White Hart Inn – ExeterA new experience not to be missed.
Ashburton Arms – KingsbridgeBravo for simplicity. Out with the fancy stuff and in with the real stuff. Plenty of understanding of what's good and how to cook it here. Difficult to choose but choose we did and wolfed down some brilliant Scallops with Bacon, Oysters, Gurnard (with Carpetbagger Sauce no less) and Salmon with a Tandoori crust. Fab. Tarte au Citron completed a lovely Autumn supper. Same goes for the well-chosen wines at modest mark-ups. Get down there!
Bistro One – PlymouthI am a committed Bistro One regular. This has got to be THE place in town for good fresh local produce. Always friendly, always a smile and always the best food and wine, lunch or dinner. A happy refuge from a world full of mediocrity.
Bistro One – PlymouthWent here for a meal last fri and even though they were down on staff we were treated very well didn't wait long either lovely meal and beautiful 16th C building adapted tastefully.
Himalayan Spice – PlymouthFantastic pub with a great atmosphere, friendly locals and a separate restaurant with an extensive home cooked menu. Amazing food at very affordable prices. They are very child friendly and attentive too - highly recommended
Green Dragon The – TorringtonThis is a bizarre place - very old pub set down behind a reasonable modern housing burb. Food is nice, staff are friendly and there is a garden which is great to eat outside whilst distracting the kids! Good place to go for family lunch - not my first choice for a romantic meal though.
Court Farm Inn – Newton AbbotThis restaurant is always busy, occasionally you are lucky to get a table - that in itself says something. We discovered Lanterns thanks to Plymouthian friends, and am delighted to say we've returned many times since. Good food at a good price, with friendly staff serving as fast as chefs can cook - can't ask for more.
Lanterns Kebab and Steak House – PlymouthI have eaten at many Chinese and Cantonese restaurants around the world including China, but this has to be the best. Beautiful food which is freshly prepared, generous portions and a good choice of wine including a wonderful champagne called Great Western which was excellent value and I have to say on a par (if not better than) Moet. The hostess is charming and welcoming, and always remembers her returning guests. Loads of parking, in a town where you cant find any, and just out of the centre of town, just a short walk away. I cant recommend this restaurant enough, the crispy duck is to die for. Enjoy!
Yum Sing Cantonese Restaurant – TorquayDiane is a wonderful host as well as an excellent chef. Phil adds that little extra something that is hard to beat. Our evening here was the perfect end to our week in Chulmleigh. Mister Michael Winner, please take note.
Frenchs of Chulmleigh – ChulmleighBest restaurant in Plymouth!
Village Restaurant The – PlymouthSo glad we found this restaurant for lunch on a Saturday. The staff were great and the food was fantastic. As a veggie, Chinese food can be a little uninspiring but not here. I had the most delicious pepper mushrooms followed by Singapore noodles. Please please open in West Cornwall!
Fullam Chinese Restaurant – BarnstapleOverall the food at the Clinton Arms is good, but its very over priced and they lack attention. The childs burger they served was still raw in the middle, and when we came to pay the bill and questioned them about this they asked 'did the child eat it' before taking it off the bill. I would recommend the Green Dragon in Langtree, or the White Hart Inn in Bideford for an excellent affordable family meal with service.
Clinton Arms – Torringtonexcellent staff and a wide range on the menu
Bank Bistro 62 – BarnstapleWagamamas... I love it!
Wagamama – ExeterThe Church House Inn at Stokenham (as opposed to similar named pub in Churchstow) is a great find. There is a French sous-chef and his influence on the menu is clear. Imaginative, innovative dishes - e.g. Tartiflette from the Haute Savoie region of France, a delicious pepper/couscous/goat's cheese main salad - at reasonable prices. A delightful garden looking onto a meadow with sheep and very helpful staff. Long may the French chef remain in place!
Church House Inn – Kingsbridgefor good British grub, Trotters cafe is a must. very extensive menu. Large meals (not for the faint hearted). children made more than welcome. not for those looking to eat in style, but the owners have lots of freshly cooked meals all homemade. special oap deals. every on catered for.
Trotters Restaurant – SeatonThe home cooked food we all had was excellent to a high standard, with a good choice to choose from. Service was very good and very accommodating, we recommend this pub for everyone we will be back again.
The Lamb Inn – ExeterSunday Menu: 2 courses, £31; 3 courses, £39.50.
