Amazing!
The Star Inn – HeathfieldNOT a restaurant, but an honest country pub with amazingly, excellent food (try the belly pork!). Good choice, kid-friendly, dog-loving, just off the Downs Link path, Brilliant!
Partridge Hotel – HorshamDon't bother with this one. Asked for Dover sole. Appeared uncooked and chef clearly inexperienced. Inedible but pub demanded full payment.
The White Horse Inn – PulboroughMy family and I enjoyed a great meal here on a quiet Sunday night. The food was excellent quality and good value...but the 3 staff continually topping up wine glasses, and pressing to get another bottle the minute one ran out grated. It's a shame as the food and atmosphere were good....but the staff have obviously been told by management to push orders on alcohol. We'll go back again but will have to advise that we'll happily serve our wine ourselves thank you!
Food Restaurant – WorthingThis is a very small and cosy restaurant, tucked away in the back roads of Felpham Village, opposite the “Fox” pub. There is something a bit quirky about the feel of this place - perhaps due to the simplicity of the décor - but it is clean, cosy and welcoming with pictures of the sea on the walls - I think it’s great! It’s the kind of place you could go to in your jeans or dressed up a little more and you never feel awkward or uncomfortable either way! There is always a friendly welcome and good service at all times. Starters included: mussels in garlic & white wine sauce; black pudding with bacon and pine kernels, tiger prawns with ginger and lime; duck liver pate & toast; We had the mussels and the black pudding - both of which were absolutely lovely - the best part of the meal!! Main Courses included: plaice in beer batter; meat pie & mashed potato; a selection of steaks with different sauces; slow roasted shoulder of lamb with port & rosemary sauce; pork with mushrooms in a vermouth and cream sauce; peppers stuffed with risotto. We both had the pork in the vermouth & cream sauce, which was really delicious - well balanced flavours, very tasty and plenty of it!!! Desserts included: gin & lime ice cream, tiramisu, profiteroles in 3 chocolate sauces, raspberries in port, cheesecake, pecan pie, apple pie. This was not the best part of the meal - the desserts were homemade, but my husband’s profiteroles were rather hard and my tiramisu tasted a little strange. However, this was a small glitch in a brilliant evening. The service was fantastic all evening and there was a great atmosphere in the restaurant, with lively conversation between guests, and the chef and waitress. To top it all off, we were given a homemade lemon licquer, which was really delicious! We have been here a couple of times now and love it - would love to see people support local restaurants like this…..give it a try!
Malthouse Restaurant – Bognor RegisWe waited half an hour for our food, despite people entering after us not only being served but having nearly finished their meal. When I asked the eastern European waitress how long we would have to wait, she simply shrugged her shoulders. We then left without paying (we had had our drinks in this time), and then the manager of the restaurant followed us down the street, blocked himself in front of my baby's buggy, and threatened to 'lay me out'. I immediately contacted the police who dealt with the matter and it was clear that the proprietor was known to them, as they advised us against letting him have our contact details. This grubby little man was rude and aggressive, and all this to a family with two young children who were simply dissatisfied with the appalling service. There are many restaurants along the promenade so please do avoid this one like the plague, and utterly shocking place with a sad and aggressive little owner who failed miserably to get one over on us.
Rainbow Restaurant – HastingsI visited Casa Ciro at lunchtime and had pronto pasta , it included a small bowl of pasta, garlic bread and a small glass of white wine. The waiter was a little familiar for my liking but after all it was only £4.95 all in. I can recommend this restaurant for a lunch time snack.
Casa Ciro – WorthingAbsolutely awful. A highly pretentious place with 'modern' stark decor which looks cheap and uninviting. Our fish n chips meal was quoted as 'fine dining' and all it seemed to be was a glorified greasy fish finger. Staff were rude & snobby. I guess this kind of place will attract the high street brand symbol wearing fraternity who love to rub shoulders with their kin... avoid totally!!!
The Black Market – HastingsMy wife and I (We are from Northern Ireland) were in Eastbourne over the week-end of 15/17 May and on the Saturday night we went looking for somewhere nice to eat as it was my wife’s birthday. As we passed the window of “Athens” some friends who were already in the Restaurant beckoned us inside. We are so glad we did - The food, friendly atmosphere, superb service, pleasant surroundings all combined to make it a birthday day meal to remember. The owner couple overheard our friends mention it was my wife’s birthday; learned my wife’s name, quietly informed the other diners and ensured that when EVERYONE sung happy birthday they knew it was for “Marie”. It was very evident that this family run high quality authentic Restaurant was popular as several diners were local and known to the owners I would recommend this establishment to anyone seeking good food in pleasant surroundings provided in a professional, friendly and value for money manner Thank you to the owners for such an enjoyable evening If we are ever lucky enough to visit Eastbourne again - we WILL dine at Athens
Athens Restaurant and Steakhouse – EastbourneVery nice dinner and the staff is very nice too. Place to go definitely
Ganges Restaurant – LewesThis restaurant is possibly the best restaurant i have visited. They provide a warm welcome with quick service. The food there is outstandingly cheap and affordable as well as the mouthwatering taste. They also provide free delivery around the local town which is yet again why it is so popular in Haywards Heath. Overall, i would recommend this Indian Restaurant to anyone and everyone. It provides a great atmosphere, and bookings can be made in advance for group meals. It is an excellent Restaurant!
Curry Inn Restaurant – Haywards HeathThis is a gem of a restaurant. They use fresh, local ingredients, and the staff are informed, friendly and relaxed - whilst obviously working very hard. As mentioned by others - staff pay attention to the children - and it all works out as a treat for us all. Finally - the food is superb.
Trattoria Italiana – BexhillReally excellent 'gastro style' food pub with superior service. Management and staff very helpful and friendly without being too 'in your face'. Have eaten there several times now - always a favourite to return to for a 'special' event.
Halfway Bridge Inn – PetworthWhere to begin? A historic pub of epic proportions (600 years old!) the staff told me that the building used to be a court house, meeting place amongst other things before settling on being a pub. The staff are friendly and helpful. The restaurant has plenty to choose from whether your stopping by for a BLT on locally freshly made bread. Or a more filling homemade steak and ale pie. There's also free wi/fi which is fast (so many other places have bandwidth hogs!) on my iphone. I can't recommend this place enough!
Chequer Inn – SteyningThe food at the Indian Cottage is always top notch. The staff are friendly and great with children.
Indian Cottage – Pulboroughhands down the best pub food and atmosphere in the east grinstead area, don't waste your time anywhere else!! the pork belly will knock your socks off!! Sorry no vegetarian suggestions.
Cat Inn – East Grinsteadwe were really impressed by this restaurant. The food was interesting and well cooked and they even had a recommended Indian wine that we'd had in India on the wine list. The price was good value and the staff very nice.
New Asian Spice – ChichesterAt less than 24 Hrs notice I needed a meal venue for 15 people and booked with The Windmill. Arriving at the agreed time, and despite the place being very busy, the staff had pre-arranged a suitable single table space, and seated and then served us immediately. They could not have been more helpful, delivered the 15 main meals together, and even came back to us uncalled almost immediately to say they had realised that they had made a mistake over one Steak's cooking time and offered (and achieved) an immediate swap. Without exception, they were friendly, polite and efficient, the food was all good, well presented and hot. Rare for me to say, but "thoroughly recommended", and I will definitely return!!
