Great restaurant very accommodating to us

A present for my son who is heading off travelling… 5 Stars! The food, service and atmosphere… the best you could ask for. We had the tasting menu… every course lovely…a very enjoyable evening.

We had an enjoyable evening here last week, as a farewell dinner for my brother returning to Australia. Food was very good, and as I'm a small eater, they are always happy to accommodate my smaller portion request. Service and pricing was reasonable and we'll look forward to returning before too long - probably for a birthday breakfast!

The Barn is the only place in Colchester that has been consistent in it's excellent food. It's never let us down. The Sunday roasts are exquisite. Worth every penny. It's a proper roast with vegetables that have herbs and seasoning.... We are regulars and when we have visitors that is where we take them. Breakfasts are excellent. Packed with good quality ingredients and flavour. Guarantee a good breakfast, lunch or Sunday roast.

Visited on 15/01/24 Reception need training Didn’t even ask whether I have booked or not. Receptionists were welcomed rudely When I just open the door and came in the person was going upstairs and told to stay there. Later when I was waiting in que But they allowed people who came in with money was allowed. Later they told that payment machine not working and just asked to go up and pay (not guided.) Indian choices were less one side counter was closed. Almost dishes were empty( Indian side) Service team was good helping and plates were cleared on time. A lovely visit for Sunday morning breakfast, staff are always very attentive and friendly, food is well presented and very tasty. Only a minor point is that the restaurant is often on the chillier side but otherwise a lovely visit again.

Not even vegan but just moved to the area thought the place looked great. Food is delicious and the staff are really friendly. Will be back for sure!

Booking system very easy. Accommodated the needs of my elderly mother. Breakfast menu was very extensive. Food was outstanding along with service. Staff are extremely helpful and attentive

Exceptional food as per usual good portion sizes and well worth a visit

The food was nice although the prawn cocktail was in-fact crayfish, the waiters could have been a bit happier and more receptive upon arrival.

My husband and I are meat eaters but like to explore other avenues regarding food and thought we would try stoked as we love the food in the oak tree. The service was great, great ambiance, cosy & great Music. I loved my mushroom starter but my husband was slightly underwhelmed with his taco starter as they were tiny and he only got two, three would have been better. The main was ok but wouldn’t have it again. The guy serving us made us an old fashioned cocktail with popcorn syrup in it, it was bloody delicious. Over all a great experience but you have to go outside & down an alley to use the toulet

Always really good food, lovely staff. We had the six course taster menu and would thoroughly recommend. We were, however, really cold as we weren't in direct line with the fire.

Had lunch again yesterday and the food was delicious - as usual ! Fish goujon sandwich - fish was hot and really good. Thanks again!

We went to celebrate our wedding anniversary on 8th January 2024 and it was nice and clean. Food was good service was also good

Beautifully cooked veggies breakfasts when we were in yesterday and my daughters scrambled egg and smoked salmon looked great too . Quality here is always consistent and the eggs used are lovely . Best poached eggs around . Service as usual was really excellent . We really enjoy coming here .
