Another fabulous experience at The Townhouse in Chester. Our afternoon tea was excellent , great choice of food , attentive staff and all within a beautifully festive atmosphere. So lovely to be welcomed by the open fire and a glass of fizz , the perfect way to start off the Christmas celebrations. Well done Townhouse we shall certainly all back !

We went for an afternoon tea for two and were extremely impressed with the food and the service. The member of staff who looked after us was lovely and really looked after us. The food was delicious, of a high standard and there was plenty of choice. We ended up taking some of the food home because we couldn’t manage to eat all the sandwiches, scones and cakes. Excellent value for money, attractive surroundings too. Having had afternoon teas in other local venues I would definitely recommend as one of the best, certainly the best value for money.

Afternoon tea with bottomless prosecco for 4 of us and it was superb! We got a bottle brought to us on arrival which was great as we didn’t need to ask for it, the service was perfect, the food was amazing & nothing was too much trouble! One of the best afternoon teas we’ve had and would highly recommend! Thank you for a great afternoon! :-)

We took advantage of Travelzoo and together with my sister in law four of us had a wonderful experience during the summer eating a first class three course meal outside in the small courtyard. Not only was the food comparable with the best in Chester, but the service was superb as well. Having had such a good experience we decided to buy some more Travelzoo vouchers as my brother in law was coming to stay and wanted to take us all out for a meal at his expense. Well, sadly the food was nothing like the standard we had experienced before, whilst the service was still first class as were the surroundings, the chef/cook must not have been the same one we had been lucky enough to have the first time, the food was a real disappointment. A few weeks later we used up our last voucher and as we were taking a very dear old friend, warned her not to expect too much, again the experience was not like our first visit when it came to the food, although the service was just as good. It is so sad I cannot give this lovely property a first class rating, but, if you rely on getting a good chef and they let you down, no amount of first class interior design and pleasant front of house can make up for a poor meal. If the staff let you down, perhaps it would be better to have a very simple menu, which only uses first class ingredients on the lines of roast ham or roast chicken served in brioche buns, fish and chips and burgers, or really, really good salads, something which can be assembled by anyone provided they have a picture in front of them, not fine dining, but good quality easy to prepare food, asking how you like your steak, then taking no notice, offering obviously different cuts than the ones ordered of poor quality steak could be avoided and at least the food should be edible and enjoyable.

Afternoon tea for a birthday gift. Was really nice, bottomless Prosecco and we were given a bottle straight away which was nice as meant we didn’t have to keep asking! Nice greeting and we were early but that wasn’t a problem. Good service throughout and relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely visit again

No experience at all report other Booked on your Website the morning of the booking date, we turned up at 12:55 for the 1pm booking only to be told by the staff that they hadn't seen a booking and that they had NO chief. We had a lovely meal birthday meal as always at Lavatoria.

We did the bottomless afternoon tea for my Aunts 70th and have to say we had a lovely afternoon. The venue the staff and the food were lovely. We are looking to going again very soon.

I was given a Travelzoo meal for my birthday, we came on Wednesday for it , and was very pleased with the service and the food, so if in Chester again we will be coming to the town house again

My husband and I have been a few times and always had excellent food and service. We had a Travelzoo voucher for a 3 course meal for two so booked for Saturday 14th of September. The food was excellent and the service was great until the desserts. I ordered the sticky toffee pudding and was enjoying it when I felt a hair in my mouth!!! I informed the waitress who promptly said “well it’s not mine but I’ll tell the chef”. I was totally disgusted and disappointed as no-one came near us to apologize or offer any form of explanation. We decided to leave and asked for the bill at the bar. One waitress asked was everything good with our meal and I said “well to be honest no!!” And told her about the hair in my food!!! She said “Oh was that you....I thought it was another couple!!!”. I also told her we were offered no apology or explanation and she said we could come another time and use the voucher again to which we replied that we couldn’t as we were away until the end of September and the voucher had to be used by the end of September. The chef then said we could come for Sunday lunch which we couldn’t make either. So his answer was to walk away!! I explained we still hadn’t had any form of apology to which she then offered her apologies and offered to pay for our drinks we had with our meal!!! Firstly the apology had to be asked for instead of offered and the price of 4 drinks didn’t cut it with me as another diner behind us complained about the service and food and was offered 50% off his meal!!! To find a hair in food absolutely makes me sick and instead of looking forward to a great night out I felt so sick both my husband and myself just ended up getting a taxi home!!!! Totally disgusting and disappointed with the whole experience!!!!!

Love it!

As a group of six ladies celebrating a friend's 50th, we dined at 1699 Brasserie on the evening of Friday 6th September. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, even though we'd had a last minute change to our numbers. The food, especially the mains, were delicious and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The staff had gone to the trouble of decorating our table and we had a lovely breakfast there the following morning.

We recently held a baby shower here & from the moment we arrived the staff were friendly & couldn’t do enough for us (special shout out to Becky!) I would highly recommend this place for any occasion, they table was fully decorated before we even got there & the staff even put our decorations up for us! Lovely atmosphere & will definitely be coming back!
