Have started using this pub a lot of time, great staff, great food , would recommend to anyone. All the food is well worth the money. Been today, 28th March, if you not been yet , carvery on all day.

What a vile place,wonderful decor, vile fat owner with a really bad attitude, A great place ruined by the owner, shame on you

Had a great New Year at the pub. Super entertainment good food friendly staff. Wonderful value. Well worth the extra mile we had to travel.

The Portway is our most favourite restaurant. The staff, food and location is just perfect. The staff are great with kids and are really friendly. For a real homely, traditional Italian evening you cannot go wrong with The Portway - we love it.

We wished we hadn't of bothered! I booked what I thought was a romantic Italian meal for two but we got far from that at this restaurant. Firstly we booked a table for 8.30 and didn't get our starter until 9.30 and main course until 10! It was so packed there weren't even any seats at the bar for us to sit and relax until we did get our food! Staff seemed busy and the service wasn't what we expected. There is a very wide range of food on the menu but we chose this restaurant because we wanted Italian food and the food was not very Italian. Not a pizza or garlic bread in sight on the menu. Mainly steaks and chicken in different sauces. The only thing remotely Italian in this restaurant is the staff ! As for romantic it was like sitting in your living room packed with rowdy people! I would not recommend this restaurant!

our visit was the first time we had ever been to the chennai and was for a family birthday (there was 10 of us in total). when we arrived we were greeted by a friendly waiter and seated quite quickly. The service we received and food was exceptional. our food all arrived at the same time starters and main. The chennai was the best Indian meal we have had in a long time. we will definitely be going back.

I would dearly have liked to try this restaurant but they lost my booking! The family had to got somewhere else.

A fine pub/restaurant but marred by disinterested staff, esp. in the bar. They seem incapable of staying behind the bar and constantly wander off. When they do try to serve people they make no effort whatsoever to serve people in order. This is infuriating esp. when there are hardly any customers. Are they blind or just silly young kids? No sign of a managerial presence at all. Perhaps they recruited the staff from some hell hole on Broad Street.

We had a meal at the Chennai. The whole evening was really good. The food was excellent and well present on the plate. A lot of variety in the menu. The service from the very friendly staff was first class. The surrounding in the restaurant were modern, very well maintained and instantly made you feel at ease. It was an experience that we will repeat in the very near future

I wrote a really excellent report on the Deedar Restaurant in Barnt Green a couple of years ago, sadly I have to say the quality of the cooking has declined remarkably on a recent visit we were unable to eat a lamb starter or a lamb main course as it was so tough, the main course was totally left on my wifes plate, I decided to pay the bill as they wanted to argue as to whether it was poor or not. I wrote a constructive letter of complaint to the manager, but alas, rather surprisingly received no response. Some of my friends who use this restaurant and live locally have expressed a similar views on the recent poor quality of the food. How very sad as not so long ago I would have recommended to anyone for service & quality. MikeB

You may need to book or go early to eat here as it's popular and gets busy. The staff are always welcoming and very polite. In our experience the service is always of excellence and the food well prepared. The ambience in the restaurant has always been pleasant and a pleasure to return to time and again. Go try for yourself.

I prefer the Miu Miu at Marlbrook (diagonally opp.the Marlbrook Pub). Excellent service, quality and very generous servings.

I have tried this place three times; once to eat in and twice for takeaway. Each time it has left a lot to be desired so it wasn't a case of catching them on an "off night". Staff are surly and the last takeaway I had, a Chicken Biyriani, was truly awful ! Like someone had thrown it up rather than cooked it....
