Quite simply the best Indian restaurant in the Northwest.
Khandoker – DidsburyVERY DISSAPOINTED! I attended Sanuk on 28/06/08 for my girlfriends birthday. There were 6 persons in our party and the restaurant all be it small was busy. To begin with i had to ask several times for the staff to turn the air con off as it was on full blast on my neck. We waited around 30 minutes before our order was taken which gave me long enough to look at the menu, although 30 seconds would have done, unless ur a fish lover this is not the restaurant for you! There are only 2 starters which does not contain sea food. After the starter we were given a desert menu and our table was tidied away, that was until we pointed out we had not had our main course. Staff very friendly but given the fact the restaurant was packed out there were only 2 waitress's and the manager. Main course was on the small side, and was hardly the tastiest meal i have had. More effort went in to decorating the plate with actual flowers.....yes actual flowers tulips, roses.....after 2 hrs we were ready for the bill which nearly knocked me off my chair £190 for 6 persons with a couple of drinks (some soft drinks). I wouldnt have minded if the food was top notch but i was very disappointed. Much nicer to go to a local chinese/thai take away. People reading this may think another bitter customer displaying his anger.....your right however this is the first time i have ever made a review about anything let alone a restaurant. I can accept that the staff were workin hard and the restaurant was busy....however it was a saturday night at 7pm if they cant cope with the demand on a saturday evening then there in the wrong job. Do not go here for a 'quick' bite to eat or if you have any taste buds.....much nicer places to go in didsbury than Sanuk.
Swadesh – DidsburyWe went to Jem & I for the first time on Saturday and thought the staff, atmosphere, music and food were absolutely fantastic we would recommend to anyone who loves delicious food. we will be going back and it's now in our top 5 of favourite restaurants. The staff were very friendly and efficient.
Jem and I Bar and Grill – DidsburyExcellent food very rich and filling. My husband is a non vegetarian and really enjoyed his bangers and mash with chips and I chose a spinach and beetroot dish which was ab delicious. A bit pricey but definitely recommend this restaurant for a special occasion.
Greens – DidsburyWow!! Amazing food at an amazing. This is now our new favourite restaurant in Didsbury. 2 courses of this quality for £15?? Fantastic - you won't be disappointed.
Bistro West 156 – DidsburyWe dined here on a busy Thursday night. The food was great - very tasty, well cooked and a reasonable price for what you got at c £6 for a starter and £15 for a main course. However we found the service poor as the restaurant was packed and there were only 3 serving staff. Whilst they weren't rude they were very abrupt when taking orders and bringing out food and catching their eye to order more drinks or get the bill was impossible. The other issue we had was that as the restaurant is so popular they have squeezed in too many tables and as such you are very close to neighbouring tables and can hear everything they say, fine if you are in a big party but prob not ideal for a romantic meal for 2. So good food but I wouldn't rush back as I think there are other good places to eat.
Lime Tree – DidsburyIf you are part of a vegetarian/non-vegetarian couple then Greens is perfect; high quality food which genuinely satisfies all diners. I have been on a number of occasions and have always been satisfied, a very attractive evening out. Minor points to consider include: poor parking facilities (cars crammed on nearby streets and no provisional parking) - a noisy ambience, although the lighting and decor is nice, and also the food can be rich if you are sensitive to foods of this nature.
Greens – Didsburyoh my goodness - the BEST meal I have ever eaten in Manchester, bar none. Went having been intrigued by Simon Rimmer's laid back cooking on TV. He was there, came out to say hello and cooked brilliantly. I'm not a vegetarian, but this makes the meat/no meat thing irrelevant. great flavours, lovely presentation. Go, go, go
Greens – DidsburyDisappointing for those of us interested in world cuisine - asking the waiters or even Mr Khandoker himself gained us no further detail! We felt crammed into the restaurant (too many tables)& had the feeling that the waiting staff were doing their best & were probably being paid a pittance for their efforts. When the bill came we noticed that there was an extra addition of naan breads which we had not received, despite reminders, & when questioned, Mr Khandoker, with absolute glee, informed us that we had, nevertheless been undercharged by £10 ^ added this onto our bill! There was a nasty after-taste to our experience - one of cattle / herding us in & out / squashing us in etc all for money-grabbing reasons. Mediocre food, impersonal service & very nasty owner! Curry for the masses. Will never go back!
Khandoker – DidsburyI've been to the Great Kathmandu a few times before and it's always been ok - better than Rusholme but not amazing. However I went tonight and was really disappointed. The service was appalling - we didn't even get an apology when the waiter spilled wax all over our clothes. Also the food was a real let down - it appeared within about two minutes of ordering and wasn't very nice at all. I don't know if there's been a change in management/kitchen staff etc but I won't be going back again...
Great Kathmandu – DidsburyI have eaten at the the Woodstock twice. Once before and after the recent refurb and both times have been disappointed. We ordered two burgers with chips and horseradish sauce, and a sausage bap with onion rings. The food took a long time to arrive and was not worth the money at all. The salad on all 3 was old and wilted , the horseradish sauce was not horseradish, appeared to be mayonnaise with chopped up garlic and onion. The portions of chips were small, the bread buns of all 3 were dry and the onion rings were soggy. Nice for a drink but don't go for food.
Woodstock, The – DidsburyMy friend and had the great misfortune of visiting The Didsbury last night. Without a doubt it was the worst pub meal i have ever attempted to eat. I might not be a Jamie Oliver or Delia Smith but even i can tell the difference between "smash" and fresh potato, despite the managers insistance to the contrary. The meal remained un eaten mainly due to the meat being unchewable, the bubble and squeak looked liked mashed carrot and "smash" (no cabbage in sight)and everything was drowned in vinegar. A refund or apology?? absolutely not just a look of annoyance at our audacity to actually complain. A venue which most i will most definetly never visit again!
Didsbury, The – DidsburyAbsolutely Awful. Having heard good things about this place we decided to go for some dinner on the way into town for a night out. Really strange menu comprising student favourites alongside more sophisticated dishes costing considerably more that much better alternatives in the city centre. In the end we opted for Chilli Nachos x2. At £7 a throw we expected great things but what we actually got was a luke warm bowl of second rate chilli with a pile of cheap, overly salty, broken tortilla chips (probably from Netto or similar). They need to have a look at what you get in establshments such as Kro or Chiquitos for less money. While these things can happen it says something about the quality of the kitchen staff that something prepared with so little care and attention even made it out of the door. Its also worth mentioning that the table next door sent theirs back because it was cold. Service was also appalling! Avoid like the plague.
Saints Bar and Kitchen – DidsburyA brilliant mother's day treat! Obviously very busy but the food and service were excellent. All the staff worked very hard to ensure satisfaction and nothing was too much trouble for our party of 13. Look forward to our next visit.
Jem and I Bar and Grill – DidsburyAfter reading positive reviews on this site, we were extremely disappointed by our first experience of Laughing Buddah last night. The starter, hot and sour soup (£5), was far too thick with the consistency of sweet and sour sauce. It contained shrimp, rather than king prawns as described on the menu. My main course, Kung Po, was mediocre, as one might expect from any Chinese take away. My partner ordered a curry dish, which was also disappointing. Although the portion sizes were generous, this restaurant is very overpriced in light of the substandard quality of the food! The menu was confusing with far too much on offer, Gordon Ramsey would not be happy! Spend your money elsewhere, like Fuzion in Fallowfield - great and original food!
Laughing Buddha – DidsburyWe had our Christmas meal here and the food was wonderful. parking is a bit of a pain, but that's soon forgotten as the restaurant is very small but cosy and the staff are very helpful. price was good and quality of the meal was great, i loved the menu and i would definitely go back again for another special occasion.
Azzurro Restaurant – DidsburyDO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT - ABSOLUTELY AWFUL The food was tasteless sludge. Service lazy and poor - order taken was incorrect and the 'correct' dish served amazingly quickly. Not sure if the correct dish was actually served as tasteless, oily and unidentifiable. Comments about the quality of the food met with a disinterested smile and nod. Bill delivered to the table without being requested. Not a pleasant meal.
Sangam 2 – Didsbury25/01/08 Just had a wonderful lunch on my first visit to Jem and I. Service was excellent, food was excellent and very good value for money
