The Barn Garden Centre Cafe – Colchester4 of us booked the Gala NYE Dinner. We had a very enjoyable evening - canapé + 6 course taster menu. The food was excellent - very unusual + creative dishes . We opted to pay more for the wine pairing selection . The food/wine pairing was excellent value served by pleasant attentive waiting staff. The atmosphere was great with party hats + face/moustache masks on our table to get us in the mood for the disco with midnight serving of Prosecco.

Spoon World Buffet and Bar – BasildonStoked is always and will always be one of my favourite vegan restaurants in the local area. The time and effort put into the restaurants decor, vibe, food and service is second to none. There’s also something for everyone if you aren’t a fan of the “meat” style meals. I personally loveeeee their seitan and can never go wrong with the og chick’n slider. The drinks are great too with so many alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. The staff are always so wonderful too. The menu is small but it means that every item has had a lot of time spent on it!

The Blue Anchor – ColchesterThis is the third time we have attended the Blue Anchor for a 6 course gala dinner on NYE. It’s always a fantastic evening with dancing until 1am to see the new year in after dinner. The food was amazing, the atmosphere friendly, cozy and inviting, service was also excellent. Great value for money too. This has become a regular event for us with family joining us every year because it’s a great night. Thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking to see the new year in, in style. Thank you to the team at the Blue Anchor for a great NY celebration.

Grumpys Diner – SouthendI booked online for the 28th December at 12pm we arrived at 11.45 and it looked closed up, we waited another 5 minutes then got out the car , and the door was locked no lights on why accepted my booking when you are closed......online it states OPEN only date showing closed NEW YEARS DAY have eaten here a few times, but very disappointed in this . Just seen a review where someone had breakfast this day???????...... SO WHY WAS IT CLOSED WHEN WE ARRIVED AT 11.45 WE STAYED UNTIL 12.05 .......Do not understand this

Also, I felt that the staff member who showed us to the table, didn’t really communicate that effectively with us and just pointed to the table and left but perhaps they were having a bad day.
