their food first, and they ordered after us. very disappointing.

We visited Shajan last night and although the food was acceptable the overall experience was somewhat underwhelming. The restaurant is clearly popular but for my mind far too many people are packed in to far too small a space. There are too many waiters dashing around the place, tables are too close together and the ambiance is claustrophobic. The overall impression is one of being on a conveyor belt and no sooner you settle than the feeling of being moved on sets in.
