Veg curry was OK, but no other options available for vegetables on any of the main dishes or sides. Burger was overcooked, but chips were nice. Service was poor overall: young staff were inexperienced and unable to cope with simple tasks. There was only one experienced member of staff and she was unable to cope with the busy bar and restaurant on a Saturday lunchtime.

Our last night in the Lakes was spent at a quiet table in our favourite restaurant. Alas we were not at all well. However, the food, as usual, was superb. We both ordered Fillet of Beef Stroganoff, a rich satisfying plate with tender beef, a deep sauce and plump slices of mushrooms, and a bowl of delicate basmati rice all playing rather well together. The well toasted garlic bread was perfectly done and perfect for mopping up. Alas, as I said , we were not at all well and couldn't finish, so the waiter very kindly took our plates, only to return with four plastic containers full of this wonderful food. I heated it up upon our return the following evening and I'm glad to say none of the magic was lost. We always feel looked after and well fed at Lewis's. The ambience, the service, the food all conspire to make it a rare enjoyable evening.

2 of us had the loveliest afternoon in here. The staff were fabulous and so attentive, the food was beautiful and the cocktails were next level. Everything from start to finish was fantastic and look forward to a return visit. Highly recommend this restaurant. Thank you xxx

Visited with friends from Newcastle, they said that the lasagne and pizza they had were the best they'd had in a long time, our risotto and tagliatelle were delicious. Staff are attentive but not overbearing, prices are excellent value for money and finally the ambiance is just right. Well done everyone

This was our second visit and it won’t be the last. We had the guinea fowl from the specialist board and it was absolutely delicious. The service and atmosphere are first class and I would highly recommend visiting.

We're very fortunate to have discovered Lewis's. The food is second to none. The wine always a surprise. The service par excellence. It's a delightful restaurant, quiet and unassuming. One always feels looked after, yet left alone to enjoy the evening. That subtle balance is so important. We consider our visits to Grasmere incomplete without a table at Lewis's.

Lewis's Bistro is a gem in Grasmere. The food is excellent - refined, generous cooking, and a good wine list. The staff are caring and attentive and the whole ambience is very welcoming.

We had Sunday lunch as a family of 4. The menu choice for a Sunday was great no need to just have a roast! Service was good. Food was tasty. I found it pretty expensive though £9.99 for a kids meal no drink included. I asked for a smaller coke for my son and they charged still for 1/2 pint which was £3! For a tiny beaker of coke! The prices on the receipt didn’t match the menu for the roast so that was confusing too. I thought paying nearly £100 for a one course meal and 1 drink each for 3 adults and 1 child meal was pretty steep but maybe it was because of where we were just outside the Lake District.

Nice atmosphere, great service and really good food. Could not have asked for anything better. First impression was it’s a bit on the pricey side but upon seeing the portion sizes, good value. Would definitely recommend if you’re in the area

Nice atmosphere, staff friendly & helpful! Meals tasty & good portion sizes! Have visited several times over latter years - one of our favourite eateries! Doggy friendly too!

We had a lovely time at the Horse and Farrier. The staff were intentive to our needs, and we really enjoyed our Sunday lunch. Even when the pub got busy you could see how hard the staff were working, to make everyone's experience enjoyable. I know from personal experience how difficult it is to work in a restaurants and how exhausting it can be for the staff to work in these conditions. The owner and manager should be really proud of their team. You could see the younger members of the team being guided by the experienced staff and a real family dynamic was being created. This pub has a great future, its is a gem worth visiting to feel apart of their special family. In this day and age that in its self is worth its weight in gold. See you all soon. Take care.
