What a lovely old building! Right by the river. A traditional cafe with good food!

The 1699 restaurant at The Chester Townhouse is undoubtedly a hidden gem. The food is imaginative and creative, the staff are attentive and helpful, and the atmosphere is warm, welcoming and relaxing. The toilets are absolutely stunning and brilliantly clean too. The venue is simply outstanding in every respect.

Had dinner here with friends on Saturday night. What a lovely evening. Pre dinner drinks in the Secret Garden. Then a fabulous meal. Food was delicious. All the staff were great and super friendly. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

A lovely Birthday meal on 19th June. Our waitress, Suzy, was welcoming and pleasant throughout. The menu was not extensive, however, it was varied enough to provide a choice of starters and mains to suit our preferences. Service was professional without being stuffy and presentation was really good We chose coquilles St Jacques which were very tasty and well flavoured followed by 1 lamb and 1 pork both of which were very tender and had interesting textures - my only negative would be that the pork dish would benefit from a little potato or extra veg in addition to the spinach. All the food was well seasoned and piping hot. We enjoyed a bottle of wine which was a touch expensive considering the quality but possibly the norm for a restaurant in Chester and neither had room for a dessert.

A beautiful venue with courteous and efficient staff serving quality and tasty food

Fist time here for Sunday Lunch with the family and 1 dog. Lovely food and setting. Will be returning again soon.

Fabulous place nice oldy worldy settings easy for town excellent food and very nice staff . Chelsea made our stay special really helpful with our luggage and everything
