After waiting 45mins starters mushrooms on soda bread arrived we found the soda bread burnt asked for mint sauce my partner did eat the start as so hungry. Then 20 mins later lunch arrived, when looking at the plate both meals where swimming in gravy?? I told the waitress i do not like gravy she replied you never said, I replied normally the meals comes with a gravy boat?? So you can add the gravy to your taste?? The waitress explained that there was 2 private parties , I replied that’s not our problem , you should have stopped the individual bookings as you could not cope. The bill arrived we were charged for the staters , when I said the bread was burnt she replied you ate it ??? Yes as we were so hungry, my partner belongs to local golf club , I am afraid we will be giving our honest review .
The Ship Gidea Park – RomfordPeaceful atmosphere with attentive friendly service. There is a varied menu and our choices were cooked and presented perfectly. We will certainly be going again and fully recommend this restaurant.
The Bakers Arms – IngatestoneA lovely dog friendly pub serving great food with efficient and helpful staff
The Owl – LoughtonWe visited for Sunday lunch to celebrate a birthday, having had a fantastic meal on a previous occasion. Unfortunately, this time was a completely different experience. We were a party of eight and from the outset it was clear that the service wasn’t up to the same standard. Our drinks order arrived incomplete, and we waited a long time before our food order was even taken. The young member of staff serving us seemed unsure of what they needed to do and wasn’t being supported by more experienced team members. We ordered starters for three of us and we all ordered main courses. After another long wait the food finally arrived, however it was not the starters that we’d ordered, but the main courses being brought to us without any mention of the starters. When we queried it, the staff appeared confused but took the mains back to the kitchen. The main courses were then brought immediately back out to us as they had been told by the kitchen that they didn’t have space to keep the mains hot. We then reiterated the point that we wanted our starters before our mains, rather than afterwards or together, and asked to speak to a manager. The manager came to our table holding the starters and said that our options were to either cancel the order of the starters and go straight to mains, or have both courses together. This obviously wasn’t what we expected when we booked a table for Sunday lunch or what we wanted! She eventually agreed to take the mains back to the kitchen. She also said that the waiting staff were being trained, although no-one appeared to be supervising their ‘training’. Finally we were ready for the main course, but when it arrived the food was served cold on cold plates, however, the children's food was served piping hot on plates that were too hot to touch. The food was then sent back to the kitchen again (some meals were sent back twice as were re-served to us still cold) and was obviously microwaved to bring it up to temperature. A microwaved roast dinner is not something we’d expect at this level of restaurant. The staff then avoided us until we asked for the bill, when we were told, as a form of compensation for the very poor service, they would not charge us for the drinks - three soft drinks and a glass of wine! We’re all local and eat out regularly, and unfortunately, this was one of the most disappointing meals and overall experiences we've had in a long time. We’ve had a great experience here before, which made this visit all the more disappointing. Based on this most recent experience, we would not feel comfortable recommending the restaurant to others (quite the opposite in fact), and we’d be very reluctant to return ourselves. Given the extent of the issues with both food and service, we would have expected a more meaningful gesture of goodwill. We know this place is capable of better, but this visit fell far short of the standard expected.
The Dukes Head – Bishops StortfordFirst time visiting Stoked, although we have driven past on numerous occasions and seen it always busy. Food and cocktails were amazing and lots of choice and our waitress was so attentive. Lovely decor inside , constant flow of customers and a super friendly vibe, would highly recommend ⭐ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Stoked Vegan BBQ – SouthendBooked the table for 13:00 but wasn’t taken to the table until 13:15 due to only having one person dealing with a queue of people in front of us. Took 20 minutes for our drinks and food order to be taken and the food arrived at 14:11. I appreciate the food is cooked to order but I don’t think having to wait over 80 minutes from the time we should have been seated is great. On the upside, the food was delicious and the serving staff apologised for the wait.

The Barn Garden Centre Cafe – ColchesterDeliciously tasty and fresh food! And so nice not to have the usual garden centre type food but top quality interesting meals served to a high standard. The service was very good too, friendly, quick and nothing too much trouble - thank you, I know we’ll be back! :-))
The Barn Garden Centre Cafe – ColchesterAlways nice food here. Sunday roast is nice. Could put more stuffing on plate without having to ask for extra and choice of meat could be bigger. Beef and turkey available. Pork and chicken would be nice. Otherwise, lovely roast
The Ship Gidea Park – RomfordAmazing place with tasty food and outstanding decor. Me and my partner make a special trip here as often as we can for a few reasons. 1. The food choice especially allergy and dietary needs that are catered for. 2. It’s amazing value. 3. Most importantly my partner is American so it gives him the taste of home. He says the mac and cheese is just like his mum’s! Great atmosphere, thank you!
