Hungry Lady

First time back since the refurb. Very impressed .Alas the set menu was a real disappointment. My starter of goats cheese and beetroot was so miserly I had finished before my hubby had seasoned his soup .Two teaspoon sized pieces of cheese and one less than an inch sized piece of pear. The rest was squiggles of sauce on the plate. His soup was okay but had one long stringy bit of ham in it ,which he couldn't cut .The turkey dinner main was okay, the veg was nicely cooked and hot 2 sprouts each ,the stuffing was one tiny slice,no chipolatas but nice gravy.Didn't dare risk the sweet course but the coffee was very good. Hubby likes his red wine but I was driving ,so asked for a small glass of white, not dry.It is the first time ever I have sent back wine,it was sour.It was changed, with not much said and I enjoyed the replacement. Sorry but we won't be back ,had to have sweet and cheese course at home .

The Dressers Arms is looking very nice after its refurbishment following a fire. Still retained some character whilst modernised. Fylde Rugby club Vandals team pop in here on the way back from certain away games. The landlord kindly lays on free chip butties for us. Fine beer and the food looked good in the restaurant.

I recently visited the Lark Hill Restaurant with a party of 6. The restaurant is stylish, elegant and yet not off putting or ostentatious. There's a balcony which gives a great view of the 9 hole golf course and beautiful countryside beyond. The welcome from the staff is warm and solicitous and the bar has a nice selection of bottled beers. Also, there's a guest real ale on draft as well as the usual quality draft lagers.Being vegetarian, I started with cauliflower soup. It was perfectly seasoned and exquisitely balanced. I'm no cook, but I could almost taste the skill. The next course, mushroom risotto, was perfect. All of us had a great dining experience and continued enjoying the convivial atmosphere over a leisurely coffee. Before and during the meal, our satisfaction was ensured by the friendly, diligent waitresses.Overall, a memorable evening was had by all of us and I'm looking forward to our next visit.

Poor, was told how good this place was meant to be, very disappointed indeed. They seemed to be over booked and unable to cope with food orders. When asked about our table the seating hostess seemed a tad rude, saying how she had others to sit and attitude was off

My husband retired this week and his boss took us out for lunch here. We really enjoyed the meal, I had the delicious steak and ale pie, my husband had the sirloin steak and his boss had the gammon. We all really enjoyed the meal and my husband and I will be making this our restaurant of choice from now on.

Extremely disappointing! Booked on Saturday 17th Jan 2015 for 8pm and was told if we arrived at 7:30pm we would almost certainly be able to eat in the restaurant. Arrived at 7:20pm only to be told by the barman that we were the 4th party who had booked but whose names had not been put on the reservation list. We were advised that we could have a table in an hour. Very poor service as all the young waitress could say was.... "We're sorry".No Manager to be seen or heard....needless to say we won't be returning!

Was going to go to Langs of Longton, priced there menu against the fat bull menu needless to say Fat Bull was alot cheaper when paying for four people to dine on similar products ie fillet steak with a sauce chips and vegetables.. Place was busy service was Ok, will be going back often only downer was we ordered Pancetta with smoked cheese as a accompaniment to one of the main courses, once main courses served it did not arrive,we asked for it 3 times still not brought to the table, low and behold it was on the bill, when we questioned why we were told because we ordered it, told it did not arrive was informed sorry we are busy if you had reminded a member of staff it would have been forth coming (bang head on wall moment). Still bloody good grub though place is not posh or pretentious like some restaurants around the North West

A party of five of us including my wife and our two grownup kids plus one of their partners dined off the lunch time set menu to celebrate my wife's birthday and our anniversary .The choice of courses were impressive, I went for the twice baked smoked fish soufflé , this came with a mustard sauce , it was wonderfully flavoursome and set me up nicely for my main course of slow cooked pork belly , this arrived served on top of the best Dauphinoise potatoes have ever tasted accompanied with braised red cabbage and seasonal veg ,The pork was as succulent as you would find anywhere , again a massive thumbs up . I rounded things off with a superbly made autumn fruit jam roly poly and custard . The other party members had a mixture of Pate , soup and black and white pudding Roulade for starters followed by one fish and chips and three slow braised shin of beef . All rounded off by homemade cheesecake , sticky toffee pudding and a interestingly named Chorley rocky road . Again no body could find fault with any element of their meals . the service was attentive and polite ., the price was an incredible £14.95 for three courses. This is the best value for money and quality you will find for miles around.

Well we live very locally to the renamed Fat Bull here in Wheelton and gave it the best part of a month to get up an running properly before we gave it a try but tonight we decided we would walk down and have a look. What a great welcome from the staff and a great reasonably priced meal to boot. We had a shared spicy nacho starter, my wife the burger and myself the steak and ale pie. All were a great success. In fact I had to finish a quarter of the burger as it was so filling. By time we left almost every table was full and it was a Wednesday night. I would have loved cask bitter rather keg but that is just a minor thought. We will certainly be back and I can now say we have a great local establishment that is not over priced as in its past guise it certainly was. In fact I will be looking to take family quite soon, probably stick to quieter weekday than weekend as the building is not the biggest but if service and food is as good next time then they are on to a winner if they can keep up the standard. Well done.

My husband and I visited The Fat Bull Sunday. What a really pleasant experience. Being a decent cook myself it was a lovely treat to sit and enjoy a couple of glasses of wine followed by an excellent meal. We got a really good feel for the place within 5 mins of arriving. The assistant manager was so relaxed and confident in herself we knew the food was going to be great as she promoted several dishes. She was not wrong! Every member of the team was really friendly and looked like they were happy to be there unlike some places you visit. Cannot wait to go again in fact we are going with friends this Sunday. I have told them they won't be disappointed.

Visited with my wife one week after opening-day of this very cute, welcoming and atmospheric restaurant. Superb menu choice with great-value lunch list. High quality food and friendly attentive service. Very tasty steak and ale pie with lovely thin pastry lid and real chips! Equally satisfying mussels main dish. Yummy dessert - basil pannacotta with champagne-marinated strawberries - simply the best! Overall, wonderful value for money with a very reasonably priced wine-list. Don't delay in visiting this little gem!

Been to the Field Fare twice in two months. We were a party of six everyone aside the food was excellent and tasty. We were never kept waiting between courses thanks to the great service of "Becky B". Many thanks we will be calling again.

The wife and I made a special journey to Alghero. It's a destination restaurant just off the first junction of the M65 and near the M61, which makes it very easy to get to. Bar the road, outside its situated in the country with nice views over the countryside from their outside terrace or conservatory. We had a drink in the bar on arrival and then were escorted to our table in the conservatory by a friendly waiter. Starters were an excellent meat balls and a prawn cocktail, both very tasty and well presented. Mains were a cannelloni and seafood linguine. The cannelloni was the best I can remember having and the wife was impressed with hers too. Wines by the glass were good as was the value. We will definitely return, maybe on a nice summer evening to enjoy the terrace.

Two for one deal, mine was in edible (beef in wine)so tough I could have soled my shoes. The bar-manager very kindly did not charge me!!!! Oh yes that's right it was a two for one anyway, who lost out? That will be me,then paid the £10 odd for my husbands but I had no dinner so paid anyway. Definitely feel the service, quality of food is poor.

Just got in from the Zalzala after another excellent meal. We have been to many Indian restaurants in the Chorley/ Bolton area but the food and service are in our opinion the best of them all. The staff are charming and friendly and make you very welcome
